    When that happens, I tend to get extremely nervous and not blow fast air through the hole, so I cannot play A (the tuning note for woodwinds) that is an octave higher.

Also my band director has us practice the fight song at like 120+ but then proceeds to death stare percussion for playing too fast when he has us play 20 bpm in the gym Edit: This is not meant to be passive aggressive. I just thought it might be funny 👌

    My band teacher had a rule, where whenever you play a percussion instrumen, and you aren't a percussionist, then you either have to do 25 pushups or you get written up. That just led to everybody playing their instruments at the start of class, which led to about 96 decibals for about 5 minutes a day and permanent hearing damage. Somebody also decided to run his hand across the wind chimes one time and got the option of either 720 pushups, or he could get written up. He decided to get written up.

    I remember middle school band. In 6th grade, they kept us separated by woodwinds and brass and taught us how to play our instruments first. Then, as we got into actual sheet music, they finally put us together in full band and we got to play all together for the first time. I still remember how glorious (and horrible) it was. As soon as we stopped, everybody started talking to each other about how amazing it felt to be part of that. I miss those days. I wanna be back in high school band so bad man I peaked in high school and my life since has been a slow downfall. It's only been a year since I graduated wtf 😭 I wanna go back to the first time we went to a marching band competition and took home the grand prize. Like that's one hell of an achievement for a "freshman" who hadn't started school yet.

    Today I had the interesting experience of playing with the percussionist that was playing with our orchestra for Assessments. (I don’t play percussion, I’m a first violin but I broke my arm yesterday and couldn’t bow so our director just decided I’d figure out how to play tambourine in 45 mins so that I could play the concert.) And here are just a couple things he said: “Wait… WHY DO YOU GUYS HAVE SO MANY NOTES??” “So, are violas just violins that want to be special?” “FOR THE LAST TIME… STOP TOUCHING THE SNARE DRUM.” “So, do like all orchestra directors hate percussionists or just this one?” “I’m confused, you only have 4 strings, how do you make so many different noises?” “Why are the violins such show offs?” “Dude, what’s that big one. Is it on steroids?” (Talking about a double bass 😭) And many more…

    Very real. I cannot stand middle school band. I am a second year player and have learned Clarinet in band but also play flute, trumpet, and drums privately and am losing my mind with how people treat their instruments. Flutes placed on keys, clarinet bells banged on stands and the floor, trumpets placed on the wrong side. We can’t leave our instruments in the band room before school anymore because of mistreatment of instruments that aren’t ours, such as percussion stuff,the piano, and the several thousand dollar harmony director. Students also bring in their non band friends, which is a huge issue because they don’t know how to handle the instruments. This is awful for orchestra because we share a classroom with them and they can’t put their instruments in the classroom before school. I feel sorry for the cellos, basses, other large orchestra, the bass clarinets, tubas, all saxophones(bar our baritone who was a huge part of the issue), and all brass aside from that one trumpeter who has a small and light case.

There's always a saxophone playing a flat instead of a sharp There's always a flute tightening their foot joint or adjusting their head joint mid-song There's always a clarinet cleaning their instrument all class "Sorry guys, my reed is being weird" There's always percussionists messing up the tempo There's always a trumpet playing the wrong notes (loudly) There's always a snare drum doing god knows what There's always a trombone that has no clue what position they should be in, drops their slide, or is just generally being an ass (pardon my french) There's always a tuba who doesn't know what page they should be on "I lost my permission slip, can I bring it tomorrow?" (they won't bring it tomorrow) There's always a xylophone asking for new sticks There's always that one kid who suddenly needs to go to the bathroom during warm ups (every day) There's always that one kid who shows up once every three months (without their instrument)... yet they're always at school...where do they go...? "Wait, where are we?" There's always a Bari sax who only plays two notes in every song... Legend has it they're still counting rests... And finally there's always someone who gets a headache and yells at the brass and saxophones for playing too loud. ohh...and the horns? yup, forgot em again ps. as people reply with new ideas, I've been editing this comment (in case you're confused)

    @phillipmosier9227

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@xxx-wy8xi well i started out as not having a main tuning slide so i could get my buzzing in the mouth peice down After that i tried playing and E which is 1st and 2nd valve Then i just kept moving along But as u play higher notes,ur air will get faster and the hole ur lips make will get smaller As you get up to like a C or D on the staff,u wanna point ur air down,but dont move ur head down and dont press the trumoet against ur lips because that can make damage to ur lips.When u play those ntes and higher notes,u wanna think of saying EEEE and thats basically how i got those notes down. How ever,when u got lower,u wanna make ur lips more relaxed and air warmer and the hole in ur lips wider.But make sure as u go down that ur volume doesnt change and ur head also doesnt go down. After u can play a couple notes,u can try playing scales which are one of the most important things in music and which you will probably play everyday.Or u can try lip slurs which can help u level out ur range. And u need to oil ur valves and grease ur 3rd valve slide almost everyday.If u dont,ur valve will get stuck and if u leave it like that for too long,its not cheap to get it fixed lemme tell u that. Im not a professional trumpet player,but i do know most things.Hopefully i helped u out.
