Midland Bank Heist | Britain's Biggest Heists | S2E05

Ойын-сауық

On 3rd July 1995, four masked raiders ambushed a Midland Bank van as it pulled up to the Midland Bank Cheque Clearing Centre, Salford. As one of the guards entered the building, the driver (Graham Huckerby) was threatened with a gun and forced to drive to a street nearby. Huckerby was forced to open the van, blindfolded and tied to railings. He was told that his colleague had been taken hostage and would be killed if he did not cooperate.

How many people would be willing to sit in prison for 2 years for stealing $8 Million pounds and they keep the money? I know ive simplified what happened and those two who actually went to jail didnt keep near that much

Maybe they did. This is a dramatization after all. There's also good reasons not to because you really don't want it to turn into a hostage situation. But in all due likelihood it wouldn't have made much difference even if they did.

Was there a reason there was no security other than two women, neither of which could remember the number for 999? I understand his fear, but driving away leaving the man with the gun might have been good. Retail stores have more security than this, not sure I can watch it this seriously.

And that's my question also. Why didn't the women staff did not call the cops at once upon seeing the masked man with a gun?

I know that in the US it's actually considered best practice to not call the police during an armed take over until the robbers have left. The last thing you want to have happen is for the robbers to start taking bank staff or even the customers as hostages.

Yep they say 10thousand per in u.s are put in jail innocent! They had no PROOF he did anything only that he didn't push an emergency button! So they can take someone's precious life and destroy it over not pushing an emergency button! That is horrific they have that power! And the whole world has same system! You dont have to PROVE anything only CONVINCE a group of people you did wrong! So yes imagine how many people across the world are innocent in prison ! It's frightning! But that's the power they want to keep society in line! We all live under tyranny that's a fact! Period!!

and even if they did it likely wouldn't have made much difference. Plus in a situation like that it can be very dangerous for the bank employees if the police show up during the robbery, wouldn't surprise me if some banks directly tell their employees to not call the police until after the robbers have left.

One of the most dangerous things for a bank employee is if the police show up while the robbers are still there. Cause then it goes from a robbery to a hostage situation, much greater danger of somebody getting deleted. In this case it also is unlikely it would've mattered, cause the bad guys were in and out so quickly.
