"Just go to the cops!" per Rappaport.. Rape, is about power. The victim afterwards feels Humiliated, ashamed, confused. The perpetrator knows this as well and knows how difficulty it is for the victim to even speak about it to confidants, let alone go to the Cops! To be further aired et al. Again, the perpetrator knows this and further gives him, POWER. And if he be in a position of power, the dynamics are doubled.

I like Rapaport but come on man. There may be a lot of people who have held this stuff back for fear of being targeted by the powerful people that put them in this shitty position to begin with. This whole thing is shedding a lot of light on whats been going on for decades now. Its unimaginable to think people haven't still been coming forward with this stuff to police officials for years and years. In fact, looking at a lot of these accusations and the history behind them, people have went to the cops a great many times, and nothing has changed. Their are a lot of entertainers and reporters with scores of this in their history, with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. By the standards of a person who can still resume their career despite allegations, or just pay the penalty of settling outside of court. So maybe it takes social media such as twitter for people to start coming forward in a public way. Its not gonna pinpoint all the people responsible for these acts, and some will become falsely accused. Its a lot to wade through. This shit has been going on for years and years. Going to the cops doesn't solve everything, Its surely not a strike against someone who either tried and failed to talk to authority, or those who are finding the courage to speak out now, that they used something like twitter to find their footing and speak up.

And it happens in far lower profile work settings than Hollywood - it's your livelihood, before this story broke, there was no support. I've experienced this first hand, it was truly shocking to me how many people looked the other way. It never occurred to me that I would be doubted. What could I possibly have to gain, it's the most humiliating, horrifying experience of my life. If you have the courage to tell the cops, and the cops blow you off, it shatters your faith in society, maybe even more than the assault itself.

My guess is going to the cops involves a lot more on her/his part than going to someone above the accused in the business hierarchy. Going to the cops means rape-kits, official reports with your name on it, having to testify in court, etc. Much more invasive on the victim. Going to their boss, especially if it happened in a work situation, probably just means (at worst) an internal investigation; the cops have to deal with the criminal legal system, which has burden of proof, innocent until proven guilty, etc., whereas a business leader/boss would likely be more responsive with less evidence, since they want to protect the business. In other words, pursuing it criminally means the onus is on you to prove it, but civilly, there is much less required, the onus is on them, and bosses will likely respond because they want to prevent lawsuits and payouts. That said, I take the point that not going to the police means that the accused could continue behaving this way, and isn't criminally punished. I just wanted to take the victim POV, and explain why it might be reasonable to report to corporate heads, but not the police. If you are the type that doesn't take on the victim mentality, and you just want to get on with your life, taking the route that is less invasive and doesn't make your name synonymous with "rape victim" might make sense.

A lot of women did go to the cops. A lot of these men do have them in their pockets or at least sleazy lawyers that sweep it under the rug for them. There was that actress that wore a wire for the cops and went back and put herself back in danger to catch him and dude still walked away from it like it was nothing. I want all these “why not speak up then” people to look Terry Crews in the eye and ask him why he did nothing about it or didn’t speak up until all these women started to speak up. It doesn’t matter your size, your race, your age, your gender, your orientation, your job, your wealth, intimidation is paralyzing.

There was a team that intercepted allegations to the cops. They just want it to stop. So telling the studio head etc means they should be on notice and the victim protected henceforth. People were threatened. You gotta understand the mindset of abusers and the machinations.

prob because for a celebrity its easier to get thousands of people to spread he word and be guarded by their outrage then the media pics up on it and ruins the abusers career. its safer for them and they personally dont have to go through court and stuff. for the average person though they should go to the police. imo though if it didnt matter enough to go to the police 20 years ago then they shouldnt complain about it now.

The stats show a LOT of victimized women don't go to the cops, for obvious reasons. One, being assaulted or especially raped brings a stigma (thanks to society and certain religions) that is really shameful for a lot of people. Two, it's tough to admit to a bunch of people (cops, parents, lawyers) who are then going to make you prove it. Three, proof is really hard. Even with DNA, the defence becomes it was consensual, and the history of assault shows the results favour the man. Four, it destroys the woman's life, either in terms of relationships or extra trauma, that never gets resolved. So ya, thats why women don't go to the cops.
