best realistic way, if you and your friends are in the ocean and a shark appears and it bites onto your leg and drags you instead of your friends, cause if ya have an object in your hand or just your fist, ya can drive your fist through it's eye multiple times quoting Gray Fox

And keep in the fact of how much Naomi LOVED Frank/Fox. If the Codec call and ALL of the conversation with her didn't happen, this scene wouldn't have as much of an impact. When Naomi describes ger brother and how "you left him a cripple" it digs in how much she loved Frankie and the means she was willing to go for him. And in the end, Snake never told Naomi he did. But that he loved her.

It's one of the major things I don't like about Twin Snakes. He doesn't just sound tormented, he sounds almost inhuman... which he kind of isn't. Stranger yet, the original voice actor returned to voice Vulcan Raven so they had him on hand. Someone at Twin Snakes just didn't like the voice apparently.

Yesterday I've reached this part of the game, and whole shit, this scene caught me off guard, MGS always had great story, moments, and voice acting, but even so, I never expected that the very first game, on a PS1 would have such a great voice acting, this scene has so many emotions that it sent shivers down my spine every single time that I had to watch it again because I died, it feels like they actually killed a close friend of David hayter right in front of his eyes while recording

Which destroys the notion made by Liquid that Solid was a killer. If that were true, he would have shot the stinger. But it goes to show how much of a hero good guy Fox was. He was willing to die to protect the world. He wanted to die by Snakes hand, in a more honorable warrior way. But when it came down to it, he died saving the world. An actual hero.

Its an interesting part of the game. Snake is a very deep and complicated character in MGS1 and the silent but complicated protagonist is a motif that has been continued ever since MGS1, and imo is what sets MGS apart from generic action games such as Just Cause. Yes, the hero is that generic action protagonist, but he is secretly a dynamic, rather than a static, character. At the start of MGS1, Snake is a cold killer. He expresses no remorse or convictions to any particular set of beliefs, and his reasons for fighting that he gives are money and the feeling of being alive. He finds it normal how he killed both Big Boss and Grey Fox, and until a certain part in the story, would do it again if they found themselves on opposite sides. But this changes throughout the game. Snake's encounters with the members of Foxhound, their motivations, their goals, and their demise, influence Snake to make something more out of his abilities, and at times even shame him. Another major part of it is Meryl and Otacon. Snake clearly cares for Meryl to the point he puts himself through arduous amounts of torture to save her life, as well as saving her from Psycho Mantis. But by far the biggest cause for the change in Snake is Grey Fox. Grey Fox is not like Snake. While they are friends, Grey Fox fights for something he believes in(he died in Zanzibar supporting Big Boss because he believed the only purpose he would find was in battle), while Snake fights for himself(both in the idea of fighting for money as well as fighting for the thrill of "being alive). Grey Fox's revival itself is not enough to stir Snake over the edge, but Snake's reflection on the events of Zanzibar Land, spurred by his new emotional connections to people like Hal and Meryl, lead to him developing feelings of regret. This is further compounded by how the members of FOXHOUND greet him with varrying levels of respect or condemnation, but always serving as an idea of what Snake could be; Raven fights for religious reasons, he finds combat is a true expression of humanity, Psycho Mantis fights for mass murder, only caring to eliminate as many people as he can, but compares himself to Snake multiple times and even describes him as worse. Sniper Wolf is the final one, who fights out of revenge against a world that left her to die. Sniper Wolf's death is perhaps the most impactful on Snake, as it comes during a turning point when he is now developing regret over his actions and relationships, and finally meets someone who died fighting for something they believed in. By the time Grey Fox comes in during the Metal Gear fight, Snake is deeply in doubt and confused about himself. However, seeing Grey Fox, someone who was once his close friend, sacrifice himself for something he believed in (saving the world from the plans of Liquid Snake), showed Snake that he doesnt have to just fight for himself, but that he can apply his skill and ability for a purpose other than self-serving. Imo, its why snake is a dramatically better and more likeable character by MGS2. He is far more social, motivated, and noble than the gun-for-hire in MGS1. TLDR: Snake in MGS1 is a very interesting and deep character, and the Stinger/Gray Fox sequence reflects on how Snake has changed since the events of Metal Gear 2 in his motivations and morals. Snake no longer can kill his friend as he now understands the concept of fighting for something he believes in, and the appreciation for others and regret of his past that he develops in MGS1 stops him from being able to destroy Gray Fox, even if it means completing the mission (even though in MG2 he had no qualms about the same thing).

Legit all of these years later and this game is still extremely enjoyable just from these cinematic cutscenes alongside the amazing talent behind the voice acting alone. It's crazy to think about how hardly any other game was doing what Kojima was doing with MGS1. This is really when games began transcending the barriers of just gameplay and started to become/considered pieces of art. LOVE this series man.

How exactly could you tell someone that? To tell them your brother, the person who raised you and kept you safe despite not being blood related, was the one that killed your parents? That would have destroyed naomi mentally and inevitably lead her to possibly committing suicide. Snake couldn't hurt her anymore then what she's suffered.
