Great overview, I’m really trying to understand slacks competitive advantage as I am contemplating buy shares in the company. What I noticed is, if a company is paying for office 365 there is no reason why they would pay for slack. All differences I feel are irrelevant and there is no one feature that clearly differentiates the 2 platforms where we can say one is far superior than the other. Correct me if I’m wrong!

Your summary is accurate. The big difference is if you are big users of Microsoft software or not as well as how many users you will have.

Is it safe to say that Slack is better if you have an organization of volunteers who may not have Microsoft accounts? Chatting seems like it would be easier in Slack’s web browser for outside users…

Generally, yes. Teams has made a ton of large updates since the pandemic and while many seem targeted to open up Teams accessibility and collaboration tools - it still doesn't quite compare to Slack's platform when working with teams outside of a single organization.

Slack's competition is not just teams but Microsoft's whole ecosystem which is extremely hard to beat & teams just a tiny bit in that ecosystem...

I'm not convinced that an ecosystem of buggy bloatware can be described as "competition"... Had to schedule a Teams meeting this morning, which is apparently impossible when on the Linux app of Teams. - The button to schedule a Teams meeting isn't available in the outlook web app, only in the outlook desktop app which I don't have... - Trying to schedule my meeting trough the Teams calendar app doesn't work either, as it's not available in the "find an app" search. - I did found some "calendar channel" thing and tried that one, it resulted in an error upon loading it inside Teams. - I just found out the "File" tab also bugs out with an error message. Wish I was on slack, Teams is a huge waste of my time!

5:00 you say video chatting is available in the "free" version of the software, but there is no such thing. If you have teams, you have ms office 365 which is a paid for service, not free. Also when you say you can have users in "teams" which you can't do in Slack, actually you can have channels that are restricted to specific users, so that is exactly the same thing.

After using Slack for a year and then changing roles to a group that uses Teams....I LOVE TEAMS. It is a much better at organized chats and has a comprehensive feature set especially web conferencing. (Looking at u Zoom). Teams is NOT hard to use at all and Microsoft is actively updating it. It's a lightweight, one stop shop for all you need for remote teams.

Discord isn't a business tool, so it's not really suitable to compare.

My hell, why would you choose somebody with a speech impediment to do your voiceover work? Oh yeah, we live in a world where feelings are more important than reality.

100% agree! Had to schedule a teams meeting this morning, wasted 1 hour trying to set it up from my Linux OS. - The calendar in outlook web app doesn't include any button to schedule a Teams meeting, only the outlook app itself. - Calendar in the installed Teams app is not available and can't be added. - Only calendar I could add was "Calendar channel", which resulted in an error message upon opening set tab... - I just found out that the "file" tab is also returning an error message great...
