Midnight Blues ( Snowy White ) - Guitar Lesson
Here you can learn the magic which is behind the song Midnight Blues by Snowy White. Somebody recommend this song to me and wanted to know if I can do a tutorial about it so I analyzed this song and wanted to find out why became so popular even though there is no official recording available on KZread. There are three things which make the magic of this song. First of all to Form. It is a simple musical form with the chords E minor C and D but the way they are arranged through the song and the way the arrangement is building up makes the real magic of this song I give more information about this in the video but he'll find the chords displayed. I have skipped the intro.
First Part
Em / C D / Em / Em
Em C / D / Em / C D
Em / Em / Em / C D
Em / Em / Em C / D
Em / Em
Second Part - Repeats itself
C / D / Em / Em
C / D / Em / Em
C / D / Em / Em
C / D / Em / Em
Em C / D / Em / Em
The second signature thing is the sound of the lead guitar. One part of the sound is the sound setting which is probably a vibrolux amp or something similar and the other part is the playing technique as you create this sweet sound which is basically just played with the E minor Pentatonic. I'll show you some tricks and some examples how you can get this sweet sound and how you can have a dynamic expression with his clean sound which has only reverb as an effect.
The third signature thing is the catching the moment of an emotion into music. Blues is a music style which has a lot to do with emotion the sadness and loss and if you don't feel the same emotions probably you cannot play blues. From my personal experience and the experience of other players I know that the best recordings happened in moments where you really feel this moment of sadness and loss or slight depression. But of course you can also play blues if you don't feel sad but at least you have the experience that you probably lost a dear friend or lost your relation partner or something similar and you can put these emotions into your play.

Hey Jeremy, yes somebody asked me to do this. I must admit I did not know that song before. But I agree - it's absolutly great.
I love this song. The magic is that it really makes you feel the blues. Just raw emotion coming from the guitar.

Hey Abhinish - I agree :-) and you are welcome. :-)
I love clean sounds. Nothing covers the tone, just pure sound.
So you stepped over to the dark side. Sometimes simplicity is the best way to bring out beautiful music and you found out the magic secrete. The magic is not gone. Well done H.r

Hey George, yes simpliticy is in fact the best way also in music - and I think I could break it down in a way that the magic gets visible.

Just learn how to find the Key (E) and learn about 2.5 positions of the minor pentatonic scale (there are only 5). Find ALL the root notes (E!) as they are the key notes to get back to as you will go there often. Then just noodle around using the backing track. You will be very surprised how fast it comes.
I wanna learn as it makes me calm every night before sleep

Yes I think this song really brings one down for good sleep. :-)
Great video! If I'm not mistaken, Snowy uses a Fender Twin and a Vox AC30. A few years ago, I saw a live version of this song and he was using 2 AC30s.

Just curious is all HP. I love Dr. Pink and everything you do with it, but will there ever be a time when you do something --- "acoustically?" Again, just wondering. Thanks.

Hey Steve. I am doing acoustic guitar. My most popular song is on an acoustic guitar. I have many things prepared but I am just not totally sure if I do the same trailer over acoustic tutorials as well.
HP can you please provide the full tab complete with solos? I can’t find it anywhere from on the internet. Thank you!

Level of this lesson isn't targetted to beginners. The good take aways are the trails, shift of pentatonics, breathing or musical pauses of guitar.
Kinda like Mark Knopffler sound except played with a pic. Very cool

Snowy often play only fingers... Ofcourse hybrid to but many Times he plays only fingers...
I still don't understand why you didn't teach some of the licks properly.. And then just said it can't be teached!
Its unbelievable! You didn't even mention the name of this men. Its Snowy White, a Legend guitarist who played the guitar in a band called Thin Lizzy..have a wonderful Solo carrier and played for many years with Roger Waters Pink Floyd with the best Musicians in the World. The ignorance here is unbelievable. You wrong about the amp and sound! I'm sorry men but you didn't even touch his tone and his soulful playing style! Snowy White was also a friend of Peter Green. Sorry HP!!!
