As expected, this is brilliant. I have had the great fortune of living on the Big Island of Hawaii for 13 years with my husband and our 23 year-old daughter. (23? No way! Way. It goes by really fast. : ) The first 5 years we were here, I was a bartender on the "main drag" in the most "touristy" part of the island. I always played music to "control the vibe" when I was behind the bar. My go-to Pandora station began with Michael Franti and Spearhead, but it could go in a million different directions because I spent a couple of years "developing" it with thumbs up or down. Sometimes, it stayed pretty small and tight, like, say, Jack Johnson, Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, Bob and Ziggy Marley, stuff like that. But other days, it would branch out far and wide from, say, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Louie Prima, Nina Simone, Aretha, Billie Holiday, The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Bill Withers, and others on the "old school" hand to, say, Milky Chance, Tupac, 50 Cent, Biggie, John Mayer, Coldplay, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Green Day, Daft Punk, and other "new" groups on the other. If I detected any weird vibes in the room, I immediately went to Michael Franti and a bottle of bubbles that I always carried in my pocket. In my experience, it is impossible to continue being an A**hole if Michael Franti is playing, and the bartender just blew bubbles in your face. Hah! Worked like a charm every time. : ) Anyway, thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing so much joy to myself and countless others over the years. I appreciate you and what you do more than I could ever adequately express in words, despite being a retired teacher of English Literature and Academic Writing. Oh, and congratulations on your beautiful family. Children grow up so quickly. Our daughter Lily lives in Wailuku, Maui now with her boyfriend, but that is OK. I tell her that on clear days, we can see her and Brian from our place in Kealakekua of "little grass shack" fame. Take care. Mahalo and Aloha. : )
