As a Dutch guy I do not know about the louse. We still use the word "pissebed" though. But it refers to those small isopods we all like to play with when we're young.

So they are isopods who piss in their beds

I think we call them Assel in high German

A 'Piss the bed' in English nowadays refers to the dandelion flower. (Whose roots actually are a diuretic.)
@-Slinger-

I think they're called roly-polies or pill bugs in english.
@napoleonfeanor

@@-Slinger- Ah yes, I forgot the English word. Pillbug and that certainly is the same as German Assel and Dutch pissebed. Gonna ask my grandmother how they are called in Saxon Low German, a language very close to Dutch. (Many rural Low Germans still understand much of it and speak a tiny bit while almost only old people really speak it. NL wanted part of this land as war reparation directly after the war because of the different language and strong regional culture being seen as assimilatable. It was however abandoned for being an expensive and ambitious project, some hating Germans so much they didn't want anything close to them after the occupation and America wanting to rebuild the West.)
I am so relieved this is about the butts microorganism instead of the microorganisms that can be found living in and around our butts.
Sam is an excellent choice for a Journey to Micro host, he's got that dry, understated humor, and an extremely soothing voice! Always love me some bonus Sam content.

My microbiology professor has genetically analyzed her own gut microbiome! She had a lecture slide with a pie chart showing her firmicute- bacterioides ratio along with other genera 😊 I thought it was great!

21:18 "[...] if we think of worms, in general, as a gut enclosed within a body-wall, then that gut is a tube, and the body is a tube, and you can imagine that worms are a tube inside a tube [...]" Aren't we all, little annelid? Aren't we all?..
In 2023, microscopes still cannot focus on microorganisms as a whole. The situation is even worse for single and multicellular organisms. Wouldn't it be great if a moving mechanism could be made, quickly focus the microorganism in question by scanning it very quickly from beginning to end, then combine the scanned net foci with some kind of gpu, and the image could be sharpened and given as a 3d whole?
Love being put into a trance like state and then hearing “poop of your mouth” 😂
The section on worms blew my mind. So crazy to me that we have these evolutionary benchmarks for when this organ or that one first developed and then, knowing what organs we humans have, estimate the distance. Very cool!
Honestly, I prefer them a little bigger and rounder, but I guess these are cool too.
How dare you, I'm calling Sir Mix A Lot right now
Sam Schultz is here now 😀 This is the best episode you could have been chosen for 😆
Sam I’m so excited to hear you on here. I smiled so big when I heard your intro ❤😊
Routing for you Hank! Get well soon!
Thank you for the awesome content and great videos!!
Outstanding, all around or . . . flat! Best I've seen, yet.
Hi Microcosmos team, we are pretty sure that a 'pissabed' (in Dutch: pissebed) is actually a pillbug and not a woodlouse/woodlice. I think these terms might be confusing but from what I could find pillbugs are nocturnal beings.
@enderriolugirl7358
Жыл бұрын
Hmmm... if i remember correctly pillbug/roly-poliy and woodlouse are the same name for the same type of isopod, just depends on location. In fact, i have seen and heard them also be referred as a pill woodlouse as they are a woodlouse that can roll up which makes a lot of sense. now there are sowbugs which are diffrent a diffrent woodlouse (which maybe just go by woodlouse in some areas) that don't roll up and is often mistaken as pillbugs. There are many species of woodlouse with many names.very interesting critters though.i think most are nocturnal too. Ummm...sorry about that.i love isopods and don't have others in my family to talk about them and thought that you night be interested to hear my thoughts😊

Very nice video, as always!
Would it be gluteus minimus in this context?
hey! thanks for the interesting and educational content😊❣️♾️
I will forever think yeast poop is the greatest poop. otherwise mead would not be a thing.
The fact that my allergies are caused by an arachnid makes them so much worse. Those little jerks.
Love from Brazil ❤
We like Sam. Sam has a good voice for this. Can we have more Sam please?
Yeah, I know. Butts are amazing. I love your channel!!!!!!
"Is butt legs?" I'M SO GLAD I CLICKED ON THIS VIDEO ALREADY!😂🤣 WELL.... Is butt legs???
Im on min 22 and its already beyond amazing!
36:54 I've now realized that when we inhale O2 we are inhaling Plant poop! yay!
What a beautiful and still funny video
oh! hi sam! love to see you here!
It's just like that one story: I Have No Butthole, And I Must Poop.
the title 💀
Really interesting. I feel a bit bad for the dust mites. It's not their fault their waste causes allergies. However, I'll vacuum a bit more often and disinfect myself by ingesting whisky just to be safe 😂
I just realized all your microscopes are sold out that's really cool that a lot of people bought them for Christmas or something I wish someone would buy me a microscope for Christmas😂
It has taken me an embarrassingly long time to realize exactly why I recognized Hank's voice. Embarrassing because I'm subscribed to his other channels-
Very elegant 👏
I’ve always been a fan as well.
Good job Sam.
Way better than the last one lol
Damn im really sad, this channel brought me into the love of microscopy, this being the end leaves me a little unsure as to where to find similar content in the future and hearing that this is the final batch of microscopes sucks even more cause you guys designed a nearly perfect beginners one, and ive been trying to save but i know it'll be long gone before i get to it, hopefully people take care of them and sell them on someday soon :c
question: my microscope won't show any microbes. for example, i saw copepods with a magnifying glass, but when i put the same water holding a dense copepod population, but din't see anything but suspended sand and algae particles. how do i fix this?!?
The puns in this video number in the tens of thousands.
"A festival of feces, if you will" ... Ah, you must have met my sisters' three-month old twins!
Como tudo isso é lindo!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I find this very poetic way of looking at butts :)😃
quase 45 minutos e vi tudo como se o tempo não existisse, até esqueci de fazer cocô... I love this channel, thank you
Came straight to the comments on this one😂
I had not contemplated how anthrocentric the word "butt" was ... so thank you for that?
"-He immediately bleach the slide" Damn dude, that's brutal.

Parabéns pelo que vocês fazem, trazer este mundo microscópico maravilhoso pra gente!
2:24 For anyone curious, the Ancient Greek term this name originates from was Βρύοζῷα, typically romanised as Brúozdôia. In Modern Greek, this would be Βρυόζωα (or Vriózoa).
All hail the Buttmeister!
Thanks for the PT-BR audio

"phyla is" ? "phylum is" ! But what an interesting presentation. Thank you.
What's with the little critters spinning, like really spinning, really fast for a long time? Is it an artefact of the slide preparation?
At 29:50 you seem to play with the focus trying to see the full mite at 1000x. Is there any way to generate videos with larger depth of focus (for example by sweeping the focus across the entire subject's thickness)?
Hey! Your little picture should be a water bear and if you ever get a “symbol” it should be a water bear.
Poop!😊 Butts😅 hahaha! Funnyas

I like bug buts and I can not lie.
This is quite hilarious. Believe it or not, I am an actual Human Woman...NOT a DOG. So... I do NOT immediately look at a new creature and think, "But, wait; where's the butt?" However...that is cute.
In dutch we still use pissebed(singular) and pissebedden(plural). Someone told me they are called that because they used to use them to stop children from peeing in their beds at night. They ground them up and put them in their dinner. And thats why they're called pissebed (piss and bed put together) I don't know if its true but gross
God i love water bears
"One becomes an anus". Epic 😂
More evidence that Ass leads to knowledge.
Animolecules sorry if that's spelled wrong but we should start calling them this again it's much better name We should put together a zoo of animolecules

Will this channel ever buy a scanning electron microscope? There isnt realy a channel like this for electron microscopy.
