Miata Build: EcoTec Swap, What to Expect...

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I wanted to go over some things that have to do with the EcoTec Miata swap. Either the 2.2 L61 or the 2.4 LE5 swaps are possible. With the 2.4L you gain the same type of power as a Turbo 1.8L Miata, without boost leaks, lag and a full standalone.

Thanks man, pretty happy to have it on the road. The L61 is definitely a nice improvement. Feels similar, but way more torque than the turbo'd 1.6 I had in before. The LE5 must feel ridiculous, or the LEA.

I’d love to see more videos about the process (May be too late if you don’t have the footage by now, lol). I’m looking for a project car and I like the idea of a Miata but I’m not certain I could handle an engine swap as I don’t have much experience working on car engines.

I have a 2003 chevy cavalier with a very healthy motor in it. I am considering keeping the car for this swap but I would love to see some more details on how you did it. A video on the wiring and possibly your downpipe issue would be extremely helpful. I'm not familiar with fabrication so any pictures or videos would help immensely.

you can since the engine is newer, you’d just need to throw a catalytic converter on there, i recommend the pontiac Solstice/saturn sky exhaust manifold and catalityc converter be put on there, you could even do the 2.4 turbo that comes in the Solstice GXP/Sky Redline, you’ll just need the emissions components

Don't forget the le5 is a ss sport model only engine. The hhr ss has a 2.0 turbo motor called the lnf 2006-7 cobalt ss have the supercharged lsj motor. The 09-10 base-lt have the LAP motor which is vvt and makes more power and has more tunability over the 05-08 l61s. And 05-06 l61 cars are not tunable unless you pull all ecm components out and use a standalone. I have a 5spd LAP xfe In my cobalt

Appreciate your video man, I was going to go Ecotec, but I ended up choosing J35A4 instead. 240 hp (270 with just a tune) over the Ecotec ~160 and Honda reliability was what sealed the deal for me. I'll be making some videos of the process as I go thru it. I'm intimidated by the swap as well, but hoping I'll have your results/feedback when I'm on the other side!

Thanks for this video. I was about to write off Ecotec when I noticed that their "complete kit" has no exhaust. Conclusion: "complete" is not complete and has potentially time-consuming and expensive surprises ahead. What do you think about vibration through the engine mounts?
