My taste in decor is different, but I like the layout of this house. I'm one who's actually tired of open concept. I cook like a mad woman and my kitchen frequently looks like the residuals of war. Nobody needs to see that the minute they walk in the door. I'm just not modern enough for a postmodern world.

The door to the deck is in the living room, why not move it to the kitchen?

because then. all your guests have to walk through the kitchen to get to the deck.

@@DiamondBodyMedia Actually, no, they'd walk to the area where that pass-through window is, left of the fireplace. They're not walking through the kitchen, and it'd be much easier than walking around or through the living room from the kitchen. The deck seems oriented mostly for outdoor eating and cooking, so a door there seems more convenient. If the deck were just seating and games, I'd say the current door location makes more sense.

I agree- access to the screen room would be better between kitchen and family room, left of the fireplace. Maybe there was some costly structural or mechanical reason they opted not to that was edited out from the full show.
