Many should have more respect for a recent statue of him on the Grand Parade in Cork, acting so stupid the way a photo is taken. The way some act so foolish and so disrespectful for what would be called a founding father of the country, I've never known a place to show such disregard especially to an iconic historic person, apart from that time in 2020 with Churchill, Victoria and other slave owners, but when it comes to a very important iconic figure, haven't seen the majority of other countries do what certain ones see no issue to do.

Every once in a while there comes a man in a million, Michael Collins was such a man. He got the best deal from the brits that was realistically possible, but which set the stage for the next step. Unfortunately he never reached that step through being robbed of his life. Collins and Pearse would be called nazi's and terrorists by the msm today and would be cancelled immediately after giving their first speech or writing their first article. Pearse especially would be considered a national socialists by most standards today. Ireland was a thing that existed between 1920 and 2020 because of these men. It has since ceased to exist as a nation because of marxists in the EU and within our own borders.

What struck me most about visiting Glasnevin last year ( courtesy of my Dublin cousins) was the contrast between the graves of Collins and de Valera. That of Collins being in effect a national shrine whereas that of Dev being a minor epitaph inscribed “Eamon”. I wonder how many years of regret had Dev for precipitating a civil war and causing such catastrophic damage to Ireland and the assassination of its greatest leader. 🤔

What he achieved no other dominion in the British empire had and it paved the way for the politicians to gradually erode the attachment of Ireland to Britain peacefully, from 1926 the abolishment of the oath of allegiance to the British monarchy to neutrality in ww2 until the full republic in 1949. None of these things would have been possible if Michael hadn't done what he done. If he refused the British Offer we'd be still part of the United kingdom and probably a third world country because the British would have crushed us and when they were finished doing that drained the country completely of an economy.

My maternal grandfather who was a Sergeant Maj.in the free state army once told me his platoon was but six miles from Beal na Blath the day Michael Collins was shot. That was circa sixty six years ago and amazingly that same day, happened to be his birthday, he also mentioned, same day, the name of the man who fired that fatal shot and not many years ago I discovered he had got the name of this individual correct and have since wondered how he could have known. He was a Sergeant in the Connaught rangers and was at the battle of Mons and survived the first world war, two of his brothers did not. The only item that I have belonging to him is a little bible that he carried in his rough sack throughout W.W.1 and also throughout the Irish civil war, he was stationed in Cork during this time.

The man was a politician, a banker, an accountant as well as a military commander who died at the age of 31. You have no idea how he would have turned out nor what he would have thought of you. So man up, stop trying to speak for the dead and at least own your own ideas!

Truly great man. With the benefit of hindsight now, he was tragically placed in a position where many would consider him a traitor to the cause and his comrades, but realistically, at the time, was probably what would be considered the lesser evil of a choice out of several horrible options. Truly sad to see the vitriol people still speak of him with, but truly a testament to his character and him as a man that people, to this day, remain so passionate about him, whether they see him as a hero or as a traitor. GRMA as always for uploading this, Davy

He was so accomplished in terms of military intelligence, that's why I found the stupidity of his death so inexplicable - he chose to get out of an armoured car when being fired on from an elevated position and was therefore shot when exposed to fire at an obvious ambush site on a route he/ his people chose. It was a betrayal of his service but was also a poor/ unwise reaction in adverse circumstances. I had the pleasure of meeting Liam Neeson and Julia Roberts ( lovely normal people) when they filmed his biopic in Dublin in the 90s.
