For someone who comes back to MHW fairly regularly, but doesn't stick around constantly, this was super useful. Judging by your description you don't think it was worth making, but I definitely appreciated it.

The perfect LBG/HBG DPS guide. Thx! It clarified and affirmed some details about pierce ticks, Elem ammo, the Slicing nerf etc. I did not have a chance to profit from the earlier broken Slicing form, but if used well Slicing is (still) quite viable IMO due to distance (critical and to the monster itself). A sidenote, Spread takes quite some skill as to proc all 7 pellets in Spread 3 requires the pellets bundle hit box and weak part hitbox to fully overlap. losing just 2 pellets to "air" is a damage reduction of 28+% for that round.

As someone who has taken a massive break from world due to technical difficulties, this video is incredibly helpful. I had been wanting to use bowgun but couldn't figure out the controls but I'm planning on starting a new file this summer and figuring things out with it. Don't be so hard on yourself man.

I'm really hoping Iceborne completely messes with the balance of various weapons, most of all bowguns. I want pierce and normal and etc to be usable again.

This video helped me a lot. I took a long hiatus from the game after the Slicing nerf because normal/pierce/spread wasn't nearly as good. I missed out on all the new stuff and meta changes, so this was very eye opening to me.

Glad you made this video since I started playing when it was released on PC so all meta sets have always been figured out for PC players

@@MattheusLondero siege mode was like rapid fire for hbg. Its only worked on certain ammos letting you fire lots or rounds very fast without reloading but you were stuck in place kinda like cluster shots in world.

Videos like this are so cool, especially since I just picked MHW back up after a hiadus and decided I wanted to try guns because this is the first time the series has had good controls for guns almost ever, but it always brings me back to my number 1 frustration about MHW. The return to timed Event content. Now I'm an OG MH player and I started on the original game on the playstation 2, the only other game to do Events this way, and while I didn't care so much back then because I was a kid with way more time on my hands, it still was never a great way to work events. Now it's even more annoying because I just don't have the time to commit week in and week out to get all the gamma sets and neat armor sets and taroth raids when they are available. All of that paired with the fact that for over a decade now I've become used to content being released and just being available from that point on, allowing me to get things done whenever I just decided to instead of according to Capcoms whims. I get that they want to try and retain an audience or whatever, but it's doing the opposite for me, and is actually a big part of why I stopped playing. FRUSTRATED!

I'd really like your opinion on the new dodge reload mod coming in Iceborne. Seems like it won't be all that great if the mod levels are 1/2/3 ammo respectively. Recoil/Reload/CloseRange mods are so important for pretty much every weapon that it would be hard to justify giving them up, unless maybe there's a spread 3 out there that has a base recoil of +2 or better? IDK :

I really hope that they'll buff the distance on Normal 3 ammo. It's just downright awful right now if you ask me. You can't even BUY the damn Lv3 Ammo, you gotta buy the material for it and craft it yourself which is just an annoyance for no good reason at all. Buff Normal 3, buff Paralysis in general a little bit (Because it's quite honestly awful compared to previous games even though it was completely fine in previous games) and buff Poison. After that, probably address how lackluster Pierce ammo is in this game by buffing it a little, too. Heavy Bowgun should feel like a Sniper rifle for the most part while Light Bowgun should feel like a Close-Mid distance option... but really it doesn't feel that way at all right now unfortunately. Heavy Bowgun is far too shafted into close to mid distance because the damage drop off from distance is just ludicrous. You take a perfectly viable 70-100 damage hit on an OP Lvl3 Normal gun build and reduce it down to 1-5 damage because it travelled 0.5 seconds too long... really? If they change these things and maybe also buff Wyvernsnipe to have more consistent shots that don't randomly disappear in the ground because of a small bump I would be very happy with HBG. Just in the state it's right now I'd much rather spam Sticky ammo and Wyvernsnipe with a full Artillery build on HBG than actually consider using normal ammo like Pierce or Normal shots. That's what my LBG does since triple shot Lv2 ammo feels more like an actual shooter build than a Lv3 Normal shot HBG.

As someone that only started playing a few months ago and never experienced the base game progression, this was really interesting to watch. Hard to imagine having only 3 mod slots compared to the 5 that I'm so used to with HBGs.

I fall back on sticky 2 for ko's so i use artillery charm i get my free elm lvl 3 from kirin chest and arms both gamma if I don't need level 3 it will open up more options

a question about elemental, but if it really is 27 MV, even if you only got one-third the multipliers from two other hitzones besides the head, wouldn't that still be 8 raw + 45 elemental = 53, or comparable to spread 3 (and if the multipliers are closer to one-half that of the head, then the elemental component alone would be 54)? i imagine the answer is more in the elemental damage caps, but could you provide a comparison of the damages of spread and elemental after armor skills?

I really hope we see the viability of more ammo types builds in Iceborne. I know they'll always be a dominant set/ammo but just to up the lesser used (and frankly, iconic) elemental shots up to decent usability will be pretty refreshing. And as notorious as it is due to the start of MHW i really miss slicing, I know you can make it work but it's certainly a far cry off of optimal and the ammo limit is very oppressive.

U need minds eyes with range mods and then stand at the optimum position to deal highest dmg it can do. It works.. but not practical.

AT Xeno & AT Kulve Taroth when they come back around. Or if you're on PC, mods that let you make the new bowguns from AT Kulve/buy AT Xeno tickets to make Xeno Gamma.

Slicing still has one spot in the meta: KT horn breaking. It's only one spot, but it's a pretty important one if you enjoy gunning enough to use it for every fight. I would argue it's one of the best options to bring to KT A4 because of its extremely high damage uptime. Melee weapons are stuck goofing around for mounts or sneaking around for stray uppercuts to KT's chin. HBG can't use slicing well, but lbg has styx and kjarr decay as it's top slicing options.

Check out the build TeamDarkSide made, it's capable of mowing down a decent number of monsters within a single wyvernheart.

All I want are my Seregios weapons...

a good buff for pierce ammo would be 1 remove the cap and 2 make it so when fired if the first hits a weakness every tick counts as hitting a weakpoint even if they dont

I feel like if I missed out on AT Xeno (for the armor) and Kulve (for the rng guns), I just shouldn't touch these classes until those events come back around if I want to be effective compared to other classes. Is this really the case or can the old stuff still do work?

he's only talking about META, he said that already the class is just as effective as every other weapon, but its just a fact that if you play META then there are defining Bowguns that just make the other weapons feel significantly less useful. You can still kill most monsters in less than 15 minutes if you know what your doing without these META weapons, but it just doesn't feel as powerful as killing them in like say 5-8 minutes on casual runs.

Why in the world do you think of this as 'filler' content? This is perfectly valid with all the information and insight it lends, I love it.

Got back to mhw few weeks ago and saw alot people spam slices :D left me wonder did it get back go meta or people looked for outdated builds

Damn I used to abuse the shit out of pierce thinking I was doing great damage. But I was noticing pierce was doing less and less damage the bigger the monster, thanks for clearing that up for me. I’m going to try and go for a spread build next, are their any specific bowguns people would recommend for spread ammo.

Meta be like, "get xeno gear, cluster, win."

Elemental LBG may be a meme but its still one of the safest ways to kill an Arch-Tempered monster.

Ice elemental LBG is my go-to for the diablos family. For either temp diablos, I get very safe kills in sub 4mins as long as bagel doesn't show up.

So KT's is basically lootbox platform for newly added weapons

Sticky was an good off meta, and could easily chain knockdowns

Still think that elemental ammo is kinda ok for Bazel and Radobaan though. Support need to play in close range to use the mod bonus, those two are something that you don't want to get close at all. It's just not the fastest for damage if you play perfectly.

i really enjoy these videos of yours, although i dont speedrun, i did end up using some of these buiilds coincidentally.

I'm assuming the doom guy character model is just an asset change in your game files?

Unlikely There are several events that give special armors like making your character look like alloy from horizon zero dawn. Or making your calico look like a pixelated megaman. I'm not up to date on whether or not there was a doom crossover tbh though.

I’ve never used bow guns in any Mh game since freedom 2. I started using them in MHW around 6 months ago and I’m having a blast. I prefer light bowguns but haven’t figured out a great build for lgbs

from a design standpoint I can only assume they got tired of the siege pierce HBG metagame, people cheesed the fuck out of apex rajang in 4U with that and mindlessly farmed top tier relics and HR very often barely learning how to use HBG itself. Siege mode gone, pierce nerfed, and spread buffed as the new meta to encourage a more aggressive, engaging playstyle. I guess we can't have nice things

The biggest issue is the bowguns themselves having bad support for the ammo types honestly. While yes, Normal/Pierce do get out damaged by spread they are extremely easy and safe to use with much longer range. It's a fair trade off honestly. And the damage on them really isn't that bad anymore now that we have proper weapons to support them (thanks Kulve Tarroth). Just don't be dumb and use pierce vs something like Kulu-Ya-Ku.

It's a damage modifier on weapons. The damage calculation in MHW is really complicated. If you're interrested in how it works, search for MHworld The highest damage number of all time. It's a video by Team Darkside that explains how they reached 6471 damage in a single hit with a greatsword. It explains everything there is to know about damage calculation in depth :)

Generally, motion value * weapon attack = damage. There's a lot more to it than that, though.

Pierce is way better with Ballistics, but even then, yeah,sad.

Slicing ammo never nerfed , it just got lost somewhere in the Item box .

Styx is good support and can still deal dmg. For hbg.. zorah magdaros with sticky or cluster if u know wat u doing.

And here I was cursing my luck because I got Taroth Blitz Support instead of Taroth Blitz Shot. Now I´m actually excited to build around it as a DPS weapon because I don´t view it as a gimmick anymore.

I've got both. Support definitely beats Shot due to the large clipsize, better recoil and reload speed on Normal 2 giving you significant uptime to output damage

Does critical distance works differently in world? In previous series, an ammo deal 150% damage when it's on crit distance and slicing ammo don't have critical distance So a Slicing S with 6x5 mv would be equal to Spread S with 4x5 mv but hitting at crit distance

I would probably rate LBG Styx, Kjarr LBG Thunder on S Rank, and Lightning Blitz III on A Rank vs ATKT. Otherwise, an excellent video detailing the history of HBG and LBG. :)

This is the single best bowgun video for MHW right now.

HBG Empress styx for me. most versatile HBG imo. slow reload, but if you can optimize the jump attack reload, that is a non issue. long pierce magazine, safe distance fight. decent slice magazine. have cluster and sleep. i dunno what you want more from a HBG. not the best damage, but most consistence one imo. i always do most of the damage in most of my online hunt between other players. unless thre are god long sword or GS in the party

New player here. Ive played this game a lot back in the psp day but now with multiplayer Im wondering is there an actual meta? Is it like in MMO where you will be kicked for not having a proper build or is it more like whatever you want as long as ur doing damage?

It's good to hear that my LBG of choice, Taroth Blitz Support, is concidered a good weapon. What do you think of using Focus on a more Wyvernblast focused build? That 15% can matter a lot when there's a 3 minute cooldown from all 3 mines

my diablos kill setup is sleep cluster 2 into 1 then spam pierce 3 and 2 and 1 if no strong window usually get diablos killed by 2-3 minute top

Nice vid on a little meta history. However, I just hate glutton bc it’s the only weapon that makes hbg good so if you want to use hbg, either you have glutton and your op or you are just hitting under par. It’s sad that the top tier meta is made up of a single weapon that’s a random drop and aerial gs that’s cheesy as all hell. IMO, Bow is the meta weapon that actually takes skill instead of a rng dropped hbg or a ledge hopping cheese. However this is all just one man’s humble opinion so play how you want and just have fun❤️
