I got a question about Esperanto. How common it is to drop the final -o of nouns in normal speech? I'v seen it in a lot of songs, but I don't know if it's common in normal conversations.

Teniente Ramíres we drop the final "o" if necessary in music and poetry. We are not allowed to do it in conversation.

Mi vidis Aleks-on en la vagonaro

I am taking the Duolingo course, but mi ne fidas min sufiĉe por skribi en Esperanto. It does a good job of teaching the allative meaning of the accusative case ("en la domon" vs "en la domo") but they never have a sentence where the direct-object accusative is more than decorative for people whose native languages have rigid word order. For example, they ask the student to translate "La virino kisas la viron" but never "La viron kisas la virino" or at least not often enough. They may ask the student to translate "Mia onklo aĉetis ĉapelon por si en Parizo" but never anything like "Ĉapelon aĉetis mia onklo por si en Parizo" nor do they have multiple choice where the only correct answer has the direct object in front of the subject. This is the best way to teach the direct-object accusative. They also enforce English word-order rules, most noticeably the one that requires the adverb of time to be at the end of the clause. I found a lesson in which they marked a sentence similar to this one wrong: "Mi iris hieraŭ al Parizo per buso," instead requiring "Mi iris al Parizo per buso hieraŭ."

Well, I think that might be because while Esperanto has a freer word order, it still has a default word order that is very similar to English. Every language has a default word order, even the ones with more order freedom than even Esperanto. Free word order doesn’t mean arbitrary word order. I heard some linguist youtubers say that line and it’s really made me think more critically about languages individually and as a whole.
