Since this is a prequel, we can all say that THIS is the first one and the actual first one is just the shitty sequel.

When Brian was commenting on films taking place in the 60's, 70's, and 80's I do agree that those eras lack of modern technology lends itself to making a scary movie.

I saw Madea last night. Towards the end, I kept thinking of your line from the Jem review "What is it with this shit being too fucking long?" Just a warning, Madea borders on nearly two- TWO- hours. And there's only about 80 minutes worth of material.

Junuman1 There are time that I think he is a little too easy on a horror film like Annabelle Comes Home just based on fun factor, but Doug Walker sometimes gets a little strangely harsh on a movie because it has a film technique he’s not a fan of, even though it either wasn’t used much or it was actually praised for doing it kind of well. They’re both a bit of a mixed bag for me.

Brad is also a really nice dude. Met him a few years ago when he came to Wizard World Cleveland 2019. I had a cartoon drawing I made of him which he says is still hung up as of the Trump Card review. And I was going to buy some DVDs but didn't have cash. He signed them and gave them to me for free. A genuinely nice dude.

I kinda agree with Brian, horror belongs in the mid-to-late 20th century. Something about that era from the 70s-80s where it really worked.

Most horror works by isolating the characters from the rest of the world. It's hard to bring that into the 21st century where everyone has a cellphone, internet, and walking distance from a neighbor. Even a nightmare on Elm Street, a film that took place in every-town U.S.A , isolated the characters by inserting people who wouldn't believe them and having the killer terrorize them in their dreams. A very isolated place -

I'm glad this this movie was so well done compared to the first one and that a basic premise of a bad film can be made into a better one. The down side is the original bad film still has to make money. Despite everything Ouija made money, receiving $103.6 million worldwide over a $5 million budget.

I just saw the movie and the moral of the story is: say goodbye when you're done. There are only 3 rules for Ouija board and not one single time did anyone say goodbye when they were done using it. When you don't say goodbye, it leaves open the conduit for demons to come through.

I'm still surprised on how much this did better the original. This is a rip in the timeline how could a sequel be better than the original.

Only complaint I had was the fake cigarette burns on the corner of the screen to make it look vintage. It was really distracting.

Das Kinophile ENTP Yeah I used to be a projectionist. We call the dots cigarette burns. There's no need for those anymore because everythings digital. They put them artificially in the movie to give it a retro feel but it ended up more distracting than anything.

Here's two series that got so much better with each sequel: Gingerdead Man, Killjoy. Seriously, the first movies sucked. Killjoy's second movie was just average, Gingerdead Man's second movie and Killjoy's third movie are both good, and their last movies are great. Seriously, Gingerdead Man 3 (Saturday Night Cleaver) has a weird parody/crossover where its plot is a mishmash of Carrie, Silence of the Lambs, The Time Machine, Saturday Night Fever, and Porky's.

This wasn't bad...until they got to the climax. The characters made the dumbest decision and from that point on I couldn't help but think "Why? Why are you doing this? You wouldn't have been in this if you had just done the exact opposite. And no, you do not get to lampshade a horror trope when you do something that's as dumb".
