Mike Campbell Showcases his Fender Custom Shop Heartbreaker | Fender

Музыка

In this exclusive Fender interview, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell showcases his new Limited Edition Fender Custom Shop Heartbreaker, cloned after his longtime Fender Broadcaster.
"With a blindfold test I might not be able to tell the difference - that’s how close it is," said Campbell.
Led by Master Builder Dale Wilson, the Fender Custom Shop Dream Team worked exhaustively to clone Campbell's original Broadcaster. From the nail scratch on the front of the lower horn to the soldering iron burn near the output jack and the chipped nut, the new signature model is visually and sonically comparable to Campbell’s beloved companion.

Mike always seems to get lucky with "getting a real good guitar that day". His 12 string Rickenbacker (on the cover of Damn the Torpedoes) was the next one made after George Harrison's.

Dave G Right... So refugees of war and/or the billions of starving families can help themselves, but dogs cannot. Therefore we should help the dogs. Most of the population of the world living in poverty are in their situation based on circumstances. Lets see how you view this topic when all of a sudden, you and your family become become a victim of circumstance, and become just one of the hundreds of millions of starving families in this world. Still want to help the dogs? Just to clarify, I would help dogs too, IF we could find a way to help humans first. Also, a lot of dogs can and DO help themselves. Look at Mexico. They form packs and roam around looking for scraps. We could help dogs by stopping puppy mills from pumping out ridiculous numbers of puppies. Thats how we can help dogs.

Dave G Umm.. Yes, I agree. (To the relevant point you made, not the assertion of my character - which may or may not be grounded, at least based on what you have read from me. I can see why you'd assume that.) But to the point on hand, your comment seemed to assume or at the very least imply, that I couldn't be bothered to help the needy - human or non-human alike. I have already stated that I would help dogs too, if only we could help people in need first. In other words, any reasonable person needs to prioritize if they are to attempt to make any type of broad difference in anything. You say humans can help themselves, and I agree. So why would we help dogs over the option of first helping other humans? Shouldn't we help our fellow man? Also, I wasn't just being an asshole when I stated a full-proof plan to help dogs. STOP MASS BREEDING THEM. We produce puppies like we produce Advil. People love puppies. But unfortunately, people don't love them once they become dogs. This is a Pre-school problem.

Nice guitar. Nice amp. Nice playing. Nice charity. Sometime it's nice to see the glass half full ... My very first guitar was a 1954 Stratocaster under the Christmas tree in 1963. Beat to hell, fretboard pitted, the nut had three chewing gum wrappers in different slots, ciggy burn on the headstock ... when you've been around a while and you've seen the originals with the real wear, you come to appreciate even the fake stuff ... there's a magic there that exists no where else.

Wow-well the first thing that struck me was how young Mike still looks...which got me to thinking how lucky we are to still have some of these legends around. There are so few left now from that era that I loved, and was so much a part of my youth. Started recording their 1st album in 1975 wow-thats the year I graduated from high school. Just a really cool interview and cool of Fender to remake his guitar so accurately and then give funds to help animals. I only wish I could afford one....although should I ever win the lotto, I would first get Fenders copy of Clapton's Brownie Strat- then I would get one of these custom shop heartbreaker Fenders. The real funny thing is i kept. thinking- wait a minute Fender did not copy Mike's original guitar because his original guitar has a rosewood neck- and the new one has a maple neck.....but then I looked again and realized his first guitars neck was also a maple neck but it was just dirty as hell....LOL thats why Mike said he would not let anyone wash it off. LMAO

Never understood the appeal of buying a pre-'stressed' guitar; total enigma to me. I love that he works to save animal's lives though.

Sam Roney Yeah, I can't relate. Buying new jeans that are already frayed and torn is the other thing that has always confounded me. Just doesn't compute. Thanks though.

mano a mano I can understand copying the electronics. But you have to earn the wear through playing it!

I’m bit ol school, but have to say I little bit get it with the neck, tell you they are pretty close to real ones from 50’s 60’s with that super buttery feel

Can anyone explain the string tree and decal placement? Doesn't look right for a Broadcaster.

What I find amazing about this level of talent and success is that there's so much time and effort spent into duplicating an instrument yet the actual musician and instrument owner seems like he could really care less.

I thought all those early Broadcasters had the narrow spaced 12 fret dot markers? On both his original and replica the neck has the wider 12 fret dot spacing. What you normally see on 53' and up Tele's. Might his be a partscaster?

Decal and string tree are wrong too, as are the ferrules on the back (too straight).

Yup, probably a mid 50's Tele with a Broadcaster decal on it. I have seen photos of the bridge PU and it has staggered pole pieces, not a Broadcaster.
