Fun fact: These are not actually the sounds used by the system. Longhorn was literally just a bridge between XP and Vista, and likely had a combination of both XP and Vista sounds. I don't think it's actually known where the "Longhorn" sounds came from, or why they became associated with Longhorn. I believe it originated as a joke or from a fan project. Maybe I'm looking too deeply into this, but I can clearly see the association between the heavenly music in the sound pack and Longhorn's "death", as it "died" before it was even released.

It's actually known, they came from a professionally made soundpack for XP, with no real association to Microsoft whatsoever. It was sold in around 2004, which explains why people thought it was part of Longhorn.

It's weird on how I actually remembered this one on a computer once my family had, especially the startup and the shut down sounds. Tbh I've been searching for this Windows to know what exactly it is since I've seen and used the typical XP and 7 but both of them aren't the same as the one on this video (and the one on our computer too).

Let me just tell you: these sounds are NOT the sounds we find in Windows Longhorn and Vista Beta builds. They actually use Windows XP sounds. The sounds here actually come from Windows XP Samsung Theme made by Samsung. These are used in various Samsung laptops in 2003, while Longhorn started its development in 2002.

@@typicalfunnymatija2990 You are so wrong. Microsoft started developing Longhorn in 2003 and scraped it in 2004, and these sounds were composed JUST FOR THE SAKE OF LONGHORN! Vista could've been released in 2005 if Microsoft used the Longhorn Sounds and made the original Vista sounds for Windows 7. Doesn't change much since both of the sound packs would be released in the first place

No, Longhorn was the codename of Vista, but the Pre-Reset Longhorn was very different. The post reset LH became eventually Vista, and the Beta was already called "Vista", not "Longhorn"

Note: This is actually just a sound pack for Windows XP. There was never a sound pack that shipped with Pre-Reset Longhorn that deviated from XP.

These are not actually the Windows Longhorn sounds. The real Windows Longhorn uses Windows XP sounds. The sounds used in this video are actually from a royalty-free custom sound scheme made back in the early 2000s by NEOsounds called the Deep Fantasy Sound Scheme, which was used in several unofficial Longhorn- and Vista-style themes for Windows XP.

Duuude I love the startup and shutdown sounds they make me feel in a way that is indescribable.

Just discovered the existence of Longhorn. What amazes me the most about it it's the unexpected beauty of the startup / shutdown sounds. Pity this build was never popular for whatever reason and almost none of the massive Windows user base got to appreciate and enjoy those celestial sounds.

windows longhorn is vista for people who think it was its own version of windows, the problem with it was it had to be reset, longhorn is the codename for vista, in between xp aka whistler and 7 aka blackcomb mountain whistler, longhorn bar, blackcomb mountain, thats why those codenames are what they are

Whenever I think of the Windows Longhorn Startup Sound, and the Start Up Screen... I can just imagine me as a child, going on my old laptop at night somewhere about 6pm. It feels nostalgic, yet I was not born on this era. That felt deep.

This has to be one of the most beautiful sounding windows sounds ever every sound is exquisite and perfectly composed. It's literally an orchestra inside a windows Operating system. Let longhorn never die it's too beautiful to forget. It's such a shame that we never got this operating system. But I could easily listen to the ahhhh for 10 hours on loop forever. Especially when I go to sleep at night

You never heard of this because Longhorn never used these sounds. Every build of it has the WinXP sounds. Instead it's from a custom theme by Samsung created for WinXP that wasn't discovered until last year

Every sounds majestic. Imagine if Windows Longhorn are released and was our OS childhood with Windows XP. That sounds of startup and shutdown can relax somebody who have antes really bad day.

The Windows Longhorn Exclamation sound was high pitched in the song “B:/ Infinite Login”.

Longhorn's chimes are absolutely amazing! I wonder why they don't reuse those for 7 again since I would have preferred those over the Vista ones.

I need to download these sounds and set them as my Computer sounds!!!

I had a thing called a "bricopack" or something that made win xp look like 7 back in the day. Even with aero panes. It had this sound pack tho. Wicked nostalgic!

Man I whish I could get these sounds so I could make my computer do those sounds! I love the siren's call at the startup and shutdown. I'm just going to say that's what it is since her singing blows me away and is perfectly in tune with the music behind her.

Fun fact: these sounds were never in any actual microsoft release or beta, they lacked sound. These sounds originate from a mod release for Windows XP iirc.
