Micro Camper Project - Skoda Octavia Estate:

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Having briefly considered converting a small van into a basic camper, I decided after seeing similar videos to this that it wasn't worth the time, effort or cost. I have no wish to part with my Octavia and am not looking to take longer holidays in it but it will provide a comfortable free bed for one or two nights whilst persuing my hobby or visiting friends without imposing on them....... Apart maybe from getting breakfast in bed!!
Although the main items are now in place, it's still work in progress but I doubt I can wait until spring to put it to the test...... Watch This Space!!

Well done looks great. Tried this twice with my own Octavia 1.4 TSI. Just basic. Put a box on top for extra srorage and my fishing rod holdall bungeed to the roof bars, comfy and roomy, sleeping, (head at boot end) ridge where boot floor meets seats, just needs a ply leveller really. thin foam mattress and double sleeping bag. Easily roomy enough for me and my dog for a 4 day break in Scotland. Much comfier and drier than a tent. Pleny of room for storage in rear footwells, small suitcase at the side. Feeling of freedom is amazing. Really no need at all for expensive bulky Motorhome. Good luck with yours. Regards Michael

Cheers Michael, I've put a later update on with a few modifications and agree that head at back end is better (if a bit lower). Your adventures are inspiring and I think the Octavia is ideal for the job. Nice to hear someone else confirm the fact. Thanks for your kind comment, take care. Brian.

Excellent work ! Are you still using the Skoda and if so can you do an updated tour, you mentioned that you have changed the bed set up, also could you tell me the height in the rear of the vehicle with the spare wheel platform out ? hope that makes sense, thanks Dan.

Love this! I have a very similar car, the Skoda Octavia Scout Premium. Tried car camping in it last year and whilst liveable, was not optimal yet. Would love to see what else you've come up with since!

Thanks, you have good taste Lol. I love my 'Octi' & as a 6 footer it's a perfect size. I've made a few minor alterations like raising the bed height to increase storage below, carpeted the storage box, modified & raised the curtain rail and am currently making insulated blackout window covers (as well as full privacy tints)... Not relevant but it's also been treated to a set of 18" VRs Gemini wheels. May be a little while but when I'm satisfied I'll post another vid. Cheers, Brian.

Thanks but if I was planning to do that I'd buy a fully fitted van or do a proper conversion. I'm still redesigning it but it will always be an estate car & a casual overnighter, I like my home comforts too much lol.

Yes, the single back seat stays upright. It all worked well for me for one or two nights away but I've actually moved on to a more spacious camper van now for longer breaks. Still have car though lol.
