Mike Brown - Post match interview - Wales v England - World Cup 2015
Very interesting to hear everyone's reaction to this. Let's have a vote, if you think it's acceptable behaviour from Mike then 'thumbs up' or if you think it's unacceptable 'thumbs down'.
Extract from Scrum V broadcast on Sunday 27 Septmber 2015.

Even funnier when you know its being watched back on Scrum V and broadcast only in Wales... Wales love beating England... watching them suffer afterwards is a bonus
Has anyone ever seen this guy smile? Brown has 2 moods: angry, and grumpy
I don't think there is even a question of acceptable or not. Journalists asked for a reaction and they got one. It's an honest response not some talk show.
Its extremely refreshing to see someone not pander to the media. Personally I'm glad to see emotions running high rather than the automaton responses you'd usually get.

Great interview; responds like a fan. We need 15 hearts like this!
I have to say, four years on, this is still one clip which never fails to make me laugh my head off. Only challenged by the expression on Owen Farrell's face during his interview immediately after the Wales-England match, Six Nations 2019 . It seems they can't talk the talk OR walk the walk tee heee
Utterly charming. Such sportsmanship.
In fairness, it must be difficult to do an interview straight after a crushing defeat like that.

After losing by 2 points to a close rival in a pool match? Hardly crushing. How would he handle an interview after losing a knockout match? He'd prob just start growling, and then bite the interviewer in the face and run off into the shadows.

@RythOfTheForest

+MarkOfTzeentch 4 players...you're over exaggerating. England too had a plethora of injuries - Tuilagi, Joseph, Burrell, Vunipola etc. England controlled the game for large periods, but slips in the midfield following the substitutions opened the opportunity for a fantastic Welsh try. Had Robshaw taken the 3 points, it would be a different story. Not crushing in the slightest. An excellent game, second to only Japan-RSA imo

Honestly there is nothing wrong with this, if England get knocked out of the World Cup this will be one of the most devastating English losses ever. Mike Brown is just being honest about how their performance was not good enough to win, just because he didn't talk about how good the Welsh were doesn't mean that he's not being a professional. You can tell by his face to face exchange with Warburton how much this game means to him and as a Rugby fan you should appreciate it and be proud that International players care this much!
I'm a Welshman and will defend him here. He fronted up throughout the whole match, was second contender (in my eyes) for man of the match and his team lost against an already wounded Welsh team. He has every right to show his emotions here
@MNightTomalan

+tom feathers I agree and think it's good to see a player so distraught and inconsolable after a loss like this, it shows genuine passion for the sport and supporters. Not being able to live up to said supporters expectations for whatever reason has clearly devastated him. Much more human than the polished PR face Lancaster craps out every interview. I was that miserable immediately after the result and I wasn't even playing. But of course an Englishman shows emotion and the rest of the rugby world jump on the anglophobic bandwagon and bring out the same old "arrogant" cliche... Thanks for bucking the trend. On another note how fucking good was Biggar? Easily performance of the Tournament so far.

I largely agree Tom. It'll be his last World Cup due to his age. He knows his team are now under huge pressure and the next match could be his last meaningful one at a World Cup. He was completely gutted and he displayed that in his interview. Personally as another Welshman I empathise with him but he doesn't often endear himself to this on the pitch. His massive over reaction at Lydiate's chop tackle in the first half when he went nose to nose with Warburton is one example. Also, to be blunt, his refusal to release the ball around 73 minutes in also led to the penalty that put us 28-25 up so he bore a huge price.
@MNightTomalan

I don't think running the ball back is worthy of criticism. Yes technically he was the offender but the real culprits were the forwards not clearing out quickly enough. Squaring up to two flankers though looked a bit dim, reminded me of Ben Youngs/Etzebeth...
@FeathersT21

Lol I remember the Youngs / Etzebeth scuffle. Kudos for effort there to Youngs
Never met the fella so can't be too harsh on him, but I've never seen the man in a positive light. Arrogant, disrespectful bla bla I could go on. But fair enough here, hardly going to smile like he's happy with it. End of the day, best world cup hosts ever!
There's nothing wrong with this though. It's funny in hindsight, but this is exactly how you'd feel after that loss at home, so if "sportsmanship" means hiding your actual feelings, then sportsmanship just means hypocrisy and falseness by default.
People like to criticise sports personalities these days for their lack of passion. Give the guy a break, he is clearly a highly motivated and sensitive individual......he just came off the field and he's clearly gutted......what do you want? Robots?

The fact that he's emotional shows that he actually gives a shit, as opposed to being a robot which spouts the same nonsense we hear in every post-match interview.

Ah yes Mike Brown, the bastion of integrity that he is
At Paul Reid: The name of the show was, let's all LAUGH at England....
I will let you into a secret folks: he isn't groomed to speak like a politician, nor simon cowell -he is trained in one of the most demanding sport disciplines in the world. He's lived and breathed this game since he was a wee lad, and ok he's a hot head, (get over it) but it's reassuring to know that he's clearly upset and he let it show during an interview, particularly after such a tough game in which his teams dreams were crushed in the last 10 minutes. Applaud the man - he's proven himself to be human. from a Welsh fan.
I'm so chuffed we beat them! But Mike brown is a world class player. It's their World Cup and they're looking at an early exit. I think he's got a right to be pissed off. I get that he didn't want to answer stupid questions that everyone already knew the answers too.

I want to stick up for Mike Brown a bit, he played incredibly well and it's tough to come straight off the field and have everything examined by journalists. I can imagine it's incredibly difficult to maintain composure and articulate your thoughts into a neat soundbite. Having said that however he is a professional and in this situation he's deliberately making the interviewers feel bad. It's a privilege to play for your country and with that privilege comes responsibility. There are ways of articulating emotion without being rude.

I used to play rugby to a fairly high level and the one thing I was dreading was sports journalists doing post match interviews as it's ultimately pointless, no one really cares what's said and this is coming from a Welshman as well, rugby fans like to watch the rugby we don't give a fuck about post or pre match interviews they are redundant

Leave off. He's absolutely devastated. Passion isn't just a Celtic virtue. What a win for Wales though 😀
Absolutely breath taking ..fabulous .!
No idea why people make such a big deal out of this interview. He wasn't really rude just gave short answers. If he's just come straight off the field having lost a big game then he is understandably going to be annoyed/frustrated. I would have been more concerned if he didn't appear to be bothered by it. I'm thinking a lot of the 'outrage' about this is by some non-England fans who are trying to pick fault with a very good player who happens to care about what he does.
“What do you think was the difference between the two sides then?” “They won and we lost” Haha I prefer these type of blunt answers than the sad sack cliche interview
He was happy enough to go throwing himself in the Welsh players faces during the match when he felt they were winning. Such a bad loser.
To be fair he played very well and was annoyed with the decision to not kick
😂😂😂😂 I must watch this at least twice a year 😂😂😂😂
As a proud Welsh man I can honestly say hand on heart that I am looking forward to England beating Australia in the work cup. I just hope I can live enough years to see it lol. That said tho the Australian football team is really improving LMFAOOOOO
Say what you want about Mike Brown, he's one of the best 15's in the world right now, he's obviously unhappy in the post match interview but wouldn't you be? Says a lot, at least he cares and is passionate about wearing that shirt. Roll on the Aussies Saturday. #Notoveryet #Notwithoutafight #Swinglow
Love the honesty. More of this should be in the game. Never mind all this media training!
I am Welsh and I find this whole attitude here , displayed across wales when they have any success ..embarressing and juvinile ..how can we possibly keep a straight face while labelling the English arrogant when we even have this behaviour on a TV programme , as a Welshman it makes me cringe ! We have both lost games to each other over the years and not once have i seen either a Welsh or English player give such a terrible response. Petulance springs to mind.
did the interviewer start pissing himself toward the end?
This is refreshing to see a player not being "professional". By professional I mean, hypocrite, fake, sterilize...... There is so many robots in this modern world not showing what they really are but what other robots expect to see....
on an important occasion as it was I appreciate his responses as he is wearing his heart on his sleeve . Good for you Mike....... Go WALES
You know what fair play to him, he's rightly gutted to have lost representing his country on the biggest stage. I would be gutted too. Certainly beats the meaningless PR nonsense they are taught to say.
Acting like a spoilt kid. He's a grown man
Marvelous
Im of the opinion hes a bit of a hothead but a phenomenal player. A few more years playing for England and he'll work out how to channel that aggression rather than picking a fight with Sam and coming off like some angry potato. (Welsh fan still buzzing)

I am an England fan....but any England fan who defends this is plain wrong. Ok, he's upset that England lost, but be professional and don't be a pathetic baby. Usually in these games someone wins and someone loses. This reflected very poorly on Mike Brown.
Deserves to be out of the tournament with that attitude. Why could he not congratulate Wales and be gracious in defeat? Utter tossbag.

This was brilliant. Brown is the biggest tosser in rugby. It was him that gave away the penalty for biggar's winning kick. Hilarious 😂
