In 1993 it was a new addition in the Indian Airforce. The "Fulcrum" A had a very basic analog cockpit, but it had the fearsome combination of helmet sight and R-73 'off borsight' missile, making it almost unbeatable in close quarter combat. Modernized MiG 29 'UPG' have glass cockpiit Zhuk ME radar and R-77 and additinal fuel and ECM in the enlarged spine and is still formidable!

Was at Kuopio-Rissala at 1986. They brought 29´s first time to the west. At Karelian fighter wing airshow. Was great and it´s still great plane!

Awesome aircraft! My country (Serbia) bought this wonderful jet in 1987. and was the first European country to do so. Unfortunately, during NATO agression in 1999. MiG-29s were shot down five times, BUT they were in best case 40% working due to bad maintanance. On the other hand, Serbian pilots were very good, since out of 11-12 MiGs that took of less then half were lost in air combat against a huge force, which was far better equiped. Whenever our pilots knew there was incoming missile (the lucky ones that had working radar warning reciever) it was eveaded. Many times our pilots managed to lock on to enemy aircraft but the computer wouldn’t allow them to shoot due to malfunction.

@@theTutenstien Only countries with older equipment and brand new equipment needs to be concerned with those things, it is not very frequently that those kinds of equipment changes happen in modern times. A software update will be done extremely quickly to adapt most equipment.

Фирма МиГ почти мертва. МиГ-29 в этом поспособствовал. Концептуальная ошибка в его проектировании убила экспортный потенциал самолета. Слишком дорогой, сложный и тяжелый для легкого истребителя. Малый запас топлива для 2-х прожорливых двигателей ограничивает боевой радиус. По массовым характеристикам он сопоставим с Rafale и Eurofighter Typhoon, но они не проектировались как легкие истребители, они имеют существенно большие боевые возможности. Если Сухой успешно поставлял самолеты семейства Су-27, Су-30 сохранив кадры ОКБ и производство на серийных заводах, то МиГ-29 провалился на экспортном рынке. МиГ потерял кадры и серийное производство в Луховицах. Создай тогда МиГ однодвигательный самолет типа F-16 или Saab Gripen, под двигатель АЛ-31Ф, то этот самолет просто взорвал бы рынок легких истребителей потеснив F-16, которых произвели почти 5000 шт.

Agree...! But only if DCS fighters (including the MIG-29s) would benefit from a realistically correct simulated flight model, not like the ones done by non-professional individuals working at ED who lie that it's realistic!

Outside the USSR and Russia, no country other than India has used and upgraded the entire MiG fighter jet family. From the MiG 21 to the MiG 29, India has used them all. Manufactured the MiG 21, MiG 23 and MiG 27 variants in-house under licence. It retired the MiG 25 in May 2006, MiG 23 in December 2009, MiG 27 in December 2019. MiG 21 Bisons the last and most advanced version of the MiG 21 will be retired by the end of 2025. MiG 29 UPG,s will be retired by around 2035-37.

We germans did a great job with the mig-29 at training fights. Maybe it is not so good in BVR but you shouldnt forget that it becomes support by radarstations. In dogfights it is one of the greatest planes.

Great video!

Until I got to see it for the first time in person at Monino Air Museum I never knew why I loved it so much. I was a Flanker fan but after first hand observation mig-29 all the way. Its lines are clean and from the nose to the wings to the tail it just looks meaner then any other fighter and I have seen nearly all. F-16 is impressive but the Mig wins ands down ;)
