Micah Drives a 2020 Kia Soul GT-Line
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Thanks to my day job at Kelley Blue Book, I drive a lot of cars. In this video I’m driving the all-new 2020 Kia Soul GT-Line. FYI, the GT-Line is the “sporty” Soul trim. There’s also a standard Soul, an electric Soul EV, and an X-Line trim covered in rugged but useless body cladding, none of which are driven in this review. Sorry. This particular car has the optional 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. With 201-horsepower, the 1.6 turbo offers a notable performance bump versus the 147-horsepower 2.0-liter found in all other trims. In this video I check out the 2020 Soul’s interior, exterior, and road manners. Oh, and major apologies about the wind noise in the beginning. It was windy as hell! And just so the premise is ultra-clear, this is not a comprehensive review but rather a casual look at the 2020 Kia Soul, while living my normal life. Simple. Fun!

As someone who lived in Yuma for almost 8 years, I can tell y'all that Julian, CA, is a respite from the endless desert. I would often drive up there in my 2010 KIA Soul Sport just to get an Apple Pie and bring it back with me. It's a pretty cool driving loop too. One can take Ogilby Road (S34) north from Interstate 8, just west of the State line. That'll take you to CA Highway 78. Take that west to where it merges with the 86, but then turn west again right after the Border Patrol Checkpoint and that'll take you to Julian, via Anza-Borrego State Park. Once in Julian, with Pie secured (also don't forget there is a second pie company in Julian called "Mom's"), one could take the CA Highway 79 straight south back to Interstate 8, but I prefer to stay on the 78 west to Ramona. Once at Ramona, then head south on CA Highway 67 to Lakeside and Santee. There's a sushi place called "Okawa's" in Santee, which is very much worth the stop. Great review Micah. It brought back a lot of memories. I've still got that same Soul with 101,000 miles on it and now that the warranty is up, I am looking at this 2020 model with a cheating man's set of eyes. I do wish they had made a Trailster version however, since it is riding on the Hyundai Kona platform.
Micah, I’ve been watching your videos for a while, you’re an animated character. Wow, the Savage actually commented on your production, what an honor. I like the Soul, very practical and affordable for everyday folks. Keep up the good work and hope to see your production evolves like Redline, Alex, and the Savage.

Micah Great little ride on the cheap :) I have a friend/customer who is 90 years young and loves his Bright Green Soul. I can’t help but giggle every time he pulls in. I don’t know if you’re worthy yet but I will point you to a huge upgrade. I was once a Chap Stick Guy for decades and always had it on me like it was part of me. Then I tried Blistex and couldn’t believe how long it lasted and only had to apply 2 times a day and only because I shave after work and re shower. Yes, i know it’s more money. But I go through 1 a year. Oh and BTW I like the wheels on the lower grade Soul, over the GT Soul. Leave a comment if you agree or disagree. ;)

Love watching your vids - I can never get enough puns and dad jokes ;) As for the new Soul, I personally love it. I think one can only expect so much from a box on wheels in terms of handling. The EV model should be the best of the breed in this regard thanks to a much lower center of gravity and IRS.
When I first saw pictures of the new Soul I didn’t love it, but having seen it in person at the Toronto auto show and seeing more and more pics, I actually really like it, I hope they decide to bring back the pano sunroof though.

This car is so good looking . I have a 2016 soul and love it ! I would totally buy this car .
My sister has a 2014 Soul, they're really great cars! I wish Honda still made the Element, a new version would be awesome to compete with the Soul too.
Kia have come a long way. I like where they are going! 👍🇦🇺
Nice trip with the Heli!!! 👍😎
I love my yellow 2015 Soul Exclaim. I cant wait for this GT release. The "nose" looks like a Star Wars Tie-Fighter and a Soul had a love child - angry and cute at the same time. I want another yellow one!

I'm 70, and the S trim is my third Soul. There's great value and features that make this compact stand out besides ease getting in and out. Road test one before you buy something in this category. You'll be impressed with the quality, functionality, and price many thousands lower than their competitors. Old Hamsters are as wise as owls.
This video need some KBB!
I am currently shopping the compact and sub compact suv lines these days and this is the first Soul that I don't hate.
Kia was smart to increase the cargo area because this is what the Soul needed since the first generation.
I really appreciate your comments about being able to drive with both arms on arm rests. Every car should be designed for that.
“Oooh, a puddle!” Made me laugh.
Even his majesty HM Savageggeese seems to enjoy your work! I like the video even if the horne didn't sound as it should be confident and secure.
We spent a lot of time looking at this at the Toronto auto show. The cargo space is a huge selling point now.
This latest generation Soul is my favorite looking
The front of the soul in white looks like a storm trooper rather than a hamster mobile😂😂😂

I Love It!! I have a Yellow 2014 KIA Soul. I want the new 2020 GT soul white one!
I like the look of it!
You should review the Elantra GT N Line. Curious at how much handling has improved over the GT Sport.
The base trim in my sister's 15' had actually quite a lot of soft materials!
I got a 2012 Soul+ brand new. It has been extremely dependable. Only been in the shop for the steering gear recall, which they fixed. I'm torn between the GT-line and the E-Soul.
You're good at what you do man. You had to show that helicopter off tho didn't ya 🚁😂
Start stop test ( 8.38) summed it up for me. I have been asking this question to other KZread reviewers but none responded. Thanks @Micah Muzio. Good job. I really like Soul but the dual clutch transmission and turbo lag is preventing me to make a purchase. 👍
@MicahMuzio
5 жыл бұрын
A Sam Remember, the dual-clutch only comes with the 1.6-liter and that’s only offered on the GT-Line. So odds are whichever Soul you buy will have the 2.0-liter with Kia’s CVT, which is actually very good.
@atharsami
5 жыл бұрын
@@MicahMuzio I agree 2.0 ltr +cvt is a good combination for the soul. I was intrigued by 1.6ltr turbo because it makes more power, therefore should be more fun to drive theoretically. 👍

A Sam You’re right. The 1.6 is more fun but for most buyers the 2.0 with CVT works great.
Micah, i had a Kia soul a few yrs ago. It was paid off.. it was an Awesome lil suv.. had it for 6 yrs.. should have held onto it...😕 i like the GT model..👍
I love the Kia Soul. I have the 2014 model and I love it.
You can see my only disappointment with the new Soul here 4:18 , they got rid of the panoramic sunroof! Man the 2nd gen just seemed so open and full of light with that.
Love that!
It's like a sleepy Storm Trooper. I wished they offered the turbo in cheaper trims with stick as an option. Still a very nice box on wheels.
Sorry I am a bit late to the party, but I like the Kia Soul. No, I don't own one, but we rented the 2nd Gen Soul just as the 3rd Gen was being released. We were very impressed with the packaging and even the power from the base motor around town. The 3rd Gen looks great! Micah, one thing that bothers me is that you displayed the price for an LX manual for $18,485 and the GT-Line 1.6L for exactly $10K more. Oof! That's a hefty gap. Do you really think the GT-Line is worth that much more? Your review made me think that the GT-Line isn't very special. Anyway, nice review (as always) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ You're welcome 😄
Hi Micah Great job as Usual. You should come to Buffalo and do a snow video in an awd car.

New York That’d be fun! Sadly not much snow here in LA.
Interesting that MIcah mentioned the broad demographic appeal of the Soul. Corresponds to my experience and that of my local KIA dealer. Here in the Seattle/Tacoma area I see everyone from hipster millennials to rapidly aging boomers tooling around in Souls. My snail mail person uses one for our semi-rural delivery and is crazy about it. And the local KIA dealer is, as well. They sell them about as fast as they're unloaded in the lot.I think they could install a vending machine in the showroom and eliminate a salesperson. In view of that I've been puzzled by the demise of the Soul's competitors (Honda Element, Nissan Cube, etc.) Apparently rodents are especially powerful marketing tools. The expansion of the trims for the third generation is not surprising. The Hyundai/KIA conglomerate is very good at slicing market segments both between and within their brands to appeal to a variety of sub-segments with distinct but almost identical vehicles under the skin. (Hyundai Santa Fe vs Kia Sorento; Kia Stinger vs Genesis G70; Palisade vs Telluride.) KIA is slicing the segments in a way that covers the broad demographic appeal of the Soul. As far as the GT Line is concerned I'm not tempted to give up my GTI for a Soul GT but for those who want more pep in their Soul, it's an appealing alternative. KIA might have added an AWD option but for the Soul's intended mission a good set of winter tires and the weight of the engine over the front wheels is adequate for all but those trying to survive truly challenging winters. Furthermore, I suspect that KIA didn't want to complicate the design of Soul EV by adding AWD. And the big news is the forthcoming extended range Soul EV. With a range of about 250 miles it transforms the EV from an urban commuter to a car that can be used for the 100-120 mile round trip commutes that are relatively common around here without daily range anxiety. Tesla offers that, of course, but at nowhere near the price of the 64KW extended range vehicles from Hyundai and KIA.
@EONEILL1987

now the question is, how much will the EV Soul go for? I've been waiting years for the long range version of the Soul to become available.

When you did that swift pan around 16:15 it looked like a bunch of Uruses. Not liking the wheel to body ratio on this new Soul, but I also appreciate the abundance of glass.
Micah, I am also VERY sensitive to dual-clutch shudder when trying to creep along in traffic or gently leave a stoplight. My Audi A3 and Jetta TDI were both horrific with DSG chatter/shudder/hesitation when driven gently. I'll take a smooth CVT anyday.

Yeah, DCT's don't really like slow traffic crawling. It can cause the clutch plates to wear out faster. I'm with ya though, would take a CVT over a dry clutch DCT look on this Soul any day.

Good vid
It's too bad the US doesn't get the EX Turbo Premium like in Canada. It comes with heated and cooled seats. I rented a 2021 Kia Soul S for a extended business trip. The 2.0L is more than adequate for the vehicle and the iVt is probably one of the best CVT transmissions I've driven. It returned 35mpg on the highway at 70mph.
hey guys can Kia Soul like this handle like Albertan , Canada type of winter?
Hi Micah or anyone reading, how has the box shape affect fuel economy? I'm thinking of trading in a 2nd generation Forte5 for the new Soul. Fuel economy has been atrocious in the Forte I have which is the same 1.6 turbo. I think driving a Soul I'd be less inclined to mash the pedal for fear of looking oddly out of place. It looks like an appropriate 'upgrade' for someone wanting to be a little more mature and grown up.
Which is better in terms of durability and sound insulation, Kia Soul or Kia Forte
Damn good daily driver .
