I've watched this interview a few times now over the years. I wish there was more of Bester out there; he's an irrepressible bundle of story. Thanks for putting it up.

Outstanding upload - thanks! The Stars My Destination is too vast for a two hour feature film. Unfilmable. BUT - as a 12 part mini-series, it could be done and it could be done well. The technology is in place to make it look good, there's a healthy sci-fiction fan base, the story is gritty, vivid, and unique, and potential audiences these days have demonstrated they will stay with a serial if they like it.

Per Alfred Bester's wiki, he played football for the Penn Quakers in 1935. Ro Nagey's life story is interesting (also). She passed in 2020. RIP Ro Nagey.

When everyone laughed, I kind of got chills. "Diaz-X" more than coincidentally sounds like "Deus Ex" the name of a videogame series that has two references to Gully Foyle/The Stars my Destination. 0_0 awesome.

I read Tiger! Tiger! In 1984 and still can't find anything to take its place as a compelling story. I also see a lot of that book in many Hollywood movies, whole movies are made from just one page. Hollywood can't make it because it hasn't got that Hollywood mythology that's so much a part of every movie that comes out of that shithole. They will just fuck it up!

I sure did. FYI to be precise it came from an article by Dylan Jones in the Feb 2014 issue of the British GQ magazine on D Fagan. Alfred Bester’s prose is considered by Fagan as probably The most influential on SD’s lyrics throughout. And there were some prestigious names in that interview. The incomparable Fagan & Becker (RIP) et al were and still are a huge source of inspiration for top musicians and much lesser ones such as moi. All of us steal but as Picasso once said “if it’s there you steal it”
