Michael Jordan shootout with John Starks 54 points vs New York Knicks

Спорт

Coming into this game, the Chicago Bulls were down 2-1 to the N.Y. Knickerbockers. Magic Johnson stated during the 92 playoffs/finals that it's very hard to even make it to the Finals, he said it's even harder to win in the Finals, and he said it's nearly impossible to repeat a championship. Well, the Bulls were working on their 3 peat here in the 1993 NBA playoffs. The big problem is they ran into a road block that I like to call the Terminator Knicks. The Knicks were a very physical team and were talented from top to bottom.
Michael Jordan really needed to step up big in game 4 but there was one problem. Michael Jordan had a badly injured wrist and a huge lump on his wrist from the injury. Many were questioning if Jordan would be able to shoot well with this injury he was dealing with.
Michael Jordan was soon to put on the Superman cape, as he had many times before, and he broke the NBA record for most points scored against the Knicks in the playoffs by dropping 54 points on them. Michael Jordan got into foul trouble, and when he picked up his 5th foul he sat out part of the 4th quarter. Jordan would have broke 60 if he didn't pick up that 5th foul.
Michael Jordan usually let the game come to him and took his shots in the flow of the team offense. In this game Jordan came out to prove a point. Earlier in the series Jordan and Starks got into a verbal fight and Jordan wanted to come to blows with Starks. The Jordan vs Starks rivalry was heated, they hated each other.
In this game Phil Jackson didn't need to do much coaching because Michael Jordan took the basketball and owned this game. He played his opponents like they were puppets. Mike was unstoppable.
Michael Jordan's sidekick, Scottie Pippen, shot 4-14 in this crucial game so clearly Jordan was a man alone on an island in this one and you are about to witness a performance as close to supernatural as it gets on the basketball court. Enjoy!

thank you!!!! those were my knicks out there and i hated the bulls and jordan back then. but as the years went by i realized even more what a great entertaining series that was. if anybody says that 90's defense is not as good as nowadays they need to feel an oakley or mason pick lol. damn michael why you had to rob ewing of his ring :( but MJ is the G.O.A.T.

Wow! I remember watching this game live on TV. As a Bulls fan, we HAD to win this game! Against the toughest D you are ever likely to see, Jordan had a game for the ages, to those fools who say the D was not as tough in the 90's as it is now, they obviously weren't watching in the 90's, they are just homers for Kobe and the like. Nice work Bruce,as always! We must educate!!

Ya great call good to hear this from you. Jordan was just unreal this game i remember even as a kid watching it as a chicagoian i was like how is he doing this. By the way closest thing to mason now adays is Ron artest im sure you might agree. Jordan was just lights out and was so mentally into this game it was insane. As a sports fan and as a hardcore bulls fan i was privilaged to see that man gracy the court. UNREAL.

Yeah, well we didn't have true HD when Jordan played so that sucks. One thing is for sure, the coverage and camera angles of the game of basketball has come a long long way.

I don't see any rivalries/matchups in todays NBA that are this intense - Maybe ORLANDO AND CLEVLAND can get it BUT the KNICKS/BULLS 90's left it ALL on the court. I miss those games -

Remember 94 in the game 7 where Starks gave away the champ to the Rockets. His bad game handed them the champ

Oh well, you just feed them facts that they didn't already know despite what they may think about it. When they accept that you are teaching them, and not attacking them, they will come to the understanding that you are just a very smart fan.

He had 45 pts but it was a 8 pt game after 3 qtrs. They did double team a few times but with the wrong guy it seemed since Ewing is the slowest guy on the team.

He kept up with mj for the first half though, but after that he lit him up. Please note that Mj only had 1 layup in this game nor did he live at the free throw line like a lot of current players do to reach 50 ( wade, lebron, kobe)

MJ and Reggie they killed the knicks not only in the regular season but also in the playoffs where it counted. Lebron and Kobe well, its not their fault that the knicks suck ass right now

The defense being played on the perimeter in this game, under the rules of today, would result in a bout 10 consecutive fouls called LOL!!

From 9:17 - 9:20... I just busted out laughing for some reason. The Commentator: "He has 50" referring to his Airness of course... ...Meanwhile, the camera focuses of John Starks running back down the floor. Truth be told, Mr. Starks was pretty guarding MJ the whole time. I mean I own a few things in this life I lead.... car... TV... some sneakers..., but I don't own any of those things like MJ owns John Starks.

The defense played there is too intense, Kobe would of gotten maybe 20 to 25 points with that kinda defense...maybe 30 and that's maybe. That's a the similar defense that Boston played on him just Boston was a whole lot less physical and no to mention there were no hand check or 3 second rule...so you factor that in and you're looking at him scoring in the 20's max.
