You could also trace round the old sheet to make sizing easier...

The mica sheet of my MWO slightly burnt and the service technician said to remove that and use. Now I see a rectangular part not Covered and I can see the magnetron also. Will this cause any problem ? What if the magnetron end gets oily and smoky because of Indian style cooking ? Is it mandatory to have mica paper or not. The technician simply removed it as it was bit damaged. My microwave model is kenstar om-29ecf 18 years old but still mint as I seldom used it.

What is a mica plate? Mica Plate is mica paper with silicone resin by gluing temperature and pressed. As a kind of heat resisting and insulating product. It is widely used for home appliances such as electric hair-dryer, toaster, microwave oven, warmer etc. What is a mica cover in a microwave? The Mica Plates Sheets are replacement sheets to use when your microwave oven is 'arcing' around or out of the chamber where the magnetron is located ( small square hole inside the wall of of your microwave oven - a small piece of mica paper covers this chamber.

why to cover magnetron in microwave? It prevents steam and food particles from interacting with the electrical components within the microwave oven. The oblong cover clips into the hole where the microwave comes out. The main use is to prevent splashes and bits of food from getting into the cavity of the microwave.

You will be degrading microwave tube as it won't be protected by the mica. So the tube is likely to fail sooner. It's very easy & cheap to fix so I would recommend replacing the mica before you end up replacing the whole microwave.

The problem is mica sheet is not easily available, and links in amazon says out of stock. Thank you for the feedback I’ll replace it ASAP.

Is the microwave still good to use if there’s a small burn in the side of mica plate which is it inserted?

If your current mica plate has a burnt spot, it may cause arcing. Basically, if you turn the microwave on and it sparks and buzzes, you need to replace the mica plate

If it's not sparking, it should be fine, but i would watch closely whenever you use it

@an epistemophiliac ohh, that happened to me, too. I just cleaned that spot as best as i could, and when i put the new mica sheet, it worked fine. Fingers crossed it doesnt cause any problems, but I'll probably keep an eye on it when im cooking just in case

This confuses me. As far as I know none of the microwaves I have owned have mica paper in them. What is it purpose?
