be near a runway over which a MiG-23 does a low flyby, full swept back and in full reheat/afterburner. After that, I quit going to airshows. Too boring.

I am a fan of F-16, but Mig-29 got all the looks it needs. :D -Its a damn pretty bird!

that's right, as the speaker said. No fly-by-wire and any other computer aid system and just pure pilots skills. You can notice the moments when the pilot has managed to keep the plane stable near the stall effect. Only best pilots are able to perform that!

I agree. It's a bit small for a fighter jet, but I guess what's what the intention was. Defensive aircraft that was super-maneuverable.

Pilot sure does burn airspeed in those turns. The acceleration afterwards is impressive. A lot of near stalls and good control. 10 straight minutes of those tight turns? Pretty good.

Ich bin jetzt 42, als ich ca. 12-14 Jahre alt war gab es hier in Klagenfurt eine Airshow, die Mig 29 Fulcrum war dabei, performte Tailslides und andere schwierige Manöver. Unter anderem war ein Niedrigflug über das Publikum dabei, wobei der Pilot dann mitten drin, also relativ zentral über dem Publikum in einen vertikalen Steigflug überging, die Triebwerke zeigten also gegen Boden. Ich erinnere mich noch heute an die Gewalt und den Lärm den dieses Flugzeuges ausstrahlte, es war so beängstigend das einige Mütter und Väter mit deren Kindern unter Schreien anfingen wegzulaufen! Nach einem Tailslide in größerer Höhe über dem Publikum dann vertikaler Flug gegen Boden, man sah nur die Nase des Flugzeuges für ca. 15-20 Sekunden, ebenso beängstigend! Auch wieder der Lärm anschließend nachdem er geschätzt 200-300 Meter über dem Boden den Winkel natürlich anstellen musste, es war so krass!! Heute sind diese Manöver über Publikum undenkbar, ich fühle mich priviligiert das miterlebt haben zu dürfen - eine Airshow damals war schlicht saugeil!!

Umm, make that 140 000hp. So that's 70 000 per engine.

This and Su 27 are my favourite, they look similar I guess.

Pure Kraft und Aerodynamik...

One of the best fighter designs in history, when it was new this plane gave the West a lot of fear. Its outclassed electronically now and very hard to fight with now that AA solutions are SO good, but it can still 1 on 1 dogfight with in my opinion any other fighter except for the F-22 (even then if it can get a good first turn it can possibly still gun down the 22). My favorite of all time is the Su-27, but the MiG-29 is a very close second.

Diese MiG 29 Fulcrum kommt von der Basis in Minsk Mazowiecki. Dort findet Des öfteren auch mal zwischen April und Juni Das Sogenannte Solo Display Training der MiG 29 statt. Da ich vor ein paar Jahren dort mal hingefahren bin, Habe ich es auch Vorort auch beobachten können. Das Resultat des Trainings sieht man natürlich auf den Airshows wie hier in Berlin auf der ILA. Vor zwei Jahren bei der Airpower Airshow in Zeltweg in Österreich hatte der damalige Displaypilot Adrian Rojek sogar als Sahnehäubchen Flares verschossen. Selbst beim Tag der offenen Tür in Laage 2014 flog die Polnische MiG 29 Fulcrum eine sehr gute Vorführung. Das brachte auch die Guten alten Zeiten wieder nach Laage zurück, Denn beim dortigen Jagdgeschwader 73 Steinhoff waren sie bis zum 4.August 2004 auch stationiert. Heute fliegt Ausschließlich der Eurofighter Typhoon in Laage. Das Geschwader heißt seit dem 1.Oktober 2013 Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 73 Steinhoff. Ganz lieben Gruß!

Schade, nicht einmal ein Cobramanöver. Ein Mikojantestpilot hatte davor einmal ein Display hingelegt, das würde heute wohl verboten werden. Er hatte die Maschine wirklich in den Grenzbereich gezwungen und so die extreme Leistungsfähigkeit der MIG-29 demonstriert, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Den vielen anwesenden Militärflieger, die das Geschehen wohl auch zum ersten Mal gesehen hatten, zollten vollen Respekt.

Die Musik im Hintergrund macht mich agressiv

The Polish Mig 29 are former German Luftwaffe ( East German) Migs - were a gift to Poland .

Those are the old Luftwaffe MiG-29's handed down to Poland. Hope the Germans don't miss them.

Its not even music, just some mindless cretin who is under the delusion that he can sing.

I have seen it many years ago on an airshow here in Czech Republic. It is a really nice airplane. Kind of like F15. Nevertheless it is not very practical and capable plane in a real service.... has many disadvantages but for airshows it is great.

That's because the Russians have very wide line of sight on they're close range it missiles. It can be fired while turning at 90 degree of set. Mig pilots have the advantage in helmet mounted sight that can lock targets and fire with just looking at it.Watch the full video if you can find it and you will see one German pilot shooting down 3 f18 in few seconds.The mig also out turns out ecselaretes and out climbs the f18.This combined with the best short range or missals in the world makes it the best jet for the time it was build and still can deal with pretty much any Western fighter.Don't forget that the Germans are using old versions of the mig29.The modern mig 29 have as good long range radar and missales as the Western top jets."

US F/A-18s took the chance to do a joint training with the German MiG-29s after the German reunification. The German Luftwaffe inherited the MiG-29s from the Air Forces of the National People's Army (East German Air Forces). So they became the first NATO MiG-29s, and allowed the NATO members to study the top weapon of the former Warsaw Pact countries. A lot of rumors have been spread about the capabilities of this top fighter jet - now they had the possibility to check and verify them. In aerial combat, the Luftwaffe MiG-29s proved to be very dangerous, especially in close in maneuvering engagements. With the helmet mounted display (HMD) along with the Vympel R-73 (NATO reporting name AA-11 Archer) off-boresight short-range air-to-air missile, the MiG-29 Fulcrums had a clear advantage in dogfights over the Western counterpart, the US Air Force F/A-18 Hornet. Interesting fact: The inventor and one of the pioneers in helmet mounted display technology was South Africa. In Angola, the South African system proved to be very efficient in combat by downing Soviet aircraft. The USSR then introduced a crash program to copy and improve the helmet mounted display (HMD) technology. This resulted in the MiG-29 with HMD in 1985, which cam along with a high off-boresight weapon (R-73). This dangerous combination gave the Soviets an advantage in dogfights. Once its effectiveness was known through the access to the Soviet technology after the reunification and the access to the former East German MiG-29s, several nations responded with programs to counter the MiG-29-HMD-R-73 combination. A similar training also took place in Switzerland - where Swiss Air Force F/A-18s flew against the German Luftwaffe MiG-29s. Swiss Pilots where similarly surprised about the MiG-29s qualities in a close dogfight: helmet mounted display and a superior maneuverability.
