Michael Jordan vs Seattle Supersonics defense 1996 NBA Finals

Спорт

Michael Jordan was past his athletic peak, he came into the series hobbled with various injuries, and the Seattle Supersonics are one of the most under rated defenses in NBA history, but Michael Jordan still managed to will the Chicago Bulls to the NBA Championship.

Shawn Kemp was such a athletic super freak, every bit the freaky athlete as LeBron James of today, though without the ball handling skills, but kids today would rather imagine the 90s were somehow devoid of these types of players. This Supersonics team was pretty amazing.

dude i love your videos. i always knew jordan was good but u make it obvious why he was good. They double team off ball and refs were not heavy on the foul calling like today. loving these videos. nobody can even come close to what he has done

Great video Bruce. Again you show why Michael Jordan truly is the greatest. In today's NBA he would smash everyone.

You're right about that. Many people forget Michael was bothered by his bad back & knees during the 96 Finals. He didn't shoot well that series, faced a great defense & still won MVP while leading the Bulls to a 6th game victory on Fathers Day.

This is unbelievable footage. I'm having such a tough time fighting off double teams at my local open gym. Imagine how tough it's gotta feel at this level against a 64 game winning team.

I like this video. My only problem is some of your pointed out double and triple teams away from the ball are flawed.

Shawn Kemp had 12 total Blocks in 6 games of the 1996 Finals compared to Shaq's 16 Blocks in the 2000 Finals in 6 Games and Shaq is 7'1'' and Kemps is 6'10'' and that's just a 4 block differential from Shaq so Kemp was real the dominant center for this Sonics teams because he had the defensive presence in the paint that Ervin Johnson didn't have. So people can't say that Jordan never defeated a team that had no dominant big man or dominant Forward/Center because they have in 1996

@theAIRJORDANblitz It's crazy how physical the game was back then and even more so in the 80s with Bird and Magic. A ref toots his whistle over the smallest shit these days. They let Michael and a great defensive player Payton go at it under the boards, almost wrestling under the boards. The NFL is flag happy too, it sucks. I miss 90s sports with contact. The Refs sucks these days and Kobe gets so many ticky tack calls and his FG% sucks. He will never be in the same sentence as God MJ.

@SkywarpMach7 That Sonics team was good tho with Payton, Kemp, Perkins, Hawkins, Schrempf. But to say MJ got locked down when he was averaging 30ppg is absurd. Also: MJ is already way past his athletic prime & most basketball players above 32 are considered old as they are not supposed to be able to compete as physically as they used to.Most retire by age 35 unless they are still trying to get a ring (Many Hall of Famers didnt get the ring because of MJ & his Bulls). Hakeem got 2 when Mj left

First of all Jordan was past his prime and hobbled with injuries here. Still the sonics are one of the most underrated defenses ever and had a great overall team defense on Jordan in the finals although I think Payton gets too much credit Jordan was 3/4 against payton in game 6 and shot 50% in game 5 so game 4 is the only game payton shut down Jordan. Also in the very next game after the finals george karl put Payton on Jordan and got destroyed for 45 points on 68%. Jordan was 7/11 with 18 points 2 offensive rebounds and 3 assists against Payton. Also missed a wide open three and faked payton out of his shoes but missed the wide open layup. So Payton really only forced one miss from jordan that game. It was so bad that Jordan mercifully didn't shoot the ball the rest of the game with 5 and a half mins left with the Bulls up by 20. So basically what I'm trying to say is that payton is not the Jordan stoppe

+Young Rain Payton never guarded Jordan one on one in the 96 finals. He was just the primary defender but they were double and triple teaming him all the time...as every team did throughout his entire career. But I agree with most of what you said. Jordan got injured in the first round, which forced him to leave game 2 in the middle of a great performance. The heat were also a great defensive team.
