For pure fun, I loved reading We Are Legion, Network Effect, Kaiju Preservation Society, Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, and the first six installments of the manga Asadora! The book that probably made me the happiest is the graphic novel On a Sunbeam.

A few of these could be answered with the Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion. Lots of great characters that make me happy. Interview with the Vampire has been a terrific book to TV adaptation. I still need to find The Beast, a sci-fi reimagining of Henry James's Beast in the Jungle.

Okay, this is weird, but what hit me hardest and got me crying was a specific recollection in, of all things, Cassandra Peterson's Elvira biography. I cried when I read the Story of Your Life, but I'd done so already several times to the movie adaptation (Arrival). I didn't cry but there were moments in We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Ocean at the End of the Lane, and The Shining (I must say the book has so many more tones and hues than the movie, even though I do love the movie).

I look forward to your reaction to IT. I haven't read it myself. The consensus is pretty clear that it's a great book. But, I haven't been able to either read or watch it. I can't get past the scene with Georgie.

If you like Bone Clocks you may like Cloud Cuckoo Land. It follows a piece of Ancient Greek literature through the centuries and has an autistic character that I thought was very well done. Film adaptations that didn’t make my eyes bleed…..well Dune obviously. Yes it had differences but there were moments that almost made me jump out of my theater seat cheering. I also loved watching the Pleasure District arc of demon slayer in the anime. Sometimes “reading” those fight scenes in the manga make my eyes hurt a bit. Howl’s moving castle books are good but they are nothing like the film. The film is true to the book for about 15 minutes. God I adore that film. Side note: queen’s gambit is an excellent adaptation if you haven’t seen it.

I've had my eye on Cloud Cuckoo Land for a long while! I totally forgot about Dune Part 2! I LOVED IT! I also loved The Queen's Gambit show (haven't read the book).

I just read the first sarantine mosaic book and really liked it. I would be interested to hear Allen’s opinion. I haven’t read the second one yet so I am up for a read a long. That and Yoshikawa. I, Claudius was in my top ten last year because it cracked me up. It really feels like a dark comedy and if anything reminds me of the film “The Death of Stalin.” Get a chart of the family tree though unless you really know the Julian-Claudians. Allen would like Ove because he’s a very well developed character who fights injustice and has a relationship with his wife that reminds me of Allen and the lovely Christina. The Swedish film was really good. I read the first two ender’s game books and liked them a lot. The third one made me physically ill (extremely unusual).

I think Allen is going to have to read Ove now since he is that character. Maybe I won't read on in the Ender's Game series. Haha!
