To be fair, the song was only supposed to be nicki and quavo and everyone else got granted permission to be on it. Then cardi requested nicki take her name out of the original verse because she thought nicki was sonning her instead of gassing her up. This song literally started their beef. The issue on this song was Nicki's original verse had her saying "If Cardi the QB, I'm Nick Lombardi", which, we know, means Nicki's calling herself the coach and calling Cardi the star of the team. Also, her original verse had singing in the middle, right before the "If Cardi the QB" part. Quavo wanted Nicki to replace the singing with more bars and Cardi's dumbass thought Nicki's QB line was a diss, like Nicki's trying to son her, so Cardi had her label ask Nicki to remove her name from the line or Cardi wouldn't do the song. So, Nicki removed her singing part and replaced Cardi's name with Quavo's. Again, the change was on account of Quavo and Cardi! BUT when Cardi first did an interview, in London, and mentioned Motorsport, she pulled a snake move by UNNECESSARILY revealing to the world that the released version wasn't Nicki's original verse, something the public didn't need to know. AND, Cardi very fraudulently made it seem like Nicki changed it after hearing Cardi's verse, as if Nicki had to 1-up her, instead of telling the truth, which was that SHE requested that Nicki remove her name. So, because of how Cardi revealed that info, social media started bashing Nicki, saying she's jealous of Cardi and trying to compete with her, etc, etc. Nicki tweeted how the actually went down, but everybody called her a liar. Quavo knew the truth and Nicki asked him to clear it up on her behalf and he refused, saying if Nicki was his girl, he'd do it, but he doesn't wanna get in the mix. Coward. SMH. Motorsport came out, like, October 2017 and Nicki didn't speak on the whole ordeal until her Apple Beats One interview with Zane Lowe in April 2018, when she dropped Chun Li and Barbie Tingz. And, when Nicki DID speak on the ordeal and said how EVERYTHING happened, including how her feelings were hurt, because Migos and Cardi allowed social media to call Nicki a liar when they know she told the truth, social media ONCE AGAIN bashed Nicki, saying she's trying to be the victim and whatnot. It was 1 of THE MOST ANGERING times for the Barbz, because Nicki kept stating the facts and Migos/Cardi kept quiet, letting everybody vilify Nicki to paint Cardi as the victim when Cardi started the drama by lying about why Nicki changed her verse in the FIRST place.

I remember first hearing this and instantly noticing the Lombardi/Cardi rhyme scheme. I make music as well and instantly thought very weird that Cardi wasnt in that rhyme scheme because it was perfectly set up, but then the truth and drama came out and i knew i wasnt bugging. Super wack that it happened. Nicki ALLOWED Cardi and the rest of the Migos on it and Cardi fucked up, imo.

This is one of my favorite Nicki Minaj verses. It starts slow but she’s setting the stage. I love how she comes in reminding hoes she’s that bitch, then proceeded to tell ‘em you don’t want this smoke only to kill it at the end. It was a slow kill 🔥

Not sure if someone else said it but the other big part of this was after the song came out, it was Cardi who kept mentioning that Nicki changed her verse (as if Cardi wasn’t the one that asked the label to make that happen) and Nicki took that as disrespect because of her status in the game. It would be like wayne letting lil pump get on one of his songs and then all he can say about it afterwards was “Wayne changed his verse”. Unfortunately a lot of their beef has been from Cardi making things up or getting mad at things that didn’t happen, but people sided with her because she was the new popular girl and Nicki was being painted out as this bitter artists who’s time was done. All these years later it’s great to see Nicki still dominating and outdoing the other girls, gives me hope that talent will continue to be rewarded even in the face of popular trends.
