I think this was executed great, the focus of this show is on friendship, and the finale is about how they are growing up and moving on from the days where everything was their friendship. When they kissed, it was too early, when james said he would wait, he knew why they needed to.

I love this scene, and I am gutted that we didn't get to see more of james and erin's romance, but orla's reaction at the end to the man with the hammer made my day! 😂😂😊
"This is incest!" Although James points out that it isn't really incest, Michelle might feel that way, since the gang are as close as family at this point.
