They want you to spend money, it's clear. The nerf to the economy now made grinding even worse and it's very intentional as to why. After all, they did just release a bunch of Rank 7 premiums along with the Christmas sale being right around the corner.

I believe this is actually the Mig29A 9-13. It's a bit confusing, but the first Fatback 9-13 carried more fuel, more ordnance and a jammer. the 9-13S is the Mig29S, with a new radar and other upgrades.

Its kindof a chopped up hybrid because of the nerfs - it was SUPPOSED to be the 9-13S, so thats what I've called it for simplicity's sake. (It'll likely get restored fully somtime in a future patch)

@@TimsVariety Are you sure it's supposed to be the 9-13S? As ar as i'm aware one of the primary differences between the normal 9-13 fatback and the S is the upgraded N019M radar (compared to the older N019) that supports the R77 right?

@@rm2569 Correct. The N019M has increased ECM resistance, is more reliable, and enables upgraded MiG-29s to engage two targets simultaneously with the R-77.

Exactly, this isn't the S. It's been a common mistake due to incorrect info in the english wiki of the Mig-29. The 9-13S (the actual S) had many differences, including the new radar, new R-77, R-27ER and R-73M missiles, revised flight control systems allowing higher AoA and a bit more ground ordinance, enabling the middle wing pylons for FAB-500 bombs.

It's unable to pull the nose around at low airspeeds and the AoA is lacking. Currently the FM is very underperforming and I am working on bug reports to fix it. The F-16 was also irrationally nerfed into the ground before introduction to live. I'd recommend covering these if they're fixed after the new years.

@Big Matthews that doesn't really matter as the tornado version in games is the ground strike version so you shouldn't really be using it in air battles anyway il use the german tornado in ground rb but il stick with the harrier gr7 for UK

@@bigmatthews666 Tornado see's F-14 behind it and performs a Max G break into the F-14, F-14 driver looks at the looooong lazy turn and stays firmly planted behind the Tornado's until the Tornado runs out of gas. Yeah, according to the pilots, they did not even bother to fight, they'd just pick out a target that was already involved in a fight, light the cans and lock up the target and lob their Fox 1's into the furball and slash through the fight.

ARB is intense in VR, I love it but the headset drives me nauseous after about half an hour.

The HMD works like a charm with TrackIR. The way it behaves for VR in your video is clearly not as intended.

Those Gaijin's thrust parameters: 3920/6820 kgf. And real RD-33: 5040/8340. Welcome to the second iteration of dev server, folks)) p.s. S version is based on 9-13, but they is not the same, if i'm correct. S version have advanced radar and optic complex RLPK-29S for extended R-27RE/TE, R-77 use, underwing fuel tanks 1150L (older 29 versions: underfuselage 1500L and underwing on 800L) for example. Just Gaijin's magic i guess.

worth noting that while underperforming the RD-33 produces around 7500 kgf mounted on the aircraft not 8340 the 8340 figure is for static thrust on a test bench mounted to an airframe with intake and all its 7500 kgf its not the first time a bug report has been made using static engine thrust when it should be using mounted engine thrust thus the bug report is wrong

The problem is with my head flying around all over the place, the mic would cut out constantly. I'd have to get a new audio setup for that.

I appreciate the information put out by Tim's variety as I have just moved into the top tier jet arena, and I want to get better and know my planes. I have to say that he does more informing on the plane itself than just making a videos where he went out and got airkills, I like that, its teaching you how to use the plane, not showing off.

The US Navy had helmet mounted targeting systems in service as early as the late 60s, way before south africa did. Pretty much all USN phantoms had access to em. The technology was fairly well understood in the west, they just tended to prioritize radar slaving, given how advanced their radar sets were.

The primary sources I have indicated that the South Africans introduced them operationally in 1966, specifically mentioning that it was the first system in actual service rather than just testing prototypes or anything. The US Navy''s VTAS wasn't introduced until 1969 in the F-4J (which now has it in game, by the way). What you're probably thinking of was a system from Hughes that used a small CRT reflector as a makeshift HUD, but it didn't provide any weapons targeting functions.

@@TimsVariety fack, I didn't know the SA had it by the mid 60s, I was pretty sure it was a mid 70s kinda deal. VTAS is definitely what I had in mind. I just take a slight issue with the narrativization of the MiG-29's story, sure it was in line with what was being done elsewhere, but by no means was the helmet mounted targeting system groundbreaking for the time. I liked the vid, even if the in cockpit part could've benefitted from a non-vr section to demonstrate the system working as intended!

I was testing both the f16 and mig29 out and if you press your key bind for switch cockpit sight in the cockpit view for the mig29 you get the funnel. This also works if you lock something in the f16 it gives you a lead Indication.

Re HMD, in the real MiG-29 the pilot's helmet had an analog sight, mounted to the right side of his helmet. The pilot would drop that over his eye and it would have a transparent square of plastic with a ring sight in it. He'd move that over the bandit, press a button on the stick to lock up the target, squeeze the launch authorize button and away the missile goes. It was crude, just a step above the AH-1 Cobra gunner helmet sights, but it worked. Then came the SU-27's system and the more advanced Israeli systems followed by the US and others. Funny enough the A-10C and the F-16C have the same helmet mounted display and if the F-14D and stayed it would have had the same display.

Thank's for the great review. A little note: The difference between the 29S and A seem a bit more complex than the difference between the 9-13 and 9-12 Variant. The 9-12 can actually be an S and an A, the same goes for the 9-13. I honestly don't have it fully figured out either, I only know that it is not as simple as I thought at first. If I do find out more, I will reply to this comment.

They tried to add the 9-13S, nerfed it, and gave us a weird chopped up hybrid - but I've just called it the 9-13 for simplicity. It'll probably get buffed back to that standard completely at some point.

@@TimsVariety What a mess :D Maybe the 29A is supposed to be a premium later... it is somewhat strange to leave it out on introduction. However... I do have my suspicion that the M will actually be a premium later on, with the SMT being a TT model. Hopefully they don't butcher those as hardly on arrival.

@@TimsVariety Not correct, the 9-13 configuration is real and isn't a hybrid. The 9-13 is a 9-12 with larger internal fuel tanks and updated EW equipment. Ukraine correctly operates basically a whole fleet of 9-13s. The 9-13S is a later, and I believe post-USSR, variant that is vastly updated.

@@supersarge24 No - I wasn't saying that the real plane was a hybrid, I was saying that what they put in the game is, with features/aspects of multiple versions (seemingly due to nerfs after the devserver). This isn't the first time they've done this, and their representation of a couple of the A-4 skyhawks, and the Q-5 family, are prime examples.

Saw you flying it earlier today, wasn't a good match for footage (for either of us lol) but it was still nice to see you running around in game

The HMD was used in the atlas cheetah and the mirage AZ in South Africa.

Another Thing to mention IS the 30mm. After so many jets With the waterpistol this cannon is a delight to See, extremely powerful and better trajectory imo

Uh, I hate to be that guy, but the 9.13 is not the S model per say. It just has slightly more fuel in the spine and a jammer system. Just a regular Fulcrum C instead. It merely provided the basis upon which the 9.13S was made from with improved radar and avionics changes to facilitate R-27ER/T and R-77 use among other things. That said, most informative. The Fulcrum is just such a beautiful jet to behold.

@@TimsVariety Huh, my limited research on what Gaijin said just says it's a plain 9.13 Fulcrum-C. Not 9.13S. I must have missed something then. Considering how few 9.13S's were made compared to the C model I would have thought it would be made a Premium instead.

A tip To make it eat less fuel Use first stage afterburner instead of second stage You won't accelerate above mach 1.10 anytime soon but it won't eat your entire fuel load

everyone is talking about AMRAAM capable F-16s, but no one mentioned that the MiG-29 we got, is R-77 capable. also the fact that we didn't get the 29A and jumped to 29S, gives me thoughts of a premium that I hope we don't get any time soon

"It will allow for sloppier performances, you decide if this is a good or bad thing" It definitely is a good thing imo. Anyone who disagrees ask yourself this, what's the point on continuing to introduce modern vehicles if they don't provide upgrades and ease of use life upgrades? Modern military equipment is easier to use than the previous equipment, accessibility improvements were done to make the technology easier to use and more human friendly. The doctorine most countries realised, was a more comfortable pilot or crew meant a better performing crew. Now that being said it appears that the mig 29 will still perform better if you never make a mistake and fly it like a champ, the difference is there's more of a margin for error. I just think it's important to accept this sooner rather than later, before the 5th gen jets with thrust vectoring arrive.

irl the hms is even better, it slave the irst or radar, and then the radar or the irst enslave the missile. Once the target is lock the red circle stop following your head but follow the locked plane. thanks to that you can easly keep the position of your enemy in a dogfight.

Think it will, if anything its underperforming rather then over. (And its still really good. I’ve seen some people hate on it in the game chat but its as far as I can tell by far the best plane in the game. Though I haven’t tried the mig29) Also the aim7M right now I don’t think is any different from the aim7F but should be somewhat better as well so we might still get significant upgrades. Either later or when more gen 4 fighters are introduced. (My guess is that the full performance would be to unbalanced right now. Instead of more decompression gaijin is just nerfing the planes. Don’t fully agree with this but it does work somewhat)

As I was thinking, this doesnt really shift the meta. Mig29 should have been introduced together with the f-14, that still remains the most capable aircraft in the american tech tree and arguably in the game. But now at least it has several worthy opponents. I'd like to see also france and sweden get better BVR missiles in the future to stop the gap between them and the usa.

R-24T's supposed "Flare resistance" is nerfed right now.

Longer lance for jousting. I just tested it out a couple times, its big asset in WT matches seems to be that its crazy fast (rather than its long range).

Mig29 9.13 isn't mig29s. Mig 29s is 9.13s, even some 9.12 were retrofitted to 9.12s. Mig29s can use R77 and has several visual differences to the one in game.

I felt the mig 29s handling is really inconsistent even now, like it's maneurability is a 50/50 it's either a brick for no reason or pulls so hard you g lock

man idk if im the only one but the radar loses lock on this jet when i wanna use my R27R !? i just don’t understand how the radar on this thing works, it was really simple on the MLD, but this i get a lock and then fire just to see the lock go away and the missile hit nothing but air !!

@Tim Variety, I don’t agree with you regarding the mig 29 being a competitive jet, few days ago , the devs released a report stating the fact that, the 29 is performing way worse than the f16, so I do not agree with you regarding the 29 as it can’t BVR and can’t BVM.

@@aurelliadarkwater1136 I've been having better luck flying the MLA then the EJ Kai. Both are fine, but I can't say I'm not jealous of other nations. With that being said, I'm probably going to start grinding the Italian tree since it seems to be the fastest way to get an F-16.

How do you know it is Mig 29S? 9-13 means that it has fat back. Mig 29A also had 9-13 versions.

I mentioned in reply to a few other comments - gaijin seems to have changed what version its supposed to be mid-development, so I had to pick one for simplicity since its kindof mismatched to either subversions.

There's a bug on console that when you free look while spooling a missile like the IR missiles, it does not following where you look like it should and how you do on PC. Bit frustrating I am not able to use the helmet mount display on my IR missiles and have to use the mouse aim to aim it.

It's difficult stock grinding this

How about it's cannon sight: on air target?? Idk how to use it (if you set up the sight mode control, you can go through standard, cannon on ground (ballistics computer), and cannon on air target (which is new). These all refer to the in cockpit sight)

they ruined this plane on release so disapointed.
