Microgreens and Mesclun Salad in Improvised Planters

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A tutorial for using homemade planters to start and to harvest two fast growing salad crops that can be ready to eat a few weeks after seeds go into the soil.
Mesclun salad is widely sold in grocery stores. This uses a commercial seed mix to start a mesclun salad in a planter made from an upcycled margarine container.
Fresh microgreens retail at $25 to $40/lb at farmers' markets but you can raise your own much more affordably. The mesclun salad demo uses a converted milk jug for a planter. Seeds for microgreen use are ordered online, usually in 1 lb bags (about half a kilo).
After the planting demo, the video demonstrates harvesting microgreens and an indoor gardening setup that uses grow lights in place of sunlight.
Microgreen and mesclun salad can be raised using grow lights, or beside a sunny window, or outdoors on balconies or backyards. Outdoor culture requires a non-arid climate.
Here's hoping you find this video useful to keep busy and to eat well while social distancing.
