I think this is the best and most realistic engine sound ever made for an airplane in Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Would make a nice mod for the RAZBAM AV-8B in DCS hint hint ;)

This is a very nice model. It has some quirks to be sure but it has my livery for my last Squadron (VMA-513) so it is one of my favorites to fly. It is much better than the same company F-4 I think. The F-4 just seems to have somewhat mushy flight dynamics. The AV-8B though, is pretty good all around, though it does not decelerate quite fast enough I think. It should decelerate from 180 knot to 0 in 1/2 nautical mile. I seem to need more than this.

Looks amazing! Quick tip: try setting the nozzles to 87 degrees for vertical takeoff and landing.

@@FlightSim_Experience The hoverstop position is 82 degrees, mainly because it sits with about 8 degrees of nose up when on the ground. That's how you can still land on the main gear first, without it trying to fly backwards.

Nice flight. I only wish the Harrier in DCS had the cockpit shaking, startup and canopy sounds like this one.

Isn't the DCS flight model more realistic? I have never flown a real one and have only flown Cessna and Pipers irl. MSFS still has work to do on their flight model.

@@caribbaviator7058 from the looks of it, seems so. In DCS even moving the nozzles while idling slowly tilts the entire airplane, and it seems much more difficult to perform a hover takeoff than in this video. Harrier can hover only while it's very light in fuel and loadout, and not for too long. And avionics of course are vastly simplified here. This one has certainly better canopy animations and battery/startup sounds though. DCS Harrier might become abandonware and never receive updates anymore, given the recent Razbam dispute. Its current state is pretty much feature complete and bug free though, so still very well worth the investment imo.

I don't have the answer to this question. I don't know if this option was available. The only available option that I remember was to install external fuel tanks.

You might not see the strakes towards the start of the video, but they are there at 2:56 so I guess there is criteria or editing factors at play

The clouds are from REX AccuSeason Advanced Edition and the time was specific to that day: 2am. In Unalaska, this early morning time, specifically on those days when I recorded the video, the sky had this incredible lighting.

Doesn’t the Harrier have only like a minute to two minutes of hover time before the engines burn out?

Depends on the load out but in general terms, the landing from standard flight through transition and into a hover takes less time than shown here. The approach run in is 180 kt from 1/2 nautical mile out, with 60 degree nozzle and 310 feet, with a slight descent angle to 150 feet AGL. In most cases though, the AV-8B is rarely landed in a hover. Typically, it is landed with maybe 30 knots of speed. For a good pilot, very little time is actually spent in a zero forward air speed hover. This video is far more typical of how AV-8Bs land in the real world. kzread.info9b8pKAuG3uM (Remember, when they are landing on a ship, you have the speed of the ship to account for, meaning the true air speed in the aircraft is going to be the forward speed of the ship into the wind. This can often be a minimum of 20 knots and more typically 25 to 40 knots. )
