Jeremiah Wright speaks truth from the depth of pain in the African American experience. As a white guy attending services at Trinity in 2000 I understood that and had no problems at all sitting there laughing with, crying, reflecting, offering and most of all singing. It was the best church experience I ever had. It is true that persons of mainstream and regional cultures act and talk out of ignorance and arrogance. We were raised in love, but arrogant and ignorant of truth around us and in us. Education, travel and reading have been the tools of Christ that have broken me out. Now I am free to feel and see and breathe the deep drafts of reality. It was worth losing my roots in order to find them in another place. Rev. Wright is for me a memory...a rest stop on my journey...a brother in struggle.

Whether you like what Jeremiah Wright said or not isn't important. What is important is the Jeremiah Wright was bringing up the struggles and injustices of black people in America. There's a reason why you don't see a lot of black people get chocked up or have emotions when a police officer is killed in the line of duty, or when a service dies in action, or simple isn't emotional when they see the American Flag or yellow ribbons. Reverend Wright was accurate when he said that white people shouldn't expect black people to sing "God Bless America" or Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" when black people have not gotten the same things white people have.

When I was 10, I was told the story about the demise of the Narragansett Indian tribe. This man of 75 told Me how His Mother and Father were killed in front of Him when He was just a boy like Me. He told Me how they cut off His Hair, burned His cloths and renamed Him " Fortunate Frank Dupuis" This story didn't come from a book or movie, it came from a human being that got no Christmas or Birthday cards from His side of the Family. A Man that had no relatives from His side of the family at the weddings of His Children and no relatives from His side of the family at family picnics. Just imagine how that feels, how lonely that must have made Him, to have no one there for Him, from the age of 10. I knew Fortunate Frank very well, He was my Stepmother's Father. His story left a mark on Me, a very large mark. So much so that I'm one hundred-percent against the death penalty, not because of the criminals life, but because of the criminals Family and their feelings.

Thank goodness that the professor is hear to help America through her massive pervasive ignorance. The Reverend Wright absolutely has a right to his opinion and to use hyperbole to express it, but people do still have some small right to react to it. And it is just a little bit presumptive to conflate any disagreement or raised eyebrows with the ignorance of narrow mindedness and living sheltered lives. I have listened to numerous monologues by Dyson now and have yet to hear his policy prescriptions.

Paul Russomanno sorry wrong answer. The minister isn't expounding upon political views. The minister is expounding on religious text based on moral implications coming straight out of the Bible. If you read the Bible, you will see a constant subtext of prophets, and ministers, that criticize the people and the governments that act outside of God's law. Thus, the minister isn't expounding up on political views, he is using the religious text based to demonstrate how far as a nation we are we are away from God. If you read the Bible, then you understand the moral requirements the nations must follow. If any nation sins against God then God will damn that nation. In the past God routinely has punished nations that murdered enslaved and destroyed innocent people. This is nothing new.

Really? How are they different? marriages recognized by the state should be different from those performed by the church. Yet those who want a more theist government are the only ones that disagree, which is the exact reason we have a separation of church and state. It was also a transgression in the south to engage in interracial marriage.

I beg to differ. He broke down the fundamental barriers of America's so called melting pot by stating the facts... the facts are that people of color, Caucasians, Latinos, and so forth fellowship differently and completely separate, in many cases. In fact, that's part of the segregation that's made it merely impossible for people of all nationalities to truly understand each other. Until we sit down and unbiasedly try to find remedies for problems together, things will always be lopsided.

Honestly, the root of the issue at hand is that people are distinguishin different 'races'. We all one human race with a plethora of different ethnicities, nationalities, creeds, cultures, and religions. If we united, the world itself would immediately end with its turmoil and that's where world peace would be achieved.

Interesting that at 8:55 Dyson says America must "heal," but then corrects himself and says "heed and yield," to these prophetic voices. That for me reveals the exact divide today. Some wish to move on from the sins of the past and begin the healing process and others like Dyson want to keep the sins of the past alive until America "heeds and yields," i.e., pays for them as the chickens come home to roost, which I guess means the total destruction of America as hoped for by Malcolm X* and which finally began on 9/11. I ask you, which view is the more loving ... which view is the more Christian? Which view moves us forward and which view keeps generation after generation mired in hate? *"God's Judgment of White America (The Chickens Come Home to Roost)" - Dec 4, 1963.

I disagree. UNITY in this case, is the enemy of separatism. The world, this country is far too diverse for any of us to believe that excommunication from every other ethnicity is the answer. Btw, the term "people of color" is applicable for anyone of African descent. Caucasians aren't 'people of color'... that is of course, we factor in the 'one drop' rule, in certain situations. Back to the matter at hand, separatism is not the answer.

we arent even entitled to an opinion, see how its wrong to be aware? As soon as a black person has an opinion, its racist, as soon as a white man has an opinion, its usually them giving someone permission on how to think! Thats like someone beat yo ass and then tell you how to feel afterwards? "Dont hurt this way, dont hold grudges let me keep beatin yo ass and remain unaware of this beatin' I'm givin you" And black people dumb too because "white people" aren't the problem because they dont pay the police force! No white or black person's opinion toward me can hold me back only the one i have about myself, all ignorance is learned behavior

You can if you are not Christian, but if you follow Jesus, you have to follow His and His disciples rules. Unlike what most Americans believe today, morals are not relative. That is the reason He took the time to have them written down way back when. Even though people today try to say that we do not have the original text or its meaning, we do. Just like laws that are meant for all in the land they are written for, not just for those that find them relevant...

I don't believe the True Christian church which includes ALL people's (including BLACK people) and of which is defined by those who adhere to correct Biblical theology, would even want to have Jeremiah Wright aligned with them. So sir, you've just insulted the Elect of God. But you can keep "Rev." Wright for yourself.

The black church is full of preachers just like Rev Wright he is accepted cause he ministers from the black perspective cause he's black...he's been preaching about God foryears..Obama knows he is a good man and we love him....he's alright with black folk.

  • @bxbluesofficial

Well, that's my point my friend... It's not and shouldn't ever be about "being black". It's about the Truth. The Truth knows no color or ethnicity. The Truth is what we should ALL seek out, and when we do, we find ourselves in the SAME church. And since, "The Church" is defined (Biblically) as the people of God. Mr. Wright isn't wrong because he's Black, he's wrong because his theology is all jacked up. :)

Mr. Dyson is correct on how these cultural distinctions come about BUT I think he's failing to see the more important issue. What makes Wright wrong is not b/c of these cultural distinctions but more b/c the man is more lead by his fervor of controversy by His bad theology than because he's black. Bad theology will do that to ya.

+Notorious B.I.Z. Show me in the Bible where it is a pastor's responsibility to give a voluntary and editorialized status report of a certain race of people. Show me where that is. That's #1. #2 is that if you saw actual, legalistic racism, you would be mortified. A black man, orders a sandwich at a deli, the manager then asks the black man to stand outside and wait for his food...because he is not allowed to stand and wait with the white people inside. Stand outside. Like a dog. That is legalistic racism. We do not have those standards anymore in America. Get real dude.
