Owned a Steam Deck for almost a year before the OLED came out. I loved it so much and thought I'd buy the OLED for my girlfriend for Christmas. When I tested it out to make sure it worked, I fell in love with it and decided to sell my LCD and upgrade to the OLED. Best decision I've ever made. I love it more than any other piece of tech and gaming console I've ever owned. I almost exclusively play on it, except for when I'm not home. That's when I play my RP4P, which in my opinion is the perfect pocketable powerhouse companion. Great video man!

Hey man. Thanks for sharing all the details! Id like to get an oled too and hook it up to a projector most of the time. I wonder if you have any experience with that. I'm afraid I'll get it and triple a games won't run smoothly... Any thoughts?

@@thehaguy I dock my OLED Deck about 50-75% of the time, but I don’t often play current gen AAA games. Most of the AAA games I play are from early this generation and past, like Red Dead Redemption 2 which runs and looks amazing docked. Otherwise, my girlfriend played Baldur’s Gate 3 and had to lower the resolution, utilize FSR, and still dip into the 30FPS range. So, it really comes down to what you want to play. I often like to play a lot of PS2/GC games with emulation which runs phenomenally, but also tackle my PC backlog of a decent variety of games. If you have certain games in mind, definitely look them up before deciding to pick one up! I personally would love a bit more power for current gen games when I decide to play them, but I also don’t mind waiting for the next Deck to come out in a couple years before being able to play them.

@@thehaguy Some of the most successful games this year on Steam have been AA and indy titles. I think you are going to see less triple a titles in the near future and have more games from smaller developers who loves games like us. The shift is already happening with big developers continue to lay off people.

At one point I dual booted windows for games I can't play on steamOS and the fact that it doesn't have proper boot was a shock to me and so annoying. the screen would literally just turn on by itself when its in my case while I was traveling. windows is so janky and not made for a portable handheld whatsoever.

Owned the Steam Deck for a year. Bought an Ally and never looked back. The idea that I cant play basic games like Minecraft or even Roblox on the Steam Deck made me realize it has too many limitations. Also VRR is a must have feature for a handheld used to play modern AAA games as most will be played below 60fps. Buy an open-box Ally and the Best Buy extended warranty and you are good.

Pre-ordered the original Steam Deck and got it on day of release. Loved it, stuck in a 1tb micro sd card full of some of the games i have in the arcade cabinet i built years ago. After awhile, i ran into issues with creating playlists for all my emulated games using the Linux desktop, where it would reset all my playlists every so often. Got on my nerves. Then the Steam Oled got announced and i was about to pull the trigger, yhen i saw the Ayaneo 2S. It was stupidly expensive but was powerful at the time and looked amazing as it has literally no bezels. I justified the spend by telling myself, ill also ise it as a desktop PC for photo and video editing when im traveling. Stuck in a 4tb ssd i had, threw on a ton of games and used the same front end software I use on my arcade (Bigbox) and its amazing! But yeah, i can't see many people doing that.

I bought a brand new Steam Deck OLED about a month ago. This thing is awesome. It’s convenient and easy to use like a portable console, yet it can play triple A games. If you get a dongle/dock and keyboard, mouse, and monitor…you can use it just like a computer. It truly is one. Layout and some features are different because it is Steam OS/Linux, but it’s nice enough and not too hard to work with compared to windows. Sure you can’t play all games, but people are constantly working to make things work and they usually can, except for anti-cheat games which I don’t really care for anyway. I am completely new to gaming. I have little interest in competitive and online gaming. I just want to game casually. My laptop is also starting to break. This thing is exactly what I was looking for. It’s a PC, it’s a console. It’s not perfect at either, but it definitely works as both. I can play older PS and Xbox exclusives and mod games. It’s just like a computer, but you will not find a computer more convenient and easy to use when gaming. If everything is hooked up right it also works like a computer just great.

There are so many games and not enough time to play them that I can play easily on the Deck that I seldom run Windows on Steam Deck. No where as much as I thought I would. I think you are better off only downloading a few games at a time on your handheld as there is a such of thing as having too many choices. (you only need 512 gb, no more than 1 tb total) I've noticed what happen when I download so many games on my Deck I end up playing one or two games anyways and end up with a list of games I never touched.

Same. This is actually my 2nd attempt at the Go since launch when I got the 1TB one for $750. It wasn't ready for primetime but it is now and will get better soon with the upcoming UI changes. My 2TB drive is going to be here soon from Ali. Altogether it's going to be only $675! I also got the Ally at launch and upgraded that to 2TB too along with an XGM 6850M. I love it but it's a little too small for me so that's why I need the Go. 😊 I was considering the SD OLED cause of the screen but I prefer Windows overall. The screen is just slightly bigger than the Ally so who knows if I was going to be ok with it. I don't have a large Steam library as well but I'm slowing building it. I just went back to PC 2 years ago or so as I was console gaming for the past 25 years or so. 😊 I just built my own custom 4090 rig late last year and it's pretty awesome. I haven't done that in 30 years or so. Crazy!

You still have to tinker with the SteamDeck with proton, and some games require wayyyyy more tinkering than Go with windows ever would just to be able to play (if it can play that is). It is also dependent on usage, if someone plays at home mostly and wants an easy pickup and play, then I'd say the Go. If it's for say train commutes, less windows knowledge, I'd say SteamDeck. Both devices are way too big for me to consider taking out in public to begin with so I'd rather the Go

If someone asked me what handheld to buy I won't recommend any because just like I said people have different use case. There is nothing wrong with other handhelds maybe the deck just fits what you need just like me ally fits my needs and not the deck. So stop with the console wars and stop being a fanboy and hate for other consoles just buy what you think fits you we all have different preferences. I like ally because of the screen 1080p with VRR prefer crisper and sharper image and no limitation I can play all my games in epic, gamepass, and steam and garena that is why I prefer ally over deck. I don't have any problem with windows and I've been using my ally for 6 months and never experience any issues an I don't know why some people complain about windows maybe its not their preference and and I know a lot of people who prefers windows over linux including me. Windows fits me better the freedom to do and play and install any games and any platform without limitations and without compatibility issues is more of a breeze to me than sleep mode.

Consoles wars have proven time and time again performance is NOT everything. Xbox X is the most powerful console today and the worst seller. Asus is a huge hardware company while Valve is a much smaller company so they can focus on updating the Steam Deck more than Asus with the Ally. (This is even a bigger problem with Xbox as Microsoft is a huge company with a lot more interest besides gaming.) I'm not trashing the Ally as it's a good handheld but this idea the hardware with the best performance wins is false. Valve continues to update Steam and the Deck on a regular bases. In case you haven't been paying attention recently the top new games sold on Steam have been AA and indy titles. With big developers continue to get lay off people this will open door for indy developers who love games like us to get more support. You are going to see less triple A titles in the near future.
