The only American who won't acknowledge this Administration's failed economic policies is Joe Biden. "Shrink-flation' is the least of our worries compared to rising rents and stagnant wages, but it is an undeniable indicator of how bad our inflation has gotten. I have $100k that i like to invest in a non-retirement account, any advice on that?

I would avoid index funds, mutual funds, and specific stocks for the time being. Right now, the best option is a fixed income of five percent. Put money aside for the times when the market really starts to bounce back.

45% of Americans do not invest in the stock market because of lack of guidance. Every year you don't invest, you are falling behind. I’m hitting numbers in the stock market I used to dream of… Going from $50k to $600k in my portfolio is surreal all thanks to insights from my financial advisor.

More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.

The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.

This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.

The system is failing as a result of both government and federal policy. In the next days, the banking crisis would have to be epic and gigantic for the FED to decide not to raise interest rates. This won't happen; an increase and a crash are coming. There will be more negative portfolios this 2nd half of 2024 with markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. My concern is how can the rapid interest-rate hike be of favor to a value investor, or is it better avoiding stocks for a while?

Very true, you can be passively involved in the markts and still amass wealth-gains using an investment advisor. I first dabbled in stocks late 2019, just before the pandemic, and that same year gained over 150% with no prior investing experience, basically all I was doing was following directions of my advisor. We are working on a retirement ballpark of $3m and I’m certain my goal isn’t farfetched after subsequent investments and tremendous returns so far.

I did my taxes last week, I make $67k a year, I have a teenager- I got almost nothing back. I went from $45k to what I’m at now and the difference in taxes blew my mind. It took that to actually understand how the tax policies truly work. I was technically in the poverty bracket and lived within my means. Now that I’m making more at a different job, I still have to watch finances the way I did when I made less. There’s no difference. I do the 10% of my paycheck to my savings every payday. Now I’m looking at maybe having more taxes deducted from my checks to offset the wack ass taxation Biden allowed. Biden allowed Trump’s tax policies to expire. Democrats are not for the working class, they are the biggest liars. At least republicans tell you how they are going to screw you over with certain policies. I filled my tank, in WA, and have to use premium, $5 a gallon. $65 gave me a full tank. 🙄 When I bought my car in 2018, it was $40. Can’t wait for November.

The US is experiencing a unique amount of inflation due to the excessive printing of money that has occurred in the last 6 years. I'm not an economist nor financier, and I definitely agree we're paying more with less for things nowadays. It’s regularly said that, adjusted for inflation, things were far cheaper “back in the day”. But I do wonder if a big part of the reason we have less money now is because we have far more items we spend it on. For instance, back in the day, how much money did our grandparents spend on their cell phone bill, Netflix, and ESPN+ account, cable/satellite/streaming, and internet (not to mention only one TV)? My hunch is zero. Together, I spend close to $400 on those in one month. In the 1960s, most households only had one car; one insurance plan, one payment plan, one vehicle to fuel up…..my guess is that most households have more than one car now. Most people didn’t have gym memberships, most people didn’t travel as often or as far (due in large part to families closer to one another), and most parents didn’t sign up their kids to expensive ass travel sports teams. Just saying.

So if the United States is at 21% cumulative inflation over the last three years, I assume that Tijuana is a little bit more… add in the 25% devaluation of the currency, against the Mexican peso and I’m looking at a +46% price difference, but the truth is it’s much more. My tacos cost me double what they cost me three years ago. The taco is a great indicator of inflation, kind of like a cup of coffee in the United States.

When the sex workers on the street were active & business was good & they were in & of it of hotel rooms that meant the city was moving. When the doorman was opening doors & getting tipped the city was moving. When the bartenders were making drinks all night long, keeping people hydrated it meant the city was looking for action & it is going to be a goodnight. When the street promoters & the street hustlers were walking, wheeling & dealing, talking that talk it's like making funk music, the rhythm is exciting & exillerating. It all goes hand & hand. When things are active & happening for the sex workers thing are active & happening for the city. If you know you know.

As a former cab driver this is true. When there is more discretionary income, people are more willing to take a cab instead of a bus or walk. You get more movement and more fares. I would always remember when it got close to the end of the month, and you would see a dip in fares, as folks would be paying bills.

Adam is of short memory. First Powell said they wouldn't raise interest rates until 2024 at the earliest. Then they said inflation was transitory. Then they changed their minds and raised rates cause it wasn't. Then they said inflation was under control and rate cuts were on the horizon. Now they're floating more hikes. The fed doesn't know what to do. Interest rates and oil have little to no correlation.

We are bringing in 40K more a year then 5 years ago and have about the same amount of spending cash. The only thing that had saved us from bankruptcy is we did the Ramsey program. My wife had 30K in student debt. WE had to pay that 30K. I live a much better life, going to the beach twice a day, eat real health, never have to deal with being cold. And this is all on Social Security. The real estate in Tamarindo was the same price as in San Diego when I was there in 2012. Shady international bank real estate system was a trip. Socialism at it's finest. You had to deposit your money into a European bank before a real estate agent would even make an appointment to show a house back then. Is the country still run by European Banks? Your rich if you own any land at the beach in Costa Rica. God Bless America.

What policies have failed you? Or are you talking about inflation and how it affects everyday life? Lets look at the following. During the pandemic 10T was given to support the economy. On top of that 8 trillion more was added onto the national debt. On top of that 2.3 Trillion was given to the most wealthiest in the form of tax breaks. All this money had, has to and will funnel thru the economy. The more currency the more things will cost. Its the SYSTEM we live in a DEBT based system. There is no one nor any POLITICAL party that is going to fix it. YOUR the only that can fix your predicament. The sooner people realize that the sooner they will prosper.:) IMO

A $7/gallon price is about what I pay in Switzerland, actually a little more, considering the strength of the CH currency. That being said, the average salary in CH is about 20% higher than in the USA...and the commute distances are typically shorter. My kids use public transport daily (public buses, metro, and trains). We even have a bus stop literally at the end of my driveway...so one could theoretically not even need a car. Public transport is exceptional here. My job requires plenty of international travel, where I typically take the train to either Geneva or Zurich airports, avoiding an airport drive (and the airport parking garage) when possible. Thank goodness the rest is from the home office. With two Mini Cooper's, we fill up the tanks no more than 2 times per month (range ~320 miles per full tank), unless there is weekend/holiday travel. When I had the company hybrid SUV (BMW X3 X-drive M-power) I was filling the tank up only once per month, using the battery for 95% of a daily commute to/from an office. Considering how much I travelled Stateside by car (many years ago)...I cannot imagine what a nightmare sky-high gas prices are to a US family that's not deep into a 6-figure income.
