Michael Haneke - My Life (2009/Arte)

Фильм және анимация

Michael Haneke, 67, is certainly one of the most important directors of our time. His films about violence and existential human fears are a continuous and almost scientific research about western civilization. Born and raised near Vienna, Haneke grew up as the son of actors and stems from a bourgeois and privileged background. For this intriguing profile Haneke opens - for the first time ever - his universe. The director not only returns to the places of his childhood and youth but he also invites us to join him during the production of his latest film, THE WHITE RIBBON, which won the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival and an Oscar nomination in 2010. Actors such as Isabelle Huppert and Juliette Binoche talk about their work with Michael Haneke.

In a certain way, he is Ingmar Bergman's heir in entering the psychology of our fears. But unlike Bergman, he goes a step further and makes his movies into a sociological event. He borders sociology and anthropology; social sciences,, history, psychology all in one art form.

Haneke is my most favourite film director EVER. He didn't make a single movie that's not worth watching dozens of times.

It's amazing how it's possible for me to relate with a person that is so much older than me and it's from a totally different culture. That's what Art can do.

Same. As a middle class 26 year old living in a third world country under a dictatorship (Burma), I feel the same.

Brilliant man, perfectionist. The best Directors open up your mind and feed you bits at a time and leave an unsatisfied hunger. Haneke and Hitchcock have both enriched my life.

49:20 " I dont believe work of art changes society or an individual" i don't understand how can he, as an artist, say that.

Maybe it can change an invidual for a specific time of his life but it will never change the society. After so many years the society is still terrible and no one has learned anything from art.
