I use a relatively cheap Tomlov D201 Pro with a barlow lens, crucially, removed from its base and attached to a boom microphone stand on my desk. This completely removes the issue of having to work with its tiny base. I have two book lights attached to the stand to supplement the ring light built into the Tomlov for a glare free workspace. For the budget constrained micro-solderer it is an invaluable tool that works perfectly well at a fraction of the price. If you do this for a living you should certainly invest in a better setup, but the Tomlov + boom stand is great, and it didn't cost me a small fortune.

Yes I have a cheap microscope as well which has separate lights attached, however, I bought it some time ago and did not check if it had HDMI or USB output so I could not use it with a larger screen. However, I might try to attach it to a stand as a project perhaps ne of these days.

Thanks, been tempted to get one of those benchtop cheapo scopes for hobby work but I suspected they might not be very good so useful that you confirm this 👍

Well, I have heard of people modifying them by removing their base and mounting them on some sort of arm to remove the problem of the mount getting in the way of PC boards under it. However, I have found that the cheaper ones do not have HDMI output for a larger screen and also they may not have sufficient brightness adjustments in that they may auto adjust making it hard to get the best image.

Hi Maxim; yes you are right. I am working on getting better setups for the KZread videos like links to other videos and links to products etc. I am still working on trying to find a decent camera with zoom but I am not willing to spend $800 for a fancy DSLR camera. But hopefully, the videos will improve.

On the first microscope, you could always rotate it 180 degrees snd use your workbench instead of the base. 2:00

This is true but in that case you might have to put a weight on the base to stop it from falling over. However, since I use the microscope all the time I replaced the base with a proper arm that I can move anywhere on my desk and when pushed out of the way takes up no desk space. However, it was not cheap at about $250.

I find you loose a lot of depth of field information with a camera microscope. I much prefer the binocular type. It might be a different story if I were to be spending all day looking through the microscope...but I don't. It is also much harder to look sideways at the target when using the camera, the parallax effect is quite revealing when using a bifocal device.

Yes, I have heard others say the same thing. It appears to me that individuals have different ways of processing images. For me I prefer not having to look through eye pieces while I am soldering, I can look from the screen to the actual board and I don't seem to disturbed about the lack of 3D vision. Others find that they cannot handle this and need the binocular vision. I guess each individual needs to work out what works best for them.
