I not sure how many time's I've seen this move, such a beautiful love story with a great cast. Miiko Taka, was beautiful and elegant. My dad flew F86's in Korea, he also was a Major at the time and traveled to Japan for rest once in a while. I'm a Vietnam combat Vet, but only was in Japan once. I'm sure I'll watch Sayonara again & again. I was saddened to hear of Miiko's death in Jan. RIP.

As a Japanese person myself, I'm very happy that the Japanese American actress Miiko TAKA's still loved by her fan all of the world to this day. I was really surprised to learn that she has so many fans. The music of the movie " SAYONARA " is also very beautiful and will live forever in the hearts of movie fans. Miiko TAKA passed away in Las Vegas on January 4th of this year, at the age of 97. RIP.

Loved the movie Sayonara and the wonderful music score. Never knew that Miiko Taka sang the title song. She was a beautiful and talented actress. I found out that even though Ms. Taka was born in Seattle, WA, she and her family were interred in a camp located in AZ during WWII. So sad, but she may have used that experience to create and enrich her role as the elegant Hana Ogi.

IT ABSOLUTELY MUST BE SAID THAT MIIKO TAKA WAS ABOUT AS BEAUTIFUL A WOMAN EVER TO GRACE THE SILVER SCREEN. THE WOMAN'S PRESENCE AND HER BRILLIANT DISPLAY OF JAPANESE WOMANHOOD OF GRACE AND FEMINITY FROM THE MOMENT SHE APPEARED IN THE "SAYONARA" MOVIE, IN MY OPINION, TOOK CHARGE IN THE MOVIE, EVEN ECLIPSING MARLON BRANDO! She had other movie roles afterward but nothing as worthy of her as "Sayonara." Miiko Taka was born to play in the movie. I am so glad the great Audrey Hepburn was not cast in it. It may amuse some but I was about twelve years old when, in Ohio of 1957, my mother wanted to see the latest Marlon Brando movie. I pouted I wanted to go to a latest Frankenstein. My mother got her way. She took me and the movie, literally, changed my life. The moment I saw Miiko I was smitten and never forgot there were such women on the other side of the world. I reserved in the back of my mind, one day, I would marry such a woman. Well, there were not many Asian women in the Mississippi later I grew up in. But in a Mississippi university there were, and I began to socialize amongst the Asians on campus. We just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary, 21 Sept. 2023. Not a Japanese girl but Chinese. I talked her into getting her MRS. degree! At the risk of ending this tribute by making it seem a build-up to an advertisment, I must include I wrote a novel, Sayonara Revisited, and I believe in it and its message so much. Japan is going through a difficult time, marriages down, births down. Amazon, Kindle Direct, and, yes, I do need purchasers/readers. BUT I TRULY MEAN IT WHEN I SAY GOD BLESS MIIKO TAKA, WHO DIED THIS YEAR IN HER 90s, REST IN PEACE, AND SHE IS IN MY PRAYERS. A TERRIBLY UNDERRATED ACTRESS WHO NEVER GOT THE FULL RECOGNITION SHE DESERVED.

First of all, congratulations on your 50th wedding anniversary !!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 I wish you eternal happiness. ❤❤‍🩹❤ And thank you very much for your wonderful comments about your great admiration for movies. AS you say, MiikoTaka was the most suitable lead role for the movie "Sayonara ". If Audrey Hepburn had played her role, I think it would have been extrmely disappointing. I think it's great that MiikoTaka was able to perform so well in this movie, even though she was an amateur with almost no career as an actoress. I 'm very interested in the novel you wrote " SAYONARA REVISITED " If possible , I would appreciate it if you could send information about this book to my site. In the near future, I will introduce " Sayonara Vol.2 ” which was covered by several foreign singers in this video of mine.

"SAYONARA," an enchanting Irving Berlin song, beautifully performed by Miiko Taka. We lost Miiko in January, at the age of 97. She had been the last surviving cast member. I couldn't find a complete bio on Reiko Kuba (Fumiko-San). Please comment if you have details. Miiko Taka's stellar performance in "Sayonara," was all the more special, as she had no prior acting experience. Sincere Thanks to C. Hirofumi.

I'm very honored to recieve a comment from you, who has a lot of knowledge of movies and art... As you say in this movie, Miiko Taka, who is almost an amateur without a career, hastily played the role of Audrey Hepbum, which was originally planned. Even in the theme song of this movie, Miiko Taka sings more simply and beautifully than Pat Kirby's song. This song sung by actress and jazz singer Miyoshi Umeki, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for appearing in this movie is also wonderful I did a lot of research on Reiko Kuba, who played the role of Fumiko-san in the movie, but unfortunately I couldn't find much of her biographiy. She appeared in many films in post-war Japan, mainly in supporting roles in the popular Nikkatsu films, of the time. As far as I know, between 1954 and 1957 alone, she appeared in 17 films. Mostly populair at the time, a film by Yuzo Kawashima ...Seijun Suzuki and Kaneto Shindo etc... Her most famous film appearance was in 1956's " Taiyo no kisetsu ( Season of violence ) ", where she played the role of Marie. However, in many of her films , she has appeared are barmaids, sinking girls, prostitutes, strippers, and tenement resident etc.... Therefore, the role of Fumiko-san in the movie " Sayonara " in 1957 was the first time in a long time that she was able to play a decent role. Since she appeared in this movie, her career has stopped.
