Middleton Railway 200 Years Of Steam Anniversary Gala 23rd June 2012
A replica of 'Steam Elephant' (from Beamish), No. 2 (from the Foxfield Railway) and Furness Railway No. 20 were the visiting locos. 'Slough Estates No. 3', 'Sir Berkeley', 'Matthew Murray' and 'Y7' 1310 were the home-based locos. Traction engines and other steam vehicles were on display or in service at Moor Road Car Park. There was also model layouts in the engine house and also tours of the workshop. The Steam Elephant was on 'Driver for a Fiver' in the station Yard and was very popular.
The scenes that were filmed were:
No. 20 manoevering at Balm Road,
No. 2 manoevering and then departing Balm Road,
'Slough Estates No. 3' at Moor Road Crossing, heading towards Balm Road,
'Steam Elephant' manoevering at Moor Road,
No. 2 emerging from the M621 Tunnel,
Traction engines at Moor Road,
'Matthew Murray' and 'Sir Berkeley' heading away from Moor Road crossing, heading towards Balm Road,
No. 20 passing South Leeds Stadium, heading towards Park Halt,
No. 2 passing South Leeds Stadium, heading towards Moor Road
'Slough Estates No. 3' passing South Leeds Stadium,
1310 at the M621 Tunnel,
Model railways,
A steam vehicle departing Moor Road and Balm Road,
and 'Slough Estates No. 3' departing Balm Road.
An excellent gala and thanks to the Middleton Railway for organising it. It was pleasing to see that it was well-attended.

Hi Tommy. Thanks for the comment. It was an impressive line-up and it was nice to see a tender engine there. The weather generally was good. When I was filming Slough Estates at the Stadium, we had a shower so Dad was on brolley duty. Regards Joseph

A MUCH better record of the 200th anniversary of steam than the official DVD costing £11.00 on sale at Middleton Railway. This gives a much better mix of locations, locos and other highlights.
Some nice engines there. I do like small tank engines. Lovely model railways as well. That Aveling & Porter traction engine (Rutherglen) and the Garrett wagon were interesting too. Look almost as old as No. 20.
Rutherglen is an unusual design. Interesting steam lorry towards the end, too.
Very well shot video. Pity there's not more footage of Steam Elephant. However: the other engines more than make up for this. Mac
