Michelle Obama talks parenting, partnership and turning your rage into change | NPR

Ойын-сауық

Former first Lady Michelle Obama knows not everyone is motivated by her famous quote from her 2016 DNC speech. In fact, she knows some voters have been downright frustrated with her call to "go high."
In her new book, "The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times," Obama acknowledges a generational rift in views over the pace of societal change and political action, in addition to opening up about other deeply personal details on how she's coped with changes - both in public, and in private.
Generational shifts are a theme throughout the former first lady's latest book, which strikes a different tone from her 2018 book, "Becoming." In her first memoir, Obama peeled back the layers of her and her family's personal story, giving the world an intimate view. While "The Light We Carry" includes plenty of personal details, it serves as more of a guidebook in which Obama uses her own lived experiences to answer questions many people ask about life, including how to have a strong partnership and how to let your children become confident in their own abilities.
Whether it's the pandemic, racial injustice, or economic uncertainty, Obama said the past few years have been a collective struggle for many, and she's received lots of questions from people searching for ways to keep their hope alive. Obama spoke with NPR about her marriage and what advice she might give those trying to figure out a partnership today, how her relationship with her daughters has evolved as they've become adults and what "when they go low, we go high" looks like in action.

I continue to be amazed by Michelle Obama, because she overcame so much. And she shares how she survived those tough times. And I’m so glad we’ve gotten a chance to know the authentic Michelle, because they judged her before they knew her. And when they made wrong judgments against her, they then went about trying to find anything to support their ugly biases. However, through it all, she remained a class act far above the racial slurs and even when they attacked her girls for no reason. My respect for this woman keeps growing!👍🏼🌹

NPR is corrupt. Barrack Obama started six wars whose administration used legislation to propagandize Americans to keep reality from people. No wonder our young society quit too soon Dr. These people use corporate programming and propaganda to create toxicity. Can you name me the six wars? Are you aware of the Smith and Mundt Modernization Act of 2012? You are a Dr. so I expect you to do your research.

My mom never trusted me, she let me do things only because she was too busy with her work and social life. I had to be independent only because she wanted to get rid of the parenting burden. She never wanted kids and shouldn't have any, I didn't realize it until my mid 30s, once I realized and accept the fact that I am an unwanted child, the confusion, anger, and conflicts are all clear and gone. I can now face myself and be confident that I did beyond than what I should have done, and I am proud of myself.

I have an unpopular opinion. My parents are very hands off, I.e. allowing me to own my own decisions, taking my own battles, and I’m not liking it. I have less security comparing to many of my peers. I think parents still need to provide a safe net, it’s very important for children that are exploring in unknown territory to know it won’t be the end of the world and their mom&dad is still there whenever they need comfort or advise or plan B.

  • @chavonjackson4109

I feel Mrs Obama still had the safe net. Although their mom was hands off, it didn't mean that she wasn't there as a guide; a present help. I think her definition means not to coddle. It's like a Mother Bald Eagle. She tips the nest to see her babies fly. As they're trying to fly she hovers underneath to give them the confidence in their wings. Since she sees they dont have it, she carries them back up to the nest and tips it again until she sees they have their wing strength.

She is lovely woman truly beautiful in and out, picked wisely her husband and have wonderful children . Her mum was wise parent too. She learned from stories ! There is a lesson here . Partnering with the right person is so so important .

Wow the solid advice, I. am going to be married 35 years and Mrs. Obama just described the marriage percentage so beautifully. I look back & see I definitely was not giving 50 or 100 percent.

I am Michelle Obama fanatic and I like her accepting her self but if this comment is reaching to her I want to tell her that I am from India and the open tresses she earlier use to carry was really going with her attitude she put on everytime, she is straightforward she is cordial and her short open hair speaks about attitude. In every look I would adore u rever u but u had really rocked on ur short open tresses. If possible please boomerang with ur previous look.
