One thought on your point about only carrying stuff that you're trained to use. The whole idea of an *Individual First Aid Kit* is that it's what someone else will use on you if you get hurt. That way your corpsman or squad medic or other teammates don't need to worry about running out of supplies because the supplies that they'll use for any individual are already on that individual. So even if you have no clue what the fuck a nasopharyngeal airway is or a decompression needle or how to use them, it's still worth carrying them in your Individual First Aid Kit if the person who will be using your IFAK on you does know how to use it.

Late to the Party on your post: I would very much agree on your perspective. but this is limited to a military viewpoint. I am former Canadian Army and now LEO. So serving in Afghanistan I completely agree with what you are saying. But working as LEO in rural settings and especially in Canada often most general duty officers are alone or with a partner and i am sure that's the same with remote areas of the US. I carry an IFAK but only what i have been trained on to use because this is for me and primarily for self rescue. I don't expect others in my service to be trained to the same level and besides TQ many are not trained on chest seals or hemostatic gauze. So this is where only carry the basics and what's needed for me in the worst case scenario or on a fellow officer only after the threat is contained. But I do agree in the ERT teams with designated and trained medic then yes carry what's necessary. if in a private security team again i totally agree with you. but as a lone officer or individual only have what you have been trained on. especially if you go outside your training a individual could always cause more arm then good.

WAR BELT / BATTLE BELT / RANGE BELT SETUP 1. You fight from your vest. 2. You survive from your belt. 3. You live out of your pack. Rules for setting up your battle belt. 1. Become a minimalist. Practice minimalism. 2. Don't attach/carry what you don't need. 3. You don't want a bunch of items on your battle belt to get you confused during a fight, especially at night or during bad weather. 4. Your belt should be streamlined and secure to your body and yet, be versatile enough to change configuration/your load out, when needed. 5. The more weight you can take off your plate carrier and shoulders, the better. 6. Always setup your belt to augment and compliment your plate carrier/body armor vest, if you wear a plate carrier/body armor vest. 7. If you attach items to the back of your belt, it should be small, compact, soft and when sitting, feel like lumbar support, not like someone sticking a knife into your back or something digging into your back.

Cool setup, but insane that a $130 basic kit comes with a TK4. I agree that it should come with a TCCC approved tourniquet. Honestly, you can build a kit (or purchase a better one from North American Rescue) for substantially cheaper; you're paying for the setup/name. If you really want the cool pull out setup, just buy the bag and then fill it with better gear

I agree. When you can get a NAR ifak for half the cost (if that), you're really paying a premium JUST for some very specific features that can be worked around or aren't that useful depending on who you are. That said, if you're looking for exactly what this pouch does, it's kinda hard to find a close alternative. If you're handy enough with fabrics and have the tools, you could probably make your own for much cheaper.

Items priced out at North American Rescue's website: NPA- $6 Decompression needle: $10 Hyfin chest seal: $12 Combat gauze: $43 Trauma bandage: $4-5 Gloves and tape: like $5, tops Total: $81 The bag is $70 New total: $151 So you're paying almost another$50 for them to put it together for you, and the advanced kit doesn't even include a tourniquet. Use that $50 to buy 2 CAT tourniquets

If you're willing to pay someone $50 to put a handful of items together for you so be it, but that sounds like you're also the kind of person to never unpack your kit to train with it (as you would have to then repack it yourself).

And I'm not "throwing jabs," it was reasonable to expect. If you want to throw around creds I was an AD medic/EMS for 6 years prior to commissioning, so I know my stuff too.

First of all, I never said you don't train, but look at it from my perspective: if you're going to pay someone $50 to put a few items in a bag, what are the odds that you would take them out to train after which you would have to put them back in yourself? And if it isn't a big deal to put them in the bag, why pay someone in the first place? And yeah dude, it's your money, obviously you can do whatever you want with it; this whole thread is about the value of a kit, not whether someone can use their money one way or another. If you want something very basic, I'd recommend getting the unfilled version and just buying the NAR individual aid kit for $15.

Good stuff, would definitely carry one on a range belt or something.

Looks like a good little EDC IFAK, but I still prefer the NAR Eagle IFAK. I carry it every day on my duty belt at work. I love the slim form factor and the versatility, it can hold everything I need for major trauma without being to bulky. (CAT Tourniquet, Combat Gauze, Chest Seals, ETD, compressed gauze, Sharpie, Small trauma shears and two sets of gloves) Although I also like the 5.11 Ignitor medical pouch, I found myself not enjoy carrying it because of far it sticks out. Now I carry the 5.11 in my EDC bag as a backup or primary when I'm off duty. My preferred tourniquet is the C.A.T. and the SAM XT, as a backup I carry a SOFTT-W and/or a SWAT-T.

The MTK Now! is pretty slick, though the belt mount doesn’t hold well on molle as much as I like. I’ll fill it with my own stuff, but I’m leaning towards a fanny pack IFAK so I can carry more.

I carry an ARS needle even though I can’t use it. On scene if I’m around a paramedic or any doctor who has put in a chest tube, I plan on letting them use it.

It's very hard to overprepare on medical. It's great to have the training to use everything but even if you can't, it's good to have it for exactly the reason you state.

I think the thing about the small compression TQ is that the smaller form factor makes it a good thing to throw into a basic kit. Obviously a CAT is a thousand times better, but the compression TQ is a thousand times better than no TQ. I think of it like subcompact pistols and the debate between concealed carrying a subcompact vs a full size handgun. Obviously the full size handgun is better than the subcompact .380, but the subcompact .380 you have with you is better than the full size 1911 that you leave at home.

The toughest part about this kit is shoving all the individual components into the elastic bands that keep them in the pull out pouch. My fingers were hurting after finally getting them all jammed in there lol

I carry it vertical on my belt in front of my taser. It fits well there and out of the way. It gives me immediate self aid option away from my patrol vehicle, where my IFAKs are.

can you add the Velcro belt loops to the Molle version Mini Trauma kit.? Trying to figure out which attachment works best with a Ronin Belt. Thanks for your vid very informed.

Down side to this kit in my opinion is that putting it back into the elastic is not practical. So it’s a pull out and leave out until you can take off your battle belt to put all your unused supplies back in

You should carry the advanced even though you don't know how to use it. There's a chance that someone else will. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I got a empty trauma kit now (from ebay) and noticed the 2019 version uses a velcro closure for the insert. Just something to notice.

what is your opinion on the elastic rubber bandages - I think they are called ‘Esmark’ - Stretching these and rolling them tight on an arm or leg gives a really good compression, can easily stop my my oxymeter from detecting pulse on my fingers when wrapping on arm. Does not mean that the arteries are fully compressed though ?

So, I have the micro kit, but did not buy the pre-loaded kit. BFG seems to always be out of thier prebuilt kits. So, where is a good place to buy supplies to build my own kit?

Plastic and tape doesn't stick as well and takes longer to apply. I would just spend the money honestly.

It would be nice if training could be for provided to people without having to go through years and years of college when combat units are given quick training for such things.

I hate when people tell other people they shouldnt have something unless they know how to use it. No you can have it just dont use it until you know how to use it. I may not know how to use a decompression needle but someone else around me might. Or a good samaritan medic might use it on me.

I disagree. All you are doing is taking up space, spending more money, adding clutter and increasing weight for the off chance that an ALS provider stops at a scene, doesn't have their own equipment and is comfortable using someone else's stuff. Carry what you can use safely.

For context I’m a complete beginner I want to seek training and one on one advise where could I possibly look?

Okay everyone that has this pouch/kit, I have a question. With exception of the gloves and the packing gauze I have the same things in it. What I am finding is that it is hard as all hell to pull the inside pack from the sleeve. Anyone see this as an issue and have a remedy? I'm about to cover have of the Velcro patch inside the sleeve so there is less resistance.

I made my own with a SWAT tourniquette, clotting sponges and gorilla duct tape, I got gloves from a box at Harbour Frieght.

Does the belt version support the tourniquet hammock?

Everyone should carry a small trauma kit in these troubled times. I wonder how many people want to, but are put off by seeing stuff like this and believing that they have to shell out a bunch of money to be equipped to save a life. You can put together a very decent basic kit for around $50.00. Elitism/gear snobbery isn't helping anyone except those who make and sell this kind of thing.

$40 worth of product, wrapped in a $70 bag, sold for $200.

Personally I love their gear and have used it now of course once things get used I'm repacking and saving a boatload of money.

No its not. Just because you pay $25 for a tk dosent mean it costs that much. Same with the needle decomp.the 2 most expensive items can be bought retail for $30.

No, theyre not. Thats just what you pay for them. Hyfin chest seals are 3 for $15 retail, needle decomp is $15, combat gauze is $5, NPA is $1...the pouch is $70 on their site. Seriously man, you are getting robbed.

I am not in the medical field, but I believe you have to get medically licensed in the US to perform a NCD on someone else. US is is very touchy about performing medical aid on someone.

I found that the Micro Trauma kit is just TOO SMALL. By the time you stuff in enough for even the most basic of MARCH, you have packed it to the brim and it is basically stretched out and not low profile anymore. I like the Army issue IFAK gen II or the SOTECH IFAK. They are slightly larger, but that allows them to stay flat when filled. The Micro Trauma kit just becomes like a soda can.

Have you seen the price of a normal SOF tourniquet? Also, a TK4 tourniquet is better than no tourniquet. I won't spent $40 on a tourniquet especially if used in a civilian environment, you loose it. Mind you that the price does not represent actually the quality of the product. Its nothing but a rip off for profit.

DO NOT BUY THIS KIT. It sucks. The outer sleeve is not long enough to cover the open corner folds of the insert, It will fill with rain, dirt, mud etc. It also doesn't cover the D needle, it WILL dislodge. For the price there are far better options available.
