Just wonderful, I've been looking for "what is the sostenuto pedal used for?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Danilliam Illustrious Dominance - (do a search on google ) ? It is an awesome one of a kind product for discovering how to learning piano fast minus the headache. I gotta be honest, all I wanted was a Keyboard that I could plug into my PC to actually work and play with it. I accidently ended up on a video comparing MIDI Keyboard not even knowing what those where and decided to buy one since really seemed to fullfill everything I wanted it to do BUT I still was wondering what the difference actually is and decided to check this video. Now I feel kinda dumb that I expected the MIDI to have an extra port to simply plug in a box to play music. The fact that the only real difference is the Standalone compability of an "Keyboard" to a MIDI however doesn't change anything for me but I'm still glad I made sure to actually figure out what I actually bought, even though I'm now wondering how the price for essentially just a "controller" isn't at half of what those cost but that atleast gives me hope that the quality is high enough

I got the Roland JDXI. Kind of disappointed in the build quality for the rice, but it has great sound. It's the only reason I didn't return it. To be completely honest thought it's made cheaper than my cheap alesis vmini midi keyboard that I paid less than a 5th of the cost for. Oh well. Roland makes great sounds I'll give them that and this JDXI can create some phenomenal sounds.

I was just thinking about your topic this morning so I typed in "midi controller vs keyboard". So thanks, I found this vid. But to be honest I would still go to midi controller since it's cheap and, you know, it's just a controller. Easy to upgrade because of the price. AND I think we are wrong if we compare these two devices because it looks the same, but they functioned very differently. That's why there are keyboardist who uses 1 keyboard and 1 midi controller simultaneously. Although as you've mentioned that some keyboards are capable to act like midi controller. BUT why would I do that? It's not its main function. And I tried Juno DS61, it's hard to connect it to Ableton and if you can make a tutorial of Juno DS to Ableton connection, I would love to watch it. Because until now, I still don't know how to connect it. Back to my point. It is also unfair for a device which has no sound and compare it to something that has a sound. It's unfair. It's like you are comparing a water gun to a real gun. But if you say midi controller and pair it with ableton live vs keyboard alone, now we are talking. Because really the main machine is not the midi controller but the laptop and the software with your sound libraries. If I compare midicontroller+ableton vs keyboard, I would choose the first one because it has flexibilities. You can navigate your patches easily. It will open many posibilities. Actually so many pro's that you didn't mentioned if you use the midi controller and the software, primarily ableton live. Because you can do whatever you want with the software along with the midi controller. You can even program your effects that you don't have to touch anything but your keys and it will change it's patch automatically. For example, you have grandpiano+pads at the intro of the song, and you want it to change to synth at the chorus. You can program it and if you start playing, it will just change the patch automatically without touching your laptop. You can't do that on keyboard. If you change patch on keyboard in the middle of the song, you have to take off you hands from the keys and click preset buttons or whatever the name it is on you keyboard. On the spot changing patch on keyboard? You can do that also with the midi plus software. So I think that's the right way of comparing it. And instead of comparing them, I prefer to use them together in live performance. And by the way, price? Midi controller+high end laptop+software+sound libraries (because you have to purchase samples if you want a good quality sound or ready made patches) are much expensive than one keyboard LOL!

Our Yamaha keyboard is a gem. It has really loud speakers and heaps of settings so I can play Hunchback of Notre Dame or disco synth or turn it into a guitar or strings ... and it even has drums! Or whatever I want. Is it too heavy to lug around? Probably yes unless you are a large male. But that's what you have friends for, right? Two people can shift it no problem.

I have a Yamaha Reface CP (compact battery mobile piano) I believe it is both Midi and keyboard so I'd like to use it to play IK Media Virtual Organ Hammond B-3X. Is that worth it over getting another Reface but the YC organ? ($350)? It'll have the same limited keys but it's ok as I'm new to all this. If I learn it well, I have no problems buying a vintage Y10 or Vox Continental.

Roland A49 with additional drumpad for orchestral style organic music production or something else? I already have a basic 61 key arranger and I want the best combo of both to fulfill each other's gaps and tagteam them. I have a yamaha psre353 as an arranger but I cant access it for now because of lockdown. I was planning to buy a midi keyboard with good keybed and minimum knobs and faders. Since I play piano style and am a beginner in DAW, I have no idea how important are knobs and faders and pads for things such as looping and all. Is it better to buy a roland a49 along with a separate akaipad or buy something else? I want the best combo with my arranger since it can be used as a midi too but only for its keybed. I mostly play piano and strings but would love to start learning looping, altough I have seen mostly looping requires pads too in midi. What will the best buy for me considering all of this? I'm really confused.

I think it depends on how serious you are with music production and performance. If you want total flexibility even in your learning stage, then midi controller is the way to go. A fast learner may soon find that a professional arranger no longer meets his needs because of limited upgrading or expansion capabilities.

Heya! Well it depends though. If you are kinda tech savvy you can go ahead and get a midi controller and hook it up to your computer/laptop/ipad etc. Cause midi controllers usually cost less compared to regular keyboards! :)

@@TedandKel It's good to remember that to use a midi controller like a korg mini or a keystation you dont really have to be very tech savvy. You can use it with garageband or a standalone module

Get a weighted 88 keys synthesizer such as Roland Juno DS or Yamaha MX88. Of course there are more choices based on yr budget.

Hola, ☺️👋 great video ! excuse my ignorance, but I want to get a keyboard or midi and DAW setup for my husband. He's an amateur musician, just as a hobby. He has a couple of guitars and a ukulele. He's always wanted a keyboard to make sort of synthy music. So I'm not looking to spend a massive amount, but something that he can play around with in terms of effects etc. A midi is quite a lot less than a proper keyboard , but then I would need to buy a DAW right ? For example , logic Pro for Mac, and that's 200 EU's right there, plus about another 100 for a midi. He is quite tech savvy ( unlike me 😅) so I think he would figure it out. But I'm not sure what is better? What do you think ? And can you please suggest a keyboard ? The one in your video sounds sick! I need help as there is so much out there and I have no knowledge! I bought him a record player a few years ago to replace his broken one and it was crap 🙈

Guys, I'm not very knowledgable and I need to know something. I have a Roland Juno Stage synthesizer, 76 keys and a complete sound bank. But... not many options to modify those sounds, just a few envelopes, reverb and that's it. I would love to be able to modify the sounds of my Juno stage way more. Is there a way to do that, that you know of? I wonder for example, if it could be done with another, keyless, synthesizer (such as Roland SE-02) attached to it. Thanks in advance

I don't know how to play. MIDI keybords are quite cheap and I can use software with them to learn. I want to play for myself and I am always in my room then, so I can just plug it into my PC.

I think it's safe to say if your into music production but don't need auto acompaniments you shoud go for a workstation/synthesizer keyboards as opposed to an arranger keyboard. I very nearly or could of made a grave error of spending thousands of pounds on a Yamaha Tyros 5 but in reality you would be paying for ton of features you don't use as well as the fact an arranger keyboard such as Tyros or Genos is not really designed for music production. VST instruments can get you similar if not better sound quality at a fraction of the cost. But the same rule applies to any high end keyboard you should only buy it if your 100% sure it's what you need.
