    To those complaining about the video quality, it's either this or no video at all. The original footage was given to me by Freddie Spencer on a VHS tape around 2001. There was no high definition version. It was ripped from the tape and output for 56k dial-up speeds. Horrible quality - but I'll take that over no footage at all any day.

    @@MrGutfeeling Possibly, since Freddie had it on a VHS from Honda. Maybe others got it as well. I haven't seen it yet. I wish I had the original tape so I could rip it using newer technology and try and up-res the footage.

    Just goofing around waving and pulling wheelies, the lap time would still be quicker than 90% of bike riders. Not bad for two old blokes, heroes and legends the pair of them.

    Funny to think they were 2 'old' blokes here, yet still younger than Rossi is now.

    Those 1st RCV's were so much better looking than the latest versions they ride today plus they were proper race bikes without those stupid wings and ride height , traction control etc etc , no wonder a moto 3 rider can jump on one and rag it , its all computers doing it for them , too much technology now .

    Agreed. It was inevitable that MotoGP was going to go the way of F1 in terms of electronics and traction control (and tires), but at this point the race is determined more by how the bike is set up on that specific day than pure rider talent. Riders still plays a huge part but not like they did back in the Schwantz/Rainey/Doohan era and before.

    Begrudgingly.... Always thought Spencer had the most at ease, natural style on the bike. The bike seemed to be an extension of his body. Dude was devastatingly fast.

    Freddie was my favourite when I was a child, but all of the Americans from that era were excellent. When I grew up I loved Doohan the most. Doohan dominated at the end of an era so he is final champion in my opinion. It's a different sport now, safer and more sterile, which is good and bad.

    The way these 2 legends hang off the bike while cornering seems quite different from today's riders - still very much the 2 stroke era style. Has cornering technique actually changed/evolved since then?

  • @MyTeebag

    @MyTeebag

    8 жыл бұрын

    yes cornering has changed very much. as you can see these two have a higher sitting position on the bike, where as if you look at the racers of today they hang over and try put as much weight over the front wheel as possible. even if you watch Valentino Rossi, you can see how he has adapted and changed his ridding over the last 10 years. i hope this answers your question

    The huge difference in tires now plays a big part, todays extreme lean angles require a different posture in themselves compared to the hanging off, keeping the bike more up right posture of the earlier times.
