Michael Norman 43.06! 2nd Fastest Split In World History

Спорт

Michael Norman was on fire at the 2018 NCAA West Prelims! He split a crazy 43.06 on USC's anchor leg of the 4x400m. That time is the second fastest 4x4 split in world history.

LOL at the commentator. He did such a good job announcing and calling out splits, and then when the race finishes, he doesn't say anything for about 5 seconds because he thinks he messed up Norman's split. I think he actually felt stupid for saying Norman ran 43.1.

@@Mk4_Jetta it all started in my youth; my mentor taught me how to hone in on my senses. The training was rough, the days were cruel, the nights worse. There were days where my reason why, my end goal, was shrouded by the sweet relief of letting it go. With my will tested and my mentors guidance, I learned to not only suppress those urges, but embrace it. Every fall became a lesson, an insight, a chance to improve and refine. I finally emerged with skills to hone in on my tools absent sight. Hone in on the jack with a gracefull swab of my index finger, and merge two devices making one far greater than the sum of it's parts. My hearing amplified, my gaze entranced , I honed in on this, the mating call of a soft damsel wooed of her feet. The sweet serenading voice of a lovely, lonely siren. The lustful, intense roar of a lioness in heat. It was then that I had to tell the world of my discovery. All my training lead to this moment. The broken tools, the sleepless nights, the grueling days, the sheer agony, all led to this very moment. In this comment above I transfer to you. My knowledge, my insights, my wisdom. Go forth and tell tale of this information. Be well my friend TL:DR: I was watching to this with some head phones and heard it.

Yes, he ran history's second fasted 4x400m relay split in a college meet. Other people close to that time needed the World and Olympic finals to get to that velocity. If you put the college boy 43.06 on the Olympic starting line for the 400m!!! I think you get sub-43:00 out of the starting blocks. If he remains uninjured, then he goes under 43:00 at the 2020 Olympic Trials and again at the Tokyo Olympics, and brings it again for the relay. That kid, he is a kid, is relaxed and confident and evidently in good hands. Perfect situation looking at NCAAs and Tokyo 2020

It's good to see our future performing so well in a non WC/Olympic year! Between Lyles, Norman, Coleman and now Ronnie Baker we're looking pretty damned good going into 19 and 20. We need Fred Kerley to continue to come along in the 400 to solidify our team and return us to dominance. After his 43.70, which I saw him run here in Austin, he's struggled a bit on the big stage. Perhaps Wil London will open as the leadoff leg, LaShawn Merritt can go out a champion running the second leg, Fred Kerley the third leg and Michael Norman the anchor!

He should’ve ran a 42.85. Here’s why: He was in lane 2 for about 1/4-1/3 of the race, and lane 2 around the track is roughly 7 meters more, so we’ll say 2/7 of the race was in lane 2, and he ran about 402 meters. that 43.06 pace for 402 meters is actually 43.06(400/402)=42.85 at 400m that’s ridiculous. He would have run a 42.85 had he not been held up.

@@maxlevine5728 Your calculations were impressive. My point is 4x400 relay carry times are seductively deceiving. You also have the problem of determining the actual distance covered depending on where the stick was taken. I ran track for 6 years and was always told the 1st leg is the only one that can produce a time comparable to an open 400 from the blocks and even that has the problem of where the stick is exchanged -- early in the zone or late.

Jacie LaCour: You're correct. That was Ford (who did his best but was the weakest link ) on the third leg. However, I blame the coaches for this as they underestimated Texas A&M because of Mylik Kerley not running because of an injury. Based solely on pure athletic ability, the lineup in this race should've been: Ford, Norman, Benjamin, then Shinnick. Next month in Eugene, the order must change again to maximize abilities there.

  • @RN-DNP

    @RN-DNP

    6 жыл бұрын

Lamar Murray: I slightly disagree. Texas A&M and Florida are the double threats to USC and the NCAA 4x400 title. But Mylik Kerley is injured and may not run. So the Trojans will need to play chicken in Eugene next month to maximize each athlete's ability. That means running the faster runners first making the others tie up with their muscles burning with lactic acid in trying to catch them. It's a tried and proven strategy that works. The lineup order should be: Benjamin, Norman, Shinnick, and Morgan. In my opinion, it's the best possible scenario. I think Benjamin is capable of running a low 44 leadoff leg. Norman can blast the second leg (with another low sub 44) and set up Shinnick to at least maintain. Morgan is at least a second faster than Ford in the 400m so, look for a sub 3:00 time for the winner. I wouldn't be surprised if the collegiate record is broken.

Bruh It's Junior: Zachary has had a pretty good freshman year despite the fact that he's been overshadowed by the likes of Norman and Benjamin. Moreover, it can be challenging balancing the athletics and the books, but it appears that he came through unscathed. Meanwhile, if he and Morgan can run a mid to low 45 in Eugene, then the 4x4 title is theirs granted if the other participants play their roles.

Thinks about it. Norman closes the huge gap between the handover to the final turn. Then he pulls up, takes it down a couple of notches on the curve. Off the curve he opens up again to overtake the leader runner on the final straightaway. His cursing speed on the curve is simply flying. After easing up on the curve and he still runs a 43.1. I would have loved to have seen that one in person. Speechless.... No words for that. None.

USC coaching staff and coach Watts are careful in not running him too much through the season. Even look at NCAA's. He's #1 in the 200m right now but they know if they let him run that then he'd be too exhausted through the rounds. @@raymondgreenwood1 See, the thing, you keep your alternates in cold storage, so they don't pull a hammy. But make sure you input the athlete's weight correctly on the microwave defrost cycle, or he might run a 48.

Many athletes wan to go to a school where they will occasionally come across the line in 1st or 2nd...or 5th or whatever. If you USC didn't have Rai Benjamin, he transferred from UCLA. Many programs experience flux over the years.

I think Michaels most realest competition is *CHRISTOPHER TAYLOR👌* NO doubt in my mind that these two teenagers will blow up in the near future olympics. Remember me when that happens (:

I don't get how Chris Taylor is mentioned in the same breath - he is well behind but gets PR Jamaica points. I also don't understand everybody downplaying Norman - he is just getting started, and has excellent numbers especially given the few races he has run at the collegiate level.

lol yeah he literally has all 4 collegiate records in his events (400m, 4x400m for indoors/outdoors) as a SOPHOMORE. He's walked the talk, haters will hate at this point because they have nothing better to do.
