Look closely at Saito's drift angle and line at 4:00, it was obviously a win for Essa. But I agree with you that the announcer has gone too far by announcing the winner straight away before the race was even completed.

Formula D uses computers and proximity sensors too (proximity sensors only used in night events I believe). Tsuchiya's events are in the day time and usually have a good veiw of the clipping points. When they don't, they have flaggers placed around the track who will give the white flag for not so good and the checkered flag for perfect. And since the cars in D1GP are usually never over 500HP they can usually tell by the tire smoke if you're on the foot brake.

serieusly, that's lame, just like that drift event set up by mad max, with the computers and sensor's to calculate a score, never heard of Keiichi Tsuchiya using that shit in the d1gp to judge the drifters.
