If you're curious why Snake is geeking out so much over that pistol, just remember that the custom gun market was just getting started in 1964, and a 1911 with that many mods would cost well north of $3,000. In '64, that was a hell of a lot of money for one little gun.

Along with the Mk.22 Hush Puppy, I bring a shotgun to quickly dispatch enemy patrol when spotted and an SVD to take out guards from afar if I can't aim with my Mk.22. I would use the Mosin Nagant over the SVD as the Mosin is non-lethal and the SVD isn't. Unfortunately, I was a fool and couldn't look for the Mosin Nagant after vaping on a plant boomer so hard, he died. This is why you consult a walkthrough, folks.

Detail about the Patriot: You can kinda see in the cutscenes with it that the bullets don't go straight, they kinda tumble out of it. This is most likely due to the barrel being so short that the bullets dont have time to achieve spin. The wounds would certainly be mortal.

@@dicktracey7771 It's literally explained in game that that's how that works. And you can actually see that happening. Moreover it kind makes sense, at that barrel length, 5.56 wouldn't get alot of spin in the bore without adjusting the rifling. The reason the wounds would be much graver is because the bullet wouldn't go through and through, and instead would enter at an off angle and cause alot of internal damage, similar to how a hollow point works, but without much deformation. FYI I'm currently studying gunsmithing as a career path.

@@dicktracey7771 That's what happens with a short barrel. the Bullets will tumble like that for a short while until they ''stabilize''. I'm pretty sure the AK-74 has that problem.

Nah, it won't be so interesting. If people would talk about new gun each time, it would be good. But, meh. Only thing Ocelot menthons, at least in Phantom Pain, is cardboard box

The thumb safety is extended to make it easier on the finger. A long-type trigger with non-slip grooves. A ring hammer... The base of the trigger guard's been filed down for a higher grip. And not only that, nearly every part of this gun has been expertly crafted and customized. Where'd you get something like this?

A bit refreshing being older and a gun owner to appreciate this game in a new light. Like that light trigger pull on that 1911A1. He wasn't kidding about it being made for professionals. The original 5.5 to 6.5 pound trigger pull is more for Joe Average (like me) to prevent accidental firing. It could make each shot easier to prevent a left of the center issue when firing. (Or right of center if firing left handed.) Something that Snake would have accounted for ages ago in his training.

That almost sounds like TheRussianBadger’s Battlefield Bad company 2 with that exploit that if you fire a shotgun and quickly change and change back literally 1 second and repeat this you will be able to skip the pump animation and increased fire rate

I've got one: The SAA mentioned can not only be used to spin around your hand (try it in the fight against Ocelot), but you can also learn a thing about how Ocelot uses his. Hint hint. A joke tip: Don't play like DSP. This is a sneaking mission. A bad (but insanely useful) tip: Save scumming works wonders. A good tip: Dying to The Sorrow early isn't bad, it helps you get through faster and doesn't affect your stats. Now some actual tips on playing the game *well*: 1) Definitely utilize a lot of the items you have to the best of their ability. As Sigint said, a cardboard box works well indoors; but don't use it in the jungle. They'll see it and check it out. 2) Batteries are extremely limited so avoid draining them if you can. Eating a Russian Glowcap will recharge your battery, but will not replace them. They do rot so keep that in mind. 3) Thermal Goggles are one of the best items you can use. They detect footprints left behind, body heat from enemies, and even traps. Again, don't be stupid with them and ruin your only good eye left and look directly into bright light or something. 4) Silence your weapons whenever you can. Don't be stingy because "what if". Once more, this is a sneaking mission. Most of everything you come across can be bypassed using stealth. 5) Stalking enemies (using the D-Pad to walk instead of the L-Stick), or doing more stealthy movements like crawling, uses a lot of stamina, so be careful with overusing it or eat often. Being 1/2 hunger makes your stomach growl. On the note of food, food rotting fastest to slowest is in this order: Fish, animal meat, and human made like Ramen, Rations, Calorie Mate (which is really fucking good, try it sometime). 6) Know the effective range of your weapons. For real. Don't try to go and snipe someone 100 meters away with a pistol and expect a headshot. On this note though, there's a neat little "feature" where you can do just that. If you equip your binoculars and line up the crosshairs with whatever you're trying to hit, quick unequip (tapping the item button), quick equipping your weapon and aiming down the sights in an extremely fast motion, your gun will be aimed exactly where your binoculars were allowing for 100+ meter headshots with pistols. Not very practical where there's numerous enemies, but a single target is good, especially when low on ammo. 7) Speaking of ammo, destroying ammo warehouses and food warehouses will make enemies within the nearby surrounding areas be really low on supply for ammo and food respectively. They'll have 1 clip for their current gun before switching out to their pistols, and will eat any food they see. 8) I'm sure you're using the camo index properly, and are constantly changing uniforms and such to match your surroundings, but don't forget that pressing up against things also helps increase your index. Certain camos state this as they have a special effect, like tree bark, as they're more effective against trees, but pressing up against walls helps in general; those special camos just help in those situations MORE. 9) Always be sure to have food captured in your cages, and try to use those as your second to last resort. Your last resort should be anything manmade as that doesn't spoil and will always refill your stamina to max, regardless if Snake's terrible tastes don't like Soviet MRE's.

Not to mentilon, in very first MGS, on PS1 it was yelling at enemy gunfire: "I'M FUCKING INVINCIBLE"

It really does feel like they got a gun guy over at konomi working with Kojima, how else could they have all of these conversations in the game. But damn if I'd be lying if I didn't say it was interesting to watch Big Boss talk with Sigint about this stuff all day during a mission.

They got a Japanese gun nut that I suspect didn't speak a lot of English. Is that an insult, hell no. They got a lot of stuff right but there are bits missing or are incorrect. Now I would think that a bit of it was left out because gameplay. Like the M37 Ithaca is one of the few pump action shotguns with no disconnect between the trigger and action. Meaning you can slam fire, pumping the action with the trigger depressed will fire on each closing. Skilled shooters can fire that thing like it's full auto. I get that it isn't mentioned because the gun doesn't behave that way. But things like German snipers taking P/U Mosin Nagants, over their scoped 8mm rifles... Not crapping on the Mosin Nagant, they can be excellent rifles. The AR-15 also had a much more detailed history. With its predecessor, the AR-10 in 7.62x51mm, getting adopted by the Portuguese in the 1950s. The civilian production AR-15 versions were probably the first used in South East Asia by black ops prior to official U.S.involvement. Long before the Stoner 63 was being field tested. Mostly because the guy that designed the Stoner, was the guy that designed the AR-10 and the AR-15. And he probably was working on getting the 63 into military hands at the time. Snake should have recognised it just a bit more, maybe even mislabeling it as an AR-15. I will give props for the EZ gun and it's ammo. As the Soviets had ammo just like that for assassination. Minus the tranquilizer.

This game takes place in 1963, the AKM replaced the AK-47 in 1959. Looking at the model, I can see distinctive ridges on the dust cover, which only the AKM had, but the barrel is that of an AK-47. Conclusion, the AK model in this game is modeled incorrectly. Also, the 'stun grenade' wasn't created until around the late 1970s, so Kojima really stretched it with that one.

Given that service rifles are not replaced immediately as a new rifle is introduced, it's entirely plausible that an AK-47 had simply been modified with new parts. And like it's been pointed out, the setting for this game is literally a weapons research facility, so the idea that they had stun grenades isn't that far-fetched. After all, it wasn't a question of technological advances holding back its invention, just the idea of creating it (besides, SIGINT tells you he'd heard of some SAS prototypes but is bewildered by the concept, so Kojima is spot-on).

Wait so ocelots single action army’s use black powder cartridges that’s kinda strange since black powder gives no advantage what so ever if anything it’s worse since shooting it makes a smoke cloud large enough to distort your vision plus smokeless powder is about three times stronger than black powder.

I love that Sigint doesn't bother to question the logic behind The Patriot's unlimited ammo, he just accepts it as something Snake came up with but works.
