Mickey 'Mixin' Oliver - Live @ WBMX 1985

Музыка

Mickey Oliver live over the airwaves of Chicago on WBMX Radio. Broadcasted somewhere in 1985. And what a great selection. Ranging from the then latest dance hits, European Italo imports and local Chicaog (acid) house tracks.
Oliver was part of the legendary Hot Mix 5 together with founder Farley 'Funkin' Keith aka Farley Jackmaster Funk, Ralphi 'Rockin' Rosario, Kenny 'Jammin' Jason and Scott 'Smokin' Silz.
Hot Mix 5 DJ's played early house (classics), synthpop, Hi-NRG and (Italo) Disco, a nice blend of European imports and the 'new' house style from Chicago.
Hot Mix 5 was created to act as the resident DJs on Chicago FM radio station (now defunct) WBMX's Saturday Night Live Ain't No Jive mix show hosted by Armando Rivera. The members quickly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Soon Friday Night Jams, Mini Mixes and specialty edited remixes were added. The Chicago house music scene exploded as the Hot Mix 5 show and WBMX became the #1 Radio show in Chicago, by airing a new sound called House Music that was presented by their unique style of turntablism. Mickey Oliver became known by his editing and Turntable skills, and Farley, Ralphi and Kenny each had their own incredible unique styles. Soon the Hot Mix 5 Radio show became known all over the world as their mixes were recorded on cassette tapes and sent across America and abroad d. Together, with their Turntable skills and this new genre that emerged called House Music, they broke most every Chicago House Music Records and Italo Disco tracks, while airing to millions of Chicago listeners. Together, the've became legends as their mixes are still being sold today on the likes of eBay and other outlets. Many of the Top Djs in the world have recognized the Hot Mix 5 as their mentors, as to setting the bar of what a DJ can be.

Nah bruh, it's all Mickey. Mickey had several cuts pre-recorded with his own signature edits, and I recognize them from other mixes he did. This post is actually two different Mickey Oliver mixes... But you probably know that by now. But I agree, his mixes are stylish.

@@Deephouse_Gent66 - Ya know, after going back listening again, at 59:40 the DJ said Farley is coming up but that was probably the live broadcast but to follow was Mickey. I saw him live in the early 80s firing off those triples with perfection! None of the electronic wizardry they have now!

Hey people, been searching for a track ID for years on this mix. At the end is Free Enterprise - Make it On My Own. What track follows it then fades out at the end of the mix - it maybe two tracks mixed together. Thanks all ;-)

@@magic_juan75 Here’s the backstory. I am from a small town in Wisconsin by the name of Green Bay. Green Bay is also the home of the University of Wisconsin Green Bay, where I attended undergraduate school in the early '80s. Total student population in the early 80s was about 5000 students, mostly Caucasian, with some Minorities. UWGB had a student run radio station by the name of WGBW, 91.5 FM, broadcasting at about 2000 Watts. During the week day, the student DJs would play music that you would normally associate with a small upper Midwest town, namely rock ‘n’ roll, hard rock, even some nontraditional Music. However, beginning at 5 PM every Friday night, the station began playing some of the finest new and classic urban adult contemporary, Urban adult rap, adult dance music, and Chicago House music. The volunteer student DJs would buy their own music, and play this music on the weekends beginning Friday night and ending Sunday afternoon. Every weekend from 1983 - 1990 brought new exciting, urban sounds that listeners like myself would record on their cassette players, much like what everyone did when the The Hot Mix 5 cranked up their jams on WBMX FM. This is how a small city white boy from the upper Midwest grew to love all forms of urban music, including the same songs played by Kenny "Jammin" Jason, Scott Smokin’ Sils, Farley "Jack Master" funk, Ralphie "The Raz" Rosario and Mickie "Mixin" Oliver. When that music hit the airwaves Friday nightat 5 PM, every Green Bay weekend seemed like heaven on earth. All from a small upper Midwest town populated almost exclusively by white middle-class Americans. Every time I hear one of these classic songs, it brings tears to my eyes because of The Joy those weekends spent with WGBW and their volunteer DJs provided. , WGBW-FM DJs included “Da Bus”, “Medhi”, “Phil White”, “Tom Brown" (Member of the UWGB basketball team), “Say Hey Ray Williams”, “VTFC: Vernon Taylor Fat Cat - from Philly”, and “Taste of Honey”. I am sure there are some I’m leaving out, but it’s been almost 40 years now. So there you have it, now you know why I react so r.espectfully Thanks again for IDing these classics. They bring back fond memories which are so strong, I sometimes want to shed a tear. 🥲😄
