The Porsche 968 offered itself as a new model when it landed in 1991, but the marketers weren’t fooling anyone. Porsche had been selling 944s - themselves derived from 1976's 924 - since 1982, and even the arrival of 1989's mightiest 944 ‘S2’ incarnation couldn’t stay the aging model’s market languish. Development of a replacement was on the horizon, but Porsche still needed one more refresh out of the entry-level platform to hold through the interim.

    I have 1992 #97. It was a tip and swapped to manual 6spd LSD. Allot of fun. Handling is amazing.

    No shifting on the steering wheel on the Tiptronic 968.
