Mick Schumacher Isn't Coming Back...

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Mick Schumacher's career came to a grinding hault after the 2022 F1 season. having moved to Mercedes he seems to have started afresh, being accredited with their double podium in the Spanish Grand Prix. Is that enough to save his career though... I'm not convinced, here's my reasons why, along with what chances Mick has with getting back on the F1 grid for 2024...

Mick still has a lot of life left in his career in racing and if I had to guess, he’s probably learned more at his short time at Mercedes than he has at his entire career at HAAS. I reckon they're trying to get Mick to that reliable level, but then also considering what other options they may have. Thus, if things fall into place, I'd say he'll be back.

After Canada, Mick was actually showing real signs of improvement, and he often outperformed Magnussen. I know, he had a lot of time in that seat but it seemed like it just took him a while to get up to speed. I think he actually has real talent once he's comfortable with the car. And that's kinda what I saw happening towards the end of that season with the Haas, he was finally starting to get a good feel for it. So I was sad when they let him go, as I thought he was finally going to start exceling, which would have been cool to see for a team like Haas. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that "I told you so," but after the 2022 season, when I looked back at Mick's performance I wasn't impressed with Kevin by the end of the year. I had no idea they would choose Hulkenberg, but I did kind of feel like it made more sense to keep Mick rather than Kevin. Magnussen's a seasoned driver, he's not going to improve a whole lot. At least Mick has the potential for further improvement. I dunno, I definitely wanted Haas to keep him, but then when they signed Hulkenberg who started off really well this season, I couldn't help but think what a missed opportunity it was to get a veteran like Nico in there to give Mick some new advice. I wholeheartedly believe Mick would be doing better than Kevin right now. But that's some hindsight wishing. My point being, I think you're right, I think he's probably done. But... lots of stuff I've never expected to happen has happened. So I don't rule anything out. I DO think that Mick is talented and might deserve another shot though.

I agree - Mick had 2 seasons to prove himself and didn't. Sargeant's not as bad as you're making out - at the start of this season he'd had pretty much no time in an F1 car and the first 6 races were street circuits most of which he'd never previously driven, so not ideal for finding out the car's limits. Since Austria he's been much closer to Albon and I reckon will score points before the season's out - so should retain his seat for 2024. And if Williams decide not to go with Sargeant for year 2, why put Mick in the car - even with Mercedes backing ? Surely Merc are more likely to want to put Fred Vesti in an F1 car to see how he performs and if he's a future driver for the Silver Arrows? Agree on Alfa / Sauber - Pourchaire is the only sensible choice if they decide to drop one of their two. Alpha Tauri has both drivers out of contract at the end of this season - and RB have Liam Lawson waiting in the wings for their next available seat. So I really can't see why Mick would be any team's choice given the alternatives.

Lest we forget all of the front wings KMag lost on lap 1 and had as many race ending crashes as Mick (albeit not as spectacular). Of course Kmag outperformed Mick in average finish...right? Yes, but by about a half a position per race. Kmag couldn't convert good qualifying into good results despite being clearly favored by Steiner and the team as a whole. Yeah, Mick got totally dominated.👍Perhaps analysis isn't your best suit. Your comedy is much better.

Maybe 2024 _'might'_ not be Mick's year to return, but truthfully... he has a MASSIVE chance at getting a full-time seat. Maybe not necessarily for 2024, but looking at 2024 and beyond, he has a very realistic chance at a full-time seat with a top team!!!! Firstly, most top teams have already stated that they would love to have Mick drive for them, except for the fact that they had drivers signed. Secondly, Toto snapped him up when nobody else would. Yeah! Let's hear your argument against that, mate! Thirdly, Mick's talents are undeniable! The team that not only gives him a full time drive, but also supports him as one of their longtime drivers, KNOWS damned well that he's going to win races for them.
