    As a Dutch guy I do not know about the louse. We still use the word "pissebed" though. But it refers to those small isopods we all like to play with when we're young.

    @@-Slinger- Ah yes, I forgot the English word. Pillbug and that certainly is the same as German Assel and Dutch pissebed. Gonna ask my grandmother how they are called in Saxon Low German, a language very close to Dutch. (Many rural Low Germans still understand much of it and speak a tiny bit while almost only old people really speak it. NL wanted part of this land as war reparation directly after the war because of the different language and strong regional culture being seen as assimilatable. It was however abandoned for being an expensive and ambitious project, some hating Germans so much they didn't want anything close to them after the occupation and America wanting to rebuild the West.)

    In 2023, microscopes still cannot focus on microorganisms as a whole. The situation is even worse for single and multicellular organisms. Wouldn't it be great if a moving mechanism could be made, quickly focus the microorganism in question by scanning it very quickly from beginning to end, then combine the scanned net foci with some kind of gpu, and the image could be sharpened and given as a 3d whole?

    Hi Microcosmos team, we are pretty sure that a 'pissabed' (in Dutch: pissebed) is actually a pillbug and not a woodlouse/woodlice. I think these terms might be confusing but from what I could find pillbugs are nocturnal beings.

  • @enderriolugirl7358

    @enderriolugirl7358

    Жыл бұрын

    Hmmm... if i remember correctly pillbug/roly-poliy and woodlouse are the same name for the same type of isopod, just depends on location. In fact, i have seen and heard them also be referred as a pill woodlouse as they are a woodlouse that can roll up which makes a lot of sense. now there are sowbugs which are diffrent a diffrent woodlouse (which maybe just go by woodlouse in some areas) that don't roll up and is often mistaken as pillbugs. There are many species of woodlouse with many names.very interesting critters though.i think most are nocturnal too. Ummm...sorry about that.i love isopods and don't have others in my family to talk about them and thought that you night be interested to hear my thoughts😊

    In dutch we still use pissebed(singular) and pissebedden(plural). Someone told me they are called that because they used to use them to stop children from peeing in their beds at night. They ground them up and put them in their dinner. And thats why they're called pissebed (piss and bed put together) I don't know if its true but gross
