Thank You Vlad for this update. I'm taking the PL-100 training and I think I'll get certified anyway.

Thanks for this update, I had my exam scheduled for end of march 2024. Canceled it and decided to complete the Applied skills route instead, will use that money to book for a different exam that is not retiring.

I'm PL-100 certified and I feel quite annoyed by this retirement. I understand that role-based certs need to get updated or merged, that is what yearly renewal is supposed to guarantee. But now they are doing it only few years after release. . Microsoft has recently done the same for MS-600 (which I also have) without replacing it. Certs are parts of my career path agreement but I feel reluctant to study for the next. And Azure Certs are not "safe" either, as you show in your videos. Thank You Vlad for this update.

I think Azure certs are safer than others - but it is very annoying to keep getting certs, and them getting retired :(. I am looking forward to see where Microsoft is going with the applied skills idea and how it evolves alongside certifications - but I definetly hope we will get a healthy ecosystem of both certs and applied skills .. and not only one of them getting all the love.

Microsoft Applied skills are a great way to show your knowledge if you are not financed by a company for certifications. I am in a recertification process ( mostly because it is important as a free lancer to show your skills are regularly updated ) and if I pass all the exams I have programmed the investment will be around 2'000 USD . So it can be a first step to get recognised. regarding the value of the certifications, you can very well spend a few hours learning by heart all the questions and be very bad at actually implementing the scenario. The fact that you have a real hands on lab with applied skills is a much more realistic approach to competence. I was about to pass P-100 so I will refocus on PL-200 and PL-400 .

Because of copilot, business users have new ways to learn power platform. My experience is PL100 and PL200 are pretty similar that might be one of the reasons.

AI definetly changed the way people learn! I found the PL-200 way more difficult than the PL-100 when I did them personally!

As a power apps developer, I was going to take PL-100. Should I take PL-200 instead?

  • @VladTalksTech

I would focus on PL-200 and/or PL-400 if you are a developper! PL-400 in theory would be the best fit for you, but PL-200 should be a good start!

I'll get the 900 soon and I was aiming for the 100 after that. Now I don't know what to do.

It will really depend on you! On one side - if it's part of your learning goals for the year, and your employer covers the expense , the PL-100 is a great certification between the PL-900/PL-200. If you are out of pocket - I would either focus on the three Applied Skills mentioned in the video, and maybe study for the PL-200 after!

@@VladTalksTech I'm focusing on certifications specifically to find work, so it's all at my expense. Do you think it still makes sense to take the PL-100 or is it better to aim directly for the PL-200?

  • @VladTalksTech

    @VladTalksTech

@@scarletporo In that case - Study for the PL-200 , do the Applied Skills still (free) and then go directly PL-200!

I know the feeling - it happend to me quite a few times. Remember you always have it - and you should try and renew it as soon as the window opens (you should in June) which will add an extra year, so it will be valid until Dec 25 !

Not again.... 😢 Before long people won't bother if they keep retiring things that have not been out that long.

I do think all this retiring of certs will make people more hesitant to take them unless they are mandated by their job (Ex: MS Partner, Bonus, etc)

  • @manusquall7770

Hello, My opinion: a shame, how can they retired it since it doesn't even last long. This is not going to confort people to invest in cert if they have to "lose it" in some year. Microsoft do some research before making them out so it is supposed to be pertinent.

  • @VladTalksTech

I agree with you - a lot more people seem to be hesitant in taking up some certs as they fear they will be retired. Not many people in the consulting world however (where employer requires / pays for them ) but a lot of Full Time Emplyoees!
