Intro: Today, we are going to systematically test the Mi Band 8! This is a super popular smartwatch, since it is really beautiful at a very affordable price point. However, the questions remains, are the health and sports measurements it takes actually any good. In this comprehensive review, my aim is to help you decide if the measurements of the Mi Band 8 are good enough for your specific use case! As we dive into this detailed analysis, we'll be comparing the Mi Band 8 with various accurate reference devices to give you an in-depth understanding of its capabilities. Specifically, we'll be focusing on two key aspects of the smartwatch - heart rate tracking and sleep tracking. These are essential features for fitness enthusiasts and those seeking to improve their overall well-being. So, let's not waste any more time and explore what the Mi Band 8 has in store for you!
Now, before we proceed, I must admit that this turned out to be a more challenging video than I initially anticipated. An international version of the Mi Band 8 was not yet available, at least not one I could find, so I had to get the chinese version. The Chinese and International versions are usually very similar in terms of hardware, but the software has subtle differences. In this case it meant I could not get access to high-frequency heart rate measurement data of the Mi Band, since I couldn’t connect the Mi Band 8 to Strava. Luckily, I did find a way to access the heart rate data on the Mi Band 8 at a 5-minute resolution, which is enough to draw some general conclusions. Therefore, this will be an initial review, and a full review will follow in the future.
Now, as regular viewers of the channel will know, I typically do not list the specs of watches, since you can find those on the website of the manufacturer. However, I do want to note one thing, namely the fact that the design of the Mi Band 8 reminds me a lot of the Fitbit Luxe. I am not saying that Xiaomi directly copied this design, but I do think these devices look very similar.

I always love you work with these articles :)!
your tests fit my requirements perfectly. I've been catching up on videos for 2 weeks. thank you for such good videos. can you record something about mi watch active?
Excellent analysis. Didn't know your channel existed, now I am a subscriber.
thank you as always for the review, hope your channel growing more, your work is very much appreciated. Thank You.
Very cool data collection and insightful analyses! Looking forward to test results of Mi Band 8 pro with upgraded sensors
Hi Rob, you should definitely include those 24hour HR measurements in the next reviews! Its pretty important info and in my own testing I also noticed pretty huge differences between devices, also some don't seem to really measure continuously...
Hi Rob, thank you for your comprehensive and very reliable review. Can you also review the Mi Band 8 Pro?
Again, great review. Thanks! Can we expect something for the new Huawei Band 8 soon? Especially since they update the sleep software.
Rob, thanks for yet another really useful review.
Thank you for this early review! It would be interesting to see how the Chinese and international versions compared to each other. I've been looking at getting this watch when the international version comes out but I'm not going to buy it until I've seen your full review. I thought I subscribed to your newsletter but I haven't seen any posts yet, I want to make sure I am subscribed. I would love to get your content newsletter.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer of Mi Bands has changed . It started with Mi Band 7 Pro. All prior models included Mi Band 7 has been produced by Huami (Amazfit). This is the reason there’s a new charger and no support for Zepp Life. I am afraid it has nothing to do with international vs local version. Real game changer for me.
@yodanvranx809
Жыл бұрын
Are u sure there is no support for Zepp Life? Because in this case the mi band 8 is dead to me, because Mi Fitness only shows the heart data as a 30 min. aggregation (execpt for trainings), so you'll only see min/max values for a time span, and sadly this is the way it exports data to apple health. Whereas with the mi band 7 and zepp life it exports on a minute recording basis, which you'll find in apple health as 2 min. aggregates which in turn deliver a much better reading than the dense spiky graph zepp life would provide.

Who are the Mi Bands made by now? Only Xiaomi? or another brand collaborates in the manufacture of the Mi Band 7 Pro and 8? The fact that now the data is saved in Mi fitness, suggests that Xiaomi manufactures them alone ...

The Mi band 8 shoudl be compatible with Zepp life as soon as they release the global version, lets wait until then...
Would be really good to see a review for the Huawei Band 8. The price is very close to hauwei band 7 . I would just like to know if the newer band is good or not cause sometimes new things ends up being a downgrade. I would like to gift my dad the band 8 if its good. If not then i would go for the band 7
Rob, thanks for this review! Can you please make Huawei Band 8 review too?
After this disappointed result by Miband 8, you absolutely gotta test Huawei Band 8 since it's already released globally and gaining popularity right now

Yes, PLEAAAASEE!! I love my Huawei Band 8
Wow this channel is super scientific test. Great staff❤❤
Considering this is just a preliminary review, there is still room for improvement for the Mi Band 8 after its global release. My hypothesis on why the results are quite inaccurate is Xiaomi probably did not conduct that many tests with the sensors. With limited testing, this probably hindered their calibration for the sensors to properly and accurately detect a person's heart rate. Another theory of mine (although very unlikely) is that if this is the case for the inaccuracies of the device, it could be why they only released on China first, using their customers as their population of a large scale data gathering technique and when they have gathered sufficient data, only then will they release the global version with updated firmware that apply to both Chinese and International versions of the Mi Band 8. However this is only a theory and is based on my own speculation and experiences. I got the Mi Band 7 before a global version was released and it was just as inaccurate as this one but when it launched globally, it became better. I'm hoping for a follow-up review of the device once it officially releases globally.

the software on the 7 was not improved upon based on my experience. in fact the sleep tracking on the 7 became less reliable. but yes, this review was premature given the limited refinement that is expected to come by end of a year
1) Test the Muse S Gen2: 7 EEG sensors-only, no PPG, sleep tracking to be done versus clinical polysomnography to see if it beats out the unavailable Dreem 2. Disregard the Muse 2 meditation features; focus on the sleep tracking. Do a future test on those if you want. 2) Test the SleepOn Go2sleep SE: fingertip PPG device seeking HSAT/HST approval. Inquiring sleep enthusiasts want to know!
Now test with the global version? 😬😬. Amazing video btw, as always. Also, splitting the graphs by budget watches and not so budget watches could be a great idea. the mi band 8 costs 39 pounds here, comparing it with 200+ or 400+ pounds watches is a tough fight for the mi band 8. But I do appreciate that we can see which place reached the band 8 on the general graph for all watches.

it's essy. Want something cheap , that measure good, go for any recent Huawei Band, Watch Fit, Fit 2 or even older versions of watches like GT2 they are all good or very good HR trackers and quite cheap .

Good call although it looks like he kinda only cares about the stats, rather than a normal/full review of the watch which may be why he doesn't compare by price.

Hi Rob! So i'm looking into bands that would track my running pace, and also have a look of Fitbit Charge 5. So i wonder about Mi Band 8 and its accuracy on the running data.
Great video as always. I'm really looking forward to see a scientific review for the huawei band 8 when it becomes available everywhere.

@@simdencard Yup. Huawei Bands tend to have decent heart tracking. Considering most budget options don't have many good trackers, at least having a reliable heart tracker is enough. Hopefully the newest model doesn't screw up.
global version is out now. Can't wait for your review!
Another great review, I had hope for this device. However, as the testing of this device proves , it becomes evident that its sensors are disappointingly inaccurate. Keep up the great reviews. Greetings from 🇮🇪

Please don't buy that model. As a previous Mi Band 5 user, I'm not satisfied with Mi Band 8. It has a lot of bugs. Just screen size and 60 Hz is evident.
Hi Rob, would you be able to test out the miband 8 pro? thanks in advance!
Do you have these charts somewhere online, where you regularly update new devices? That would be super awesome.
Well, this review earned a sub. Damn, this is thorough.
if my main activities are weight lifting & cycling, which watch would you recommend to an Android user for closest correlation to Chest straps?
Have you ever tested different ecg chestband devices (especially how would a Magene H64 stack up against the Polar H10)? I'm interested in my heart rate at night (well in the morning actually) and was looking for a device to record it.. when I remembered I had a Magene H64 lying somewhere. I suppose it's decent.. all I need now is software to record it since the device itself doesn't. (or pay max 50,- on a wrist device with "continuous" heart rate measurement (at least in 5 minute intervals))
Interesting! I'd like to see an updated version of the Whoop 4.0. They've pushed loads of software updates over the past months, interested to see if they've improved.
Thank you for this preliminary review of the CN version of Mi Band 8! Although a little dissapointing due to limited data, I hope Xiaomi would give the band 8 a firmware update to further improve the sensors. Can't wait to see your review on the global version next! ⚡️🤘🏼⚡️

Could you test the "Sleep as Android" app or some other apps in comparison to your EKG device?
@TheQuantifiedScientist Hello IF by any chance you can get a mi band 8 pro for the tests, i will really want to see it. I want to buy either huawei band 8 / mi band 8 pro or fitbit charge 5 (this one second hand cuz new is too expensive for me). And I'm not decided, tho 8 pro need more info about that band. I'm not very sporty, I'm interested more on sleep tracking (that's why I'm looking at fitbit charge 5 or luxe). I'd rather wait for your review than rush to buy. And btw what are your thoughts about second hand trackers? (is worth to buy sh or better stick with new ones). Thanks for your time. Best regards!
Hi! I would really want to know more about stress tracking in different smart watches. Stress is a very common issue, so I am sure many, many people would appreciate it. Is this something you have planned?
Great work!!!
Hi Rob, please also review Huawei Band 8 as well, as this 2 brands are competing with similar price point, features and release date. Thanks
Can you do a quick update on the step counter please (preferably for the Smart Band 8 Pro)? Mine seems to be SHOCKINGLY inaccurate. There are lots of complaints online as well. Thanks!
This is the best Video i could find to the mi band really well done sir ❤
What about the activity tracker part? I upgraded to a MB7 and it's steps are totally off from by previous MB5 when doing sports. Walking appears fairly accurate.

Good morning, I discovered you relatively recently and I have seen the comparisons you have made between different brands. I'm reaching out to you because I would need your opinion regarding the Samsung Watch 5. I am an older person and my exercise is limited to walking, so the data that interests me from the smartwatch are heart rate, sleep duration and quality, possibly an electrocardiogram, blood pressure, and not much more. My question then would be if the Samsung 5 smartwatch could provide me with that data with a certain level of accuracy, and on a scale from 1 to 5, how would you rate the accuracy of that data?
Excellent! Have you already reviewed the Amazfit band?
Hello, one thing keeps brothering me out. Since this is my first Mi band, does it need a screen protector? I have taken it out of bix since it was delivered to me😢
Hi can recommend me a smart watch or smart band . Around these price ? So far I seen honor band 8 and real me watch 3. Like these 2 which is better?
Hi, will you be reviewing the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Active soon? It would be good to see a side by side comparison between it and the Huawei Band 8
Can you do Huawei band 8? It seems really really good from their advertising
Hello, will you please review a honor band 8? Thanks.
Thank you for the perfect review as always ❤, we are waiting for the review for huawei watch ultimate and 4 pro 😎
Can you do this tests with the new Huawei Band 8, please? Comparing to the Mi Band 8.
Any plans to test the Casio health tracking capabilities? E.g. the new dw-h5600
Hi. Are you going to test Huawei Watch 4 series?
Any recommendation for a budget between 75-100$?
Now Mi brand 8 pro launched, I heard a lot of progress, could you review it?
you are keep saying "access to international version". What will be different in that model compared with the CN one? Are you expecting the international version to give you access to "raw" data, with increased resolution? or that model will be able to sample more often? Is this something you noticed in previous versions of the Band (v6 or v7)?
Thank you for this, I've been looking all over for weeks now. I only found someone comparing to a Polar H10, no sleep stage comparisons. Now for the Huawei Band 8 XD

great work again ! fyi there was a big firmware upgrade, maybe it 'fixed' some things ? :) I still got the first xiaomi watch global, but looking for an upgrade
did u do the latest update ? which version did u use for this ?
Just a question, but why did you compare the design to that if the Fitbit luxe, while the Xiaomi has this design basically years before the luxe? At least since the MI band 3 while I argue that the form is still from the first one from 2016
Please do a mi band 8 vs Huawei band 8 comparison after mi band gets a global launch. I'm really confused which one to get.
Would love to see reveiw of the new huewai band 8. Will be interesting to see if the truesleep 3 update improves huaweis main flaw
Are the budget versions like the haylou solar lite any accurate?
I've watched your reviews for a long time now before buying, loved them👍🏻Can you please review the Xiaomi Band 8 Active?
Amazfit Band 7 seems popular in the cheaper segment. Can you perhaps test it out too?
Volgens mij kan je via de app 'notify for mi band' wel exporteren naar strava, die gebruikte ik een paar jaar geleden voor een oude mi band.
Hey! Good Review!! Please test the Huawie Band 8 because it have the truesense 5 maybe it’s the best smartwatch under 50$
will you review huawei band 8?
Look forward to the international version coming out so we can hopefully get some higher resolution data
Have you considered comparing the sleep tracking with the stock application compared to something more specialized like Sleep as Android? It would be really interesting to see how much (if at all) does the specialized application improve/affect the accuracy of the sleep detection.
Thank you very much for this video. I am very happy 😊
Could you test Amazfit Band 7? I think it's a better choice for the almost same price.
Rob, this is outside your normal area of reviews, but could you do a comparison on the PlatinumLED Biomax 900 vs Joovv Solo red light therapy units. I trust your analysis to be unbiased.
Nice video, when is the Huawei video coming out?
will you also have a test for mi band 8 PRO?
Hi, should we expect soon a review on the Huawei Watch 4 Pro? I'm very curious about your in depth analysis. 👨🔬
Hey Rob i am a loyal Mi Band user and when it comes to the band my priority is a good polyphasic sleep tracker with accurate sleep stages recording so keeping in mind the band 8 & band 7 is there any guarantee that the future updates on an international version of the Band 8 would guarantee an accurate sleep monitoring and better accuracy than the previous generations? My band 6 is currently damaged so I am thinking to upgrade the band and keeping the sleep accuracy in mind would you recommend me to go for Mi Band 7 or 8? As global version is available in my country where I live? Need your answer and do give me individual attention on the inbox as I use sleep centric approach

Pls do a review on the new Huawei band 8 ..need to buy a fitness watch soon xd
Why are you not tested 7 Pro or 8 Pro? I'm using Chinese version and I'm very satisfied, but interested in tests of sensors.
Why is fitbit luxe never on the sleep scoring graph with the rest of the watches?

Mi should put a disclaimer with this product that the data has nothing to do with reality.
